I visited the Gillnetter awhile ago and just didn't like the food. Fortunately, I gave it a second chance and the food actually turned out to be not just good but actually pretty great.
The view is amazing and I would say that this place has one of the best patios in Vancouver. Unfortunately, the service was kind of poor - again, I think it was just a bad night.
I'd give it a second shot - try the seafood pasta it was really good! Also, the patio over looks the Fraser river - it is a great view on a summer evening.
I've been here once after I heard about it from friends:
Pros: View is great - fun on the inside - I bet this place would be great during Christmas or Halloween - good party feel.
Unfortunately, the food was a bit bland and they served spinach dip with stale chips. Maybe it was a bad day and I'd give it another try. I had the ribs which tasted like they were a bit old and just had a whole bunch of bbq sauce on them - It wasn't as bad as I make it sound, i'd try it again.
Staff was warm and friendly though. Great beer selection on tap.
I eat lunch often at the Gillnetter Pub. I also watch sports afterwork. The food is higher end pub fare. Nobody is perfect but the food is consistantly good.
The service is a big thing at the Giilnetter. The entire staff is second to none. Professional service in a casual way which is fun to be around.
I find the food and drinks to be fairly price and the daily food specials are always well priced.
The ambiance is the best, possibly anywhere. Between the view of the river and the great service it's no reason we do not bother with other pubs in Port Coquitlam.
The Gillnetter Pub is an old favorite for many Poco locals and I definitely encourage everyone to check it out. The food is excellent; they have a seafood clubhouse that is loaded with fresh shrimp and real crab - a must try for seafood lovers! Appy's are 2 for 1 Mon-Fri from 3pm to 6pm and various daily specials. Sundays are for their famous brunch - breakfast items (the BEST eggs benny) including omeletts made to suit and fresh fruit and pastries for dessert (it's only $9.95 and all-you-can-eat). Did I mention the ambiance? Breathtaking; on a sunny day, sit outside on the patio with a view of the river or inside is old school marine memorabilia with a comfortable feel. The servers are really good for the most part, I've only had one occasion where the girl didn't get around for more drink orders often enough, but that happens at any restaurant. Oh, and the desserts! If you can save enough room or split with someone, pretty fancy for a pub and soooo good!
I frequently go to the gillnetter for brunch on sundays which is pretty damn good, and caesars are on special. Music trivia on wednesdays can be fun and the food is usually pretty good for a pub. My only complaint is that prices can be a bit high for a pub.
