Good Coffee ~ Great Gelato ~ Local Hangout ~Free WiFi. Great place to hang out with the locals outside or in. Gotta try the Gelato! Rated #2 on Tripadvisor. Open early for the early riser. They actually bake goods on site, grind their own coffee, make their own sandwiches ~ real handmade food!
Don't tell a Parisian but, their Croissants are better than Paris as good as Wien / Vienna. I alternate between Chocolate & the Almond ones :) The smells are incredible: rising bread, baked goods coming out of oven, fresh roasted coffee being ground & made. Wow ! We send all the early risers from the Pemberton Gateway Hotel, across the street over there.

I went with a group and was among the first of our party to arrive so we ordered coffee for our wait. The waitress spent a minute discussing the menu when we first sat down but only to tell us which menu items were unavailable due to lack of ingredients.She never mentioned the option of choosing between a light and dark roast which we didn't learn about until the guy at my table she seemed to like showed up late and he got the option. Nobody else. She took over twenty minutes to bring the coffee, filled the mugs up only half way, the coffee was cold, and she made us wait another ten to bring over the cream and sugar. The small 2/3 full creamer was not enough for everyone so it took her another fifteen to go refill it but by then everyone had either just started to drink their coffee the way it was or lost interest altogether. The decor itself doesn't look bad but I was freezing and every time the door opened the draft would hit everyone at one side of our table. I was wishing I could have at least warmed up with my half-cup of weak coffee but even the "refill" I asked for was cold. We waited over two hours for our food while many people came and left. When the food did arrive it was also cold and she kept giving the food to the same guy at our table and walking away. I ordered the burger and fries and liked the aoli but I found the food mediocre and the fact that nothing I ordered was served hot was disappointing and made it even less enjoyable. Two of the people I ate with were supposed to receive a salad as side dish but nothing came but the fish on their plates. The waitress was not very polite except towards one person and would even walk away as we tried to talk to her since she was paying no attention. I didn't notice how long it took for her to finally bring the bill but it was a long time after we finally got her attention long enough to ask for it and by then we were all late to get back to our day because at this point we were there for about three hours. All for horrible service and cold and overpriced food nobody was impressed with. The restaurant selection is very small in Pemberton but not so small that I can see myself ever returning.
Stopped at the Wood for a late lunch today. Both my girlfriend and I had the Mac and cheese with Chorizo. It was a very disappointing dish. The cheese sauce had split on both our dishes and was very greasy. The kitchen either screwed up the sauce and due to lack of skill didn't remake the dish, or they reheated it in the microwave. The waitress, while friendly, never asked how the food was, so I guess she knows. I did bring it up with her and she came back and said the kitchen told her it was the cheese and it was fine. I can only say they need a better kitchen staff, because if they think a split cheese sauce is right, they should be in the dish pit. The ambiance and location is good, so this was a shame.
