We went to La Piazza on Saturday night with some friends who highly recommended it. First of all, I have to say that the band that they had was fantastic, they just added to the great evening that we all had. The food was incredibly good, the service was wonderful and the owner is just delightful. Great time and can't wait to go back.
I go to Ottawa annually on business and always eat at La Piazza at least one night. I travel alone and have had excellent service eating there as a single woman - and not purchasing big meals. The food is as wonderful as everyone says, and I've never had a problem getting reservations last minute if I eat late. The owner is always very accomodating and the restaurant is a lot of fun. Definitely worth a splurge . . . again and again
this place used to be great, but i have been told it is now under new management and the food quality and cleanliness has gone downhill, last few experiences have been very poor with skimping out on the amount of meat to put on the subs to floppy old veggies and staff that done feel the need to wash their hands. I even called one guy out on the hand washing, and his response was “its fine" i left and have never been back.
We went to this restaurant on Saturday night as they had our favourite band, the bluejacks, playing. They're fantastic. We were really surprised that the food was as good as it is. We started out with an order of the carpacio, wonderful, served with capers, lemon, red onions and crostini bread.
then we moved on to an order of the calamari. It was by far the best I've had, not greasy at all and the cocktail sauce is definately home made, with a nice horseradish tang to it. Next time we'll have more than a couple of appetizers. We were lucky that we got a table, the place was packed.
We always have a lovely evening when we go to this local hangout. The owners are wonderful, the food is incredible and the ambiance is always really lively. We can't get enough of their steamed mussels - the broth is delicious, wonderfully aromatic with a great blend of flavours, and always accompanied by their great freshly baked bread. We usually share an order of the gnocchi as well as whatever their special is, it's always fantastic. Highly recommend, great for groups - reservations are a must though.
What a fantastic place. We didn't have a reservation for this wonderful place but were able to sit at the bar and was look after by the owner, Frank. The atmosphere of this small restaurant is great and the food is even better. The owner engaged in conversation with us the entire time and we had a blast getting to know him. We will be back.
Being from Toronto we have our fair share of great restaurants, that being said I wasn't expecting something exceptional from a little place outside Ottawa. I was absolutely blown away by this restaurant though; the food is really something special.
All the dishes that we had were incredible, great portion size and amazing flavours. The smelts were wonderful and not something I'd seen anywhere before, apparently they are very popular in Italy. Ther'e these tasty little battered and fried fish in this case they were served spicy with red chilli flakes. They were gone in a hurry at our table.
The lobster ravioli was wonderful and loaded with Lobster meat, truly delicious.
The owner stopped at our table and offered us a complimentary Limoncello to end our meal, it was a lovely refreshing end to a memorable meal.
Best Italian in Ottawa tried so far. Great wine list, antipasti and pasta. The food is home-cooked and tastes very close to what you can enjoy in a great restaurant in Italy, which is rare in Ottawa! I have lived in Italy a year and can tell this place is really worth the short drive Manotick! All my friends greatly enjoyed our meal.
Some dishes are from the owners region in Tuscany. Lovely patio setting, lush, garden like with lots of flowers in hanging baskets, you're truly surrounded by this beautiful garden setting. Recommended going when you can get a reservation on the Patio.
Warmly recommended. And family-run, authentic, culinary experience.
Wonderful food, excellent hospitable service, the Creme Brulee is a must to have! We had a party of twenty for a business outing, and everyone loved the food, the wine, the desserts, and the service. Very very nice.. not stuffy, just a great going-out place with a fantastic patio and great live bands on the weekend. Reservations are a must as it's really busy!
I reckon this is one of the busier locations, so service is understandably a bit slower.
But I found that some of the baristas at the Rideau Centre Starbucks aren't very attentive, and are slightly rude when calling out drinks from the bar.
Next time, I'll walk over to the Starbucks in the Chapters across the street.
What a lovely restaurant this is, we ate here on the weekend and had one of the best meals that I've had in a very long time. The place is hidden just off the main street in Manotick, a lovely little place just outside Ottawa. There is a beautiful patio, where they had a band the night we were there, I'm unsure how often they have them but it was quite a good one that was playing that night.
We shared some appetizers, Calamari, Bruschetta and a really delightful Antipasto Platter. At the owners suggestion we enjoyed them with a lovely bottle of red wine which was really nice.
Overall, the food was great, the wine was nice and the evening was really warm; a perfect combination.
You need to try the new Milano Pizza on River Road. It's like other Milanos but even better. Call them and ask about - The Walk in Special.
I suggest trying the Greek Pizza and adding pineapple and the Chicken Wings are ridiculous good.
Don't mistake it for Milano City which is not a real Milano pizza franchise.
We had an amazing meal at this local restaurant on the weekend. The food is truly incredible, the pasta's always fresh and the service is wonderful. We always seem to luck out and get a table on their beautiful patio, the lush landscape if gorgeous. It's usually packed on the weekends, this was no exception; we had a short wait for a table but it's always worth it. Our meal was great, service was quick and the food is simply scrumptious.
My wife & I dined at La Piazza this May 2012. The service and food blew us away. I hesitated to write a review on our experience lest it might have been an one-off thing. Not so. We were there again 2 nights ago and it again produced one of the best dining experiences ever. Here's our hint: pasta you can get just about anywhere else, but the Veal....all you chefs out there know how difficult it is to cook great veal, with flavor, not too much. spice, it's a fine balance, Say no more. The magic guy in this kitchen CAN!!! Prices were acceptable. And yes, the owner from Italy, Frank, is at the top of his game. Trust him on recommendations.
Words cannot simply discribe what a tremendous evening my wife and I had at La Piazza. From the very knowledgeable Matre D, to our server who was tremendous and extremely honest with his recommendations. Wine pricing was very reasonable, which led us to order a bottle of our favorite celebratory wine Zenato, Amarone. Bottle was a perfect compliment to an amazing meal!
From the starters of Calamari and Mussels, to the ceasar salads, to the main course of Lasagna, and the veal scallopini, all were executed beautifully. Service was paced perfectly as well, not hurried or rushed.
This is our new Itialian restaurant in Manotick. We loved the fact that there was patio seating as well in the garden. Really a beautiful setting. No wonder this place has been there for 4 years.
I have this picture in my mind of a little Italian cafe in Venice just off St Mark’s square where you can rub elbows with all sorts of people as you all partake in some well-kept culinary secret. Well, I doubt La Piazza is a much of a secret to locals, but I still feel like I'm in some kind of in-the-know crowd when I go eat there. The restaurant vibrant and very busy and the food is rich and satisfying. The specials are always delightful and any of the appetizers are delicious, the smelts are my favourite. The best entree - HANDS DOWN - is the homemade cannelloni and Manicotti. My husband loves to get the veal or the lamb. We never really have room for dessert, come to think of it haha! I really like their selection of wines by the glass since my husband doesn't drink wine and the idea of ordering a whole bottle to myself (while tempting...) is quite impractical. If you go, you really need to get a reservation first, especially on the weekend.
I live in the area so i have taken friends and family here many times. Without exception everyone has loved thier meal. Very well run place. Friendly servers. Prices are reasonable. Best Gnocchi ever. excellent homemade pasta; delicious entrees, wine; lovely owner; impeccable customer service and a fantastic wine list to boot. There is just too much about this restaurant that's great.
Amazing food, truly amazing.... I had the best meal I've ever had at this restaurant on the weekend. We went just to enjoy the bands that were playing over Dickinson Days and support the Rock for Rogers House event, but I have to say that the food was definately the center of attraction for the evening. I had the most delicious gnocchi ever, so flavourful and fresh I can't wait to go back.
I went to La Piazza on the weekend with a group of friends to celebrate Dickinson Days. We'd all be told that the food was fantastic, boy, was it ever. Being an Italian it's hard to beat real home cooked Italian, this place actually did manage to beat it... The flavors were amazing, fresh Basil in the sauces, real chilles for some amazing heat, spicy shrimp, you name it - we ate it.
Now for the other part, I LOVE a good glass of full bodied red wine and was introduced to a couple of fantastic new wines here. The list is extensive and the pairings with the food are wonderful.
Overall, we had an amazing time, the weather wasn't great but we managed to have a great time anyway. Good music, good wine, good food - can't ask for much more than that.
Went for lunch with a buddy, we both like food and were hungry.
The server was great and apologized a lot.
Food was terrible, they need a real chef. The server tried to tell us that the chef was experienced but experience could mean working at McDonald's.
I had the lobster ravioli which was poorly cooked, seasoned and filled.
The lobster was old and I didn't eat at any all.
My friend shared his chicken panini with me, it was extremely sad for a $13 sandwich.
$40 lunch that was basically amateur hour
