why did I go back?

Mrs. C and I were in the nearby Costco, and decided to go to Applebees for the "all you can eat riblets" instead of getting something from the Costco food court. Big mistake.

Applebees used to be one of my go-to places about 10 years ago but it just keeps getting worse. The restaurant was not very clean and ambiance was a sort of decrepit old sports bar theme. Service was atrocious, but I expected that after my last visit. As for value, we were having the AYCE riblets, and they were cheap at 10 bucks. My piña colada was another story. Even though the riblets were cheap, Mrs. C and I agreed we would not order them again. They were dry, slightly burnt, and had no flavor. Also, when I asked for a top-up of riblets in hopes of getting something that was juicier, we only got another two little burnt pieces with fries. The meat/fries ratio was also wrong: I came for AYCE riblets not AYCE fries. I will say the fries were okay, and my beloved dining companion liked the coleslaw. Unfortunately you can't get coleslaw refills on AYCE. What's up with that?

Overall a dreadful experience. I would have given lower ratings all around, but I really feel I have only myself to blame for going there again...

Can't recommend.

I remembered a few years ago when Applebees used to be our restaurant of choice when we went out to eat as a family. Friend service, decent food and good value. But the last two visits had changed our views of Applebees and we won't be going back there again.

We went there sometime last year and my husband ordered one of their new sandwiches, I believe it was beef with antipasto (or some kind of salsa or something) on sourdough bun. It came and the buns were soaked through after my husband took the first bite, so we asked our waitress about it because it was disgusting and just unacceptable. The waitress came back with a piece of bread to replaced the one that was soaked with the sauce. Two bites later, same thing, and this time the waitress came back with 2 pieces of bread. My husband replaced both pieces, but they just kept getting soaked through, making the sandwich impossible to be enjoyed. We decided not to go back to the restaurant because of the food and the waitress' unwillingness to resolve the issue with the soaking sandwich.

Then last summer, we saw on the paper that it's under new management and we decided to give it a second chance. We went there and my husband ordered the All-You-Can-Eat ribs and I ordered the AYCE shrimps. The shrimps looked so nice and big and juicy on the menu so I decided to give it a try, but I was surprised when the waitress brought me a plate of dry-looking fry shrimps. The batter looked thick and overcooked, and the shrimps' sizes were reduced to less than 1/3 after I peeled off the hard batter on the outside. It looked nothing like what was featured on their menu.

After finishing those first 15 shrimps, it felt like nothing has really hit my stomach, so I asked for seconds. It took forever to come, and when it came, the shrimps were even smaller (even with the batter), and there were only 6. It took me less than a minute to fly through those. I had to order more, this time I doubled my order, and it took about double the time to come despite the fact that it should take the same time to cook 12 shrimps as to cook 6...

Service was poor, food was unspeakable, definitely will not go back there again.

Just plain mediocre to poor!

I went to this establishment one time. No more. The food was mediocre to poor as was the service. Therefore, the value was also poor. The ambiance, who cares? The food was poor. Never again. Judging by similar establishments such as Denny's, this place did not cut the mustard. I definitely would not go back.

We had the entertainment coupons so decided to try this place out. My bf had the shortibs which looked like a large portion but were served with frozen vegetable medley so nothing special. I had the sizzling fajitas which came with very well done onions which I enjoyed . My mango lemonade was not tart enough. The decor has a lot to look at. We had two servers as one was a trainee. We were asked six times if our food was allright which was a little much.

OK, after all those really bad reviews I really think that they deserve a bit more credit. I have been to Applebees about 8 times, mostly with the family and the kids love it. Now, I know the service is not the greatest but come on people, for $9.99 all you can eat riblets... you can't beat that. And yes they are not the best I've had, but they are not bad at all. And if you are going in to stuff yourself for 10 bucks... it's awesome. The only trick is that they take too long between orders so order soon.

Overall I think they deserve better... The food is good and that is what counts!

I think this is just a classier Denny's. I've been there several times over the past 4 years and the food quality is never consistent. In my opinion, the food is overpriced for what you get. I'm not talking about portions, they're decent. It's the taste I'm referring to. I probably would not go back again because I'm usually disappointed.

My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant in the past and been disappointed so when we saw the full page advertisement they put out in the local paper a bit ago to say they were under new ownership and management we were happy to try again. Well tonight was that trial. We went with our three children (4, 3, and 9 months) and my in-laws. Our drink order was taken quickly and we received our drinks. They were great. Our dinner order was taken quickly and it was looking like things may have changed. The waitress came to see how we were doing and said that the kitchen was backed up on steaks so our orders would be a bit longer. 10 Minutes later she came back and said they were plating. Our food came out, the adults before the kids... maybe that's just the way they do it but I would give the little kids their food first so the parents can cut it and what not.

We start eating, my first bite of garlic smashed potatoes is warm. Not hot and not cold. I cut into my medium-rare steak and see that it is cooked a bit more than I would like but oh well. Around the table, my husband said he knew they used fresh vegetables as his carrots weren't cooked. My mother-in-law got potatoes instead of rice, her steak was undercooked and her shrimp were cold. My father-in-law got cold shrimp. We continued to eat after my mother-in-law and I exchanged steaks. My potatoes were ice-cold after two more bites and my steak (that I had traded) ended up being so full of grissle my mother-in-law couldn't eat it. We complained and were to receive a new meal for my mother-in-law and desserts on the house. Well by the time everyone else had finished their desserts the new steak (no sides) had come out along with the bill. After it was all said and done we wasted $120.00 for a meal none of us will ever forget as it was undoubtedly the worst meal we have ever had. I will be calling to complain to the manager again on Monday and will happily tell everyone I see to not go there.

Simple pub food. Honest and reasonably priced. Good specials for food. You do not come here for the food though, but rather for the historic ambiance.

Watching the working river is a real treat, and feeling the trains pound by is also an experience.

A better outdoor section would be nice, but it is an old building, and a pleasure to spend an hour or so in.

Some of the regulars can be a little "nosey". Choose your seats carefully.

My husband and I have given Applebees a fair number of opportunities to prove our opinion of them wrong. They haven't. The food is horribly overpriced for the quality, the portion sizes are huge, and the food itself is generally unappetizing. Denny's is right next door, and their food is at least cheaper and arrives quicker.

Applebees only saving grace is that they have all you can eat rib nights, which are tasty, and their alcoholic beverages are really yummy. The wait staff are generally friendly, but always seem to have too many tables to look after.

The Worst Service Ever

This used to be a decent restaurant a few years ago. The last 2 visits have been just terrible. The food is still alright, but the service is the worst. I emailed the restaurant about my bad experience in their restaurant and was called back from the manager. However, the manager kept making some lame excuse about their computer system being down while we were there. Why didn't someone come to me to explain this??? Instead it took 1 hour to get our main entrees. I would definately never return to this restaurant, although they have sent out some gift certificates to me. I just threw them in the garbage!!!!

Good Family Fun

Applebees is fun for the kids. Good fun, its kinda tacky, but the kids like that dont they. The service is efficient, and attentive. They do get a little upset when the kids get uppity, but some restaurants get down right rude, so I can forgive them.
The food is not great, but very good. The bourbon steak is what I usually get here. Cooked well, a little tough, but good flavour.
They have great old fashion homestyle desserts.
The prices are reasonable, and its a good alternative to cooking at home, not a special occasion restaurant.
