Dinakis Mediterranean Grill offers bold tasting Mediterranean cuisine prepared with the highest quality ingredients.
I was there with family friends tonight and saw the manager/owner of Dinaki's tell my friend who's blind that his guide dog must wait outside. After my friend offered to show legislation and Guide Dog certificate, the manager still refused, and went into the back several times to "check". When the manager finally came back, he denied ever saying that the guide dog must stay outside, while customers at other tables confronted the manager/owner, confirming that he did in fact say that the guide dog must stay out. He mentioned that the reason for the misunderstanding was that he didn't want to disturb other customers with the guide dog. To that, other customers told the manager/owner that they had no problem with the guide dog, and the only problem they were having was with his attitude. He then tried to make excuses and come up with examples, which made no logical sense to anyone listening. He also tried to blame the waitresses for the whole incident, saying they were uneducated and denying that he himself was uneducated as to the law requiring accommodation for guide dogs. Do not eat here, Dinaki's discriminates against people with disabilities.
Ambiance is decent. We found the service to be okay, nothing exceptional but it was okay. The server didn't do anything other than what would be expected. No small talk, no refill of the water and the food was just kind of plopped on the table when it came. Wine prices are very good. We had a bottle of pinot grigio and it was $20.00. The calamari we shared was good. It was hot and a decent size serving. For our entrees my husband had the barbecue spareribs and I had New York strip loin. The meat on the entrees were very good and a decent size serving. The steak was $20.95 and for the price it was beautifully cooked and well seasoned. Unfortunately the side dishes were abysmal. The Caesar salad was wilted and not cold like a salad should be. It was almost like it sat around at room temperature all day. The garlic mashed potatoes had a strange yellow colour and were not nice and fluffy like mashed potatoes should be.
All in all it was a decent restaurant but there many better Greek and Mediterranean restaurants around. It's unlikely that we would return.
I was prepared to be "wowed" based on the reviews here. I guess the mediocre gets raves in the burbs as long as there are no glaring flaws.
We walked in to find the room only 1/3 full on a Saturday night. Not great ambiance there. The room itself is decorated fine, it's just that you have to remember it's in a strip mall. They have done nothing with the room that would make you think it's anywhere else but a strip mall. Just a big open room.
The waitress was OVER the TOP. She would not leave us alone to the point of my partner getting almost mad at her. Every 2 minutes she wanted us to order. When we ordered out first drink she wanted to know if we wanted appetizers or were just going to order dinner right then. We'd been there less than 5 minutes. This went on over and over.
We ordered the red pepper and feta dip. Neither of us was very fond of it. It had a weird texture because the dip was smooth and then had chunks of red pepper and feta in it. Very little flavour. Not what we expected. We ate more bread than dip and when we asked for an extra piece of bread we were charged $1.50! I have NEVER been charged extra for bread in a Greek Restaurant. The bread itself was good.
My partner like his entree. I had a souvlaki and found it average and a little overpriced. The potatoes were not the usualy nice greek potatoes just plain with the skin on and the rice had pieces of veggies in it, again not to my liking. The tzatziki portion while miniscule, was good and the greek salad very good. WIne selections by the glass were slightly high for a suburban strip mall restaurant but portions good at least.
Dessert was premade factory offerings, not homemade. I would never order dessert in a reastaurant unless it was made there. If it's not important enough for them to make it, it's not important enough for me to spend my money on. Plus by that time it was 8:30 in the burbs and there was no one left in the restaurant, just someones sweeping up, like "get out". Then the waitress pulled the biggest faux pas in my books and asked us to pay the bill because it was her quitting time.
All in all other than the obnoxious waitress, very little about this place was memorable and I would probably not return. Pallas Athena does the whole strip mall greek thing much better.
I don't get the meh reviews here. I think this place is awesome!...They use higher quality ingredients than most Greek places, keep the prices in check by making the portions sightly smaller, a winner formula. Their Roast shoulder is fantastic as well as the calamari. Don't get me wrong, you will not leave here hungry....it's just that you probably won't have a doggy bag like a lot of places. Ambiance and decor are nice clean and modern but it is in PoCo after all. Good service, family run, would recommend with no hesitation.
Come here quite often with family and friends. The best Greek restaurant in BC!!! Food is excellent (especially the roast lamb, amazing!), they allow for substitutions without any fuss, the service is excellent and the portion sizes are very generous. Highly recommended!
the Spanakopita dinner which was a really tasty meal, and also a good option for anyone who's Vegetarian. My friend got the Tiger Prawns and he said they were also delicious.Service was very good, waitresses were always ready to top up your water, and the food came relatively quickly. An all around good experience
ate at this new place last night. We were greeted very warmly at the door and seated right away. Comfy booth seating around the restaurant that they seem to fill up first with tables in the middle. Dark wood floors and very clean with a lovely bar area and metal ceiling accent. Value for the price is very good and the service is friendly and not pushy. They have lots of different food options. Seafood souvalaki read very well, but I decided to have the steak and lasagna (with most of the lasagna going home with me). Great choice! It was served at the right degree with a nice amount of caesar salad and garlic bread well presented all together on large square plates. The lasagna could have been a little warmer as by the time I got to it after enjoying the salad and bread, the cheese was no longer melted, but this was fine. The lasagna flavour is excellent with a lovely meaty sauce and spinach. My friend had the chicken marsala which he really enjoyed as well. His drink was refilled without having to ask so we appreciated the level of attention that we received. The desserts read really well on the menu, but we were too full so will try them next time. Will definately be back especially because of the quality of food for the price as our total came to only $40 and they also provide delivery and take out which is wonderful.
Everything about this place was "just OK". Food - edible but not memorable at all. Service - OK - nothing out of the ordinary. Value / Ambiance - neither good nor bad, just OK. The only weird part was that they put a creamy ranch style dressing on the Greek salad. I wasn't a fan, and would order balsamic / olive oil if I go back - although not planning on it right now. Life's too short to eat just average food. Kind of what you'd expect from a Greek food court place, just served on nicer plates.
Wife and I had dinner here cause she is Greek and it is her name.
What a super surprise very modern not typical Greek ble and white no vines nice decore.
Food was spectacular and portions were very large I can eat but left stuffed.
Taste was to die for I had the Seafood Slovakia 2 skewers of prawns salmon and halibut and large pieces.
The food was on the table in short order which included the 2 skewers Greek salad 2 Potatos rice pilaf pita and Tzatzika all this for $17 I would definetly recomend and will be going back myself lots
We decided to go out for Greek food the other day and we found this nice restaurant. I started with calamari which was tender and had a very nice tzatziki dip. This made me feel good about coming here for dinner. I chose the roast lamb to have for my entree. It was very good. The lamb was perfectly spiced and came off the bone with my fork. I was very happy. My friend had the moussaka which he said was very authentic.
The service was good. They weren't always hovering around but were there quickly when our meals were done.
I don't normally go out of my way to write a review of restaurants, but this place hit a high note with me.
The food selection leaves your mouth watering for every item they carry, and when you finally do decide upon a meal, you are left with nothing but satisfaction.
The food leaves you wanting to finish the HEAPING servings of everything, because it is just SO delicious.
The service was pretty solid, but the food will be what keeps me coming back for more.
I was looking for Greek and something more, we found it. I had the roast lamb, it was excellent, much better than any other place in the area. My wife had the Chorizo Sausage Penne which was very tasty.
They have a great menu with many different items to choose from. Good service & a great looking place. I will return.
Dinakis is a welcome addition to Port Coquitlam, nice decor, great food, excellent service and a good value for the money.
I had a ribeye steak which was done to perfection and my Lady had a calamari dish that she yummed about several times. Service was prompt and we did not need to call for anyone but at the same time it was not annoying or over the top. There is a menu available on line for those who would like to look it up.
The decor is quite modern but still gives a cozy atmosphere. We'll be back again and again.
We took some friends here for dinner. The ambiance is more current than the traditional Blue/ white& vines greek decor, which i appreciated. It doesn't look like a strip mall restaurant from inside. The food is great. There were 4 of us and we each tried something different and loved it. Our friends ( foodies) even said it was some of the best Greek they have ever had! We had calamari plate, Roasted lamb (which was so tasty we all wished we'd ordered) seafood plater, and Moussaka. We were all happy and full. The service was prompt and friendly. No waiting to order drinks or food which was nice (even though they had a large party) we didn't feel like a second class table. We will go again!
A great place, if you love Greek and Mediterranean flavours. The calamari keeps me coming back--its absolutely the best in the tri-citoes! The service was outstanding and the Chef, Hostess and the family are fantastic people who want to keep their customers coming back. Kudos!
Dinakis is a great restaurant, with lots of selection in their menu. We've been a handful of times and each time their service has been impeccable. I recommend this restaurant to everyone!
The only flaw that I've seen is their Caesar salad once, and they made it to 'soupy'. The romaine lettuce was drowning. They were kind enough to try again and made an adjustment to our bill in the end.
