Went there with my family for a late lunch today. It's a nice little family run restaurant but modern decor, but nothing spectacular.
We were seated right away, and the server brought us the menu and expected to order right away. Very quick service...probably because it was almost time for their break, everything was served in a hurry, a little too much of a hurry perhaps, we got the feeling that they just wanted us out right away!! As soon as we took the last piece of sushi from the plate, our server took away our plates and our tea and even our unused napkins before we even had a chance to use them!
The food was fairly decent and quite reasonably priced. We ordered the Crazy Boy (deep fried california roll),Snow Cap (california roll topped with grilled red snapper...delicious!), soft shell crab roll, the 10 piece sushi combo and the I don't remember the name of the last one, but it had deep fried eel and california roll fillings. Everything tasted very good, the snow cap being my personal favourite. The sushi was fresh. One thing I noted was that they had california roll filling with their special "sango sauce" in 80% (or more) of their roll choices, and they don't have a big selection of raw food. Perhaps a bigger selection of appys would be great addition to their menu.
Might go back...but definitely would go there earlier so we won't feel being rush out the door the moment we walk in.
Been to this restaurant a few times the past few months. Not the best japanese food but pretty darn good.
It's a small restaurant. The decor is pretty modern but lack a comfortable feel to it. Service is pretty good when they are not busy. But when they are busy, better sit outside in the common dining area so it's easier to flag them down for service.
The food taste good. Their fancy rolls taste great and not too pricey. Their donburi are a little on the plain side. Chicken don needs more chicken. Yakisoba is awesome. Regular sushi rolls such as tuna roll are very good with fresh fish. One thing they need to work on is more appertizers on the menu.
Very good overall and will continue going back.
Our whole family loves it. It's a treat, but yet reasonably priced. The menu is fun, interesting and different then any other sushi restaurant around. It is great to see the kitchen from your table, or to take the family into the private room. The the tv's are welcomed by the kids & Dad alike. We have done take out, but it is much more fun to eat in.
I went to Sango's because I felt like Japanese for dinner before seeing a movie and since it's right by Cineplex I thought I may as well try this place out. Well, I'm kind of disappointed because I eat at Japanese restaurants in Maple Ridge area often and although the food was delicious, this place appears to be a lot more expensive than the rest I've been to and the portions given are smaller. The service is really good though.
My SO and I have dined here 3 times in the last 2 months; following on the recomendation of a co-worker.
Very happy with this place. An interesting variety of rolls on the menu. All have tasted excellent / fresh / crunchy / etc. Salmon sashimi is first class. Nice tea and soup too.
Each time we order way too much food, and get out for $50 with tip. I think Sango offers very good value and look forward to dining there again this week!
A recent lunch experience here was very nice. Shared quite a few different rolls, all of them with one exception were outstanding. The lone hold out for me was a baby shrimp type roll, really just thawed baby shrimp mixed with mayo on rice. Unimpressive. Everything else was great, with a few stand-outs. In particular, a tuna belly item that was out of this world.
Service was solid, tea refills offered, plates cleared in a timely manner.
Seemed a little expensive to me, although I'm not an every day sushi eater. I'd recommend and go back, but maybe just for an occasional treat.
this restaurant is an interesting little find tucked away in the large strip mall. the atmostphere is hip and very modern. our waitress was very attentive and friendly and had helpful recommendations-although it looked like she definately was not old enough to be serving us our beer?? the food on the other hand is trying too hard to be like the atmostphere-hip and modern and it totally misses the mark. the sashimi carpaccio-which i love trying at various japanese restaurants when available, was just a plate of precut sushi pieces arranged on a plate with some kinda almost caesar salad like dressing drizzled on it-EW. and the crab cloud appetizer of pressed rice topped with crab meat was nothing like a cloud, the rice was pressed so hard, they should rename is cloud brick. we also tried a roll, the name which i have forgotten but it was topped with a long piece of unagi-that was alright. if i were to come back here, it would be for the ambience/modern interior and service but definately not for the food
Im not going to lie..... the best sushi around..... the service is horrible. Not once , twice but over and over again.. they are lucky that the food is so good but you do pay for it. It is pricier. worth every penny but the service gets me every time. Rude and they have to learn but the food brings us back until we found Tanuki sushi in Langley!!!! yey because i hated going because of the service!
Sango's Sushi is very much like the interior of the restaurant, hip and modern. They have put a great twist on sushi and come up with some with some inventive rolls that are lovingly plated.
Although I enjoyed the food, the service was just so so and the prices seemed much higher than other sushi restaurants. Also, I have a baby and this doesn't really seem like the type of place that I would feel comfortable taking her.
I've been recommended this restaurant by my friend. We came here with my husband on Friday night. Let me say: my husband doesn't like sushi.
We took assorted sushi and baked salmon sushi. I've tried a lot of sushi around lower mainland, but the baked salmon sushi was just incredible, hot rice, hot salmon with hot melted cheese on top. Really unsual combination.
The rest of the sushi and gyoza was very good as well.
Our bill came to $30, not cheap but definetely worth the money.
The ambiance is pleasant, the service is not bad for an asian place. THe waitresses speak decent English.
Highly recommended!!! I would come again!
This is the best sushi restaurant by far!!! If your sick of same old and want to try new rolls as well as your typical ones this is the place!! They melt in your mouth and each flavour is unique. We live in Cloverdale and travel to Pitt Meadows for this sushi!!! I cant eat sushi anywhere else since. Its always consistent and never have we been disappointed. The owner is always there watching which makes us a little nevous but he sure is anal and thats good. Dont forget to repeat your order back to the waitress or you never know what youll get!!! other than that i wish theyd come this way and open a restaurant here!!
