We are so lucky in this area to have a number of really good Indian restaurants (my favourite are the Aroma, the Bombay and the GM in Maple Ridge).
I have to disagree with the person who said the food tastes like it comes from a jar--it is homemade, as anyone in the restaurant can tell when they catch a glimpse of the cooks and the kitchen!
The owner is a very genial and generous man who often adds little extras to your meal.
We decided to try something new one night for dinner. Aroma was a fairly new restaurant and we hadn't really had Indian cuisine before so we decided to expand our pallets. Well, unfortunately it was very disappointing. We ordered tandoori chicken, butter chicken and naan. There was barely any meat at all and the sauce was much too runny. The tandoori was overcooked and the naan was oily. Fortunately, the restaurant did not last long and it did not sway me from experiencing Indian food elsewhere.
I've been coming to this restaurant with my Dad for years. I'm vegetarian so I tend to go with the Shahee Paneer (with rice and naan). This is a family based restaurant and I find the restaurant very homie. The washrooms are a little gross, so if you can't stand that, do take out. I love the service and the food! I have noticed over the years that the prices stayed the same but the portions are smaller.
Overall, this has to be one of my favorite Indian Restaurants besides the Bombay.
Having worked at a biz very close to Aroma I have eaten there often. The owner, CM and family work long hard hours to prepare all food from scratch...the result is great food, made to accommodate your tastes as requested, spicy or not or with any other adjustment you might request. The exterior might not be flashy but the food and friendly atmosphere explain why so many PoCo people and others have become regulars. If there is a lapse in the sevice then just consider how energetic you would be after working 12 hrs day/ 7 days wk
I had to write this review because I saw what the other guy(review) wrote, We also had takeout, The restaurant isn't a beuty from the outside but inside was pretty nice, nicley decorated candles and colorful.(unlike most indian restaurants). Anyways the food was good, had the chicken korma, and a chicken madras, the garlic nan and the chutney's and dips with it. The food was very good, was pretty spicy, but was one of the better indian restaurants in the area if not the best. No indian restaurant in in the burbs can beat the GM restarant in maple ridge. Aroma's food was not out of a can. As a ticketed chef I know!!...Definatley worth it!
Well, looks like Aroma is gone and my review wasn't far off. If the food was so tremendous, as the "ticketed" chef says, then I wonder why they are out of business?
I have had some good indian food and been at a restaurant where the sauces are made from scratch. The food was not up to any level of decent quality. In fact just to make sure my orignal review was fair, I even wasted my money to try them again after the "ticketed" chef's review. Let's just say that I love Lamb Rogan Josh, they didn't have a clue -- besides being completely overwhelming with salt -- it tasted thoroughly burnt.
this one won't be missed!
I wonder what kinda ticket that "ticketed" chef really has, perhaps a speeding ticket as he drove away from his failing restaurant?
