The food here is exceptional, the chef is amazing and knows how to cook traditional Italian fare. The manacotti and canelloni are both incredible, I look forward to having the pasta every time I go here. Great value for money, the portions are a good size and you don't leave hungry.
We tried this restaurant on the advice of my daughter who lives in the area. I have to say that the food was impeccable, the lobster ravioli that I had was delicious. My husband had the gnocchi and it was the best that he's had in a very long time. Next time we'll take our daughter so she can enjoy the food as well.
We love going to this restaurant, we're always greeted warmly - they take our coats and hang them up, then ensure you get them back at the end of the night, great service.
The food is wonderful, we've had most things on the menu and nothing disappoints, the smelts are really original and something everyone should try, they are tasty little crunchy fish with a smattering of spicy red pepper.
They tend to give you too much food so we usually end up taking home a take out portion, which they are more than happy to oblige with. We always have a lovely time at this restaurant and it's a family fave.
This is the kinda place I wish I knew about when I was playing tour guide in Ottawa.
This place is absolutely amazing.
The Chef, the menu, the service, the experience, the ambiance and the quality and freshness of the food are indescribable. BY FAR one of THE best dining experiences that I have EVER had.
I can't describe it; You gotta try it to believe it.
Since we eat at La Piazza all the time we were intrigued to learn that they were starting cooking lessons, so we signed up. Our first class was last night and we started with a valiant attempt at making steamed mussels, I have to say that with the chef's excellent instruction and extensive knowlege of Italian cooking we did an amazing job. Now I just have to try and replicate this at home for the family. The restaurant itself is always a wonderful dining experience, we regularly go for the great, fresh pastas and sauces, their gnocchi is amazing and is a personal favourite of mine. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice Italian meal where they don't skimp on the portions or the taste.
This is quite honestly one of the best traditional Italian restaurants that I've ever been to. I visited Ottawa on the weekend with some friends and we drove out to this scenic little village on the outskirts of the city. As we were walking around the village we came upon this restaurant behind a courtyard in the middle of the village.
Upon entering we were greeted warmly by the owner and were seated at a lovely table by the window. The owner recommended the gnocchi and the mussels as well as the shrimp diavola. We decided to try all of his suggestions and were really impressed with everything. The food was delicious, not pretentious, portion sizes were what you would expect for the price, overall it was a great value.
Everyone loved everything that they ate, we had a wonderful afternoon and ended up leaving wishing we lived closer to Ottawa... Back to Toronto for now.
After going to this place a few times I see no need to go to any of the other overpriced, not as good Italian restaurants in Ottawa. La Piazza rivals them all, the pasta is all fresh, homemade, the value is incredible and the food is outstanding. I've had most of the items on the menu and there is nothing that I wouldn't recommend to anyone. It's just all that good. The owner is a typical Italian, he's very proud of his heritage and has tried to replicate what you would find at a nice neighborhood Italian restaurant in Abruzzo.
The wine list is really good, they have some special finds that are not available anywhere else. We are never disappointed with our meals when we eat here and we usually try to go once a month.
This is such a wonderful restaurant in Manotick, Ontario (just on the outskirts of Ottawa). The restaurant is situated just off a lovely courtyard when you first drive into Manotick Main Street. The owner has tried to recreate his Italian upbringing in a charming restaurant. There are wonderful pictures of Italy on several flat screens situated throughout the restaurant which lend a lovely ambience to the space.
The really special part of the restaurant is the food, it's absolutely incredible. They have fresh homemade pastas, the gnocchi is made from scratch and is silky and wonderful, the spicy rose sauce that it's served with is delicious. Their appetizers are amazing, especially the antipasto platter and the mussels and smelts - all wonderful.
We've been going here for a number of years and the place just keeps getting better. Worth a try if you're in the area, I'd make reservations though if you're thinking about going on a weekend, Friday's and Saturday's are very busy.
I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I'm pretty lazy.
A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I were craving Shawarmas. We were lucky to find Shawarma Prince not to far away from where we live.
It is sad that they do not have delivery because we would most likely order from here at least once a week if they did.
I got a Vegan Shawarma and my boyfriend got the Chicken one.
Typically Felafel in a sandwich makes me feel ill, I do not know if it is just to much for my stomach to handle, but I digress, the sandwich was perfect and I did not get that "gross" feeling I do from most places.
My boyfriend had ordered garlic potatoes and I ordered rice as a side, before he put the garlic sauce on my boyfriends potatoes, I snagged one just to try them when the guy serving us saw this he asked if I would like a few potatoes added to my rice for free, I said yes thinking that I would have one or two to snack on when I got home I saw he had given me about half an order of them!
This was a small gesture that will keep us coming back... not to mention the food is amazing and the price is solid.
The guy who served us was all smiles and was patient with me as I asked him questions about what went into the food and how it was prepared, being Vegan I am not use to people being so patient with me as I make sure no animal products are used in what I will be eating.
We will defiantly be back for the service alone, the food being as good as it is... that is just the icing on the cake.
I made this review for the Earl Grey location, but everyone seems to be posting those here, so I will follow suit and add it here as well....
Last night my boyfriend decided to order himself some wings from Pizza Pizza, as a vegetarian who is also Lactose Intolerant (I guess that makes me somewhat of a vegan) One of the only things I can order from there (aside from a cheeseless pizza) is their garlic sticks.
There was a Blizzard last night so delivery took approx 50 minutes, which is understandable.
When the food got her, my boyfriends wings were cold, but he decided it did not really bother him all that much. However; when I opened my box of garlic sticks I discovered they had decided to add an ingredient to them... cheese. I'm not sure why they did it, maybe they were trying to be friendly and if it was not for the fact that I can not handle dairy it would not have mattered but since that is not the case we called back. The customer service agent who handled the complaint was very nice and said she would send out a new order of bread sticks right away. It took over 50 minutes for the new ones to arrive when they did, the driver handed the box to my boyfriend and walked away before my boyfriend could check them. When my boyfriend came inside and opened the box he discovered that they had written a note on the inside of the box lid, it read: "We are sorry we ruined your garlic sticks with 2 slices of cheese, won't happen again". I'd like to mention that there was a lot more then "2 slices of cheese" and even if it was only two slices, there is not suppose to be any cheese on them at all. So this was their mistake and they decided to take it out on me by leaving a sarcastic note? I was and still am pretty furious about the note they left. When I called customer service regarding this they said they would lodge a service complaint and assured me the manager of the store would get it, however Since I can not find the store's phone number, only the 737-1111 number, I plan to make a visit to the manager myself regarding this.
It was insult to injury that my 2nd order of garlic bread was burnt, my boyfriend is confident that the second order was made poorly deliberately.
The last time I ordered from this location I went as a walk in, I am pretty sure I was served by the manager and the customer service was outstanding, to me and to everyone else I saw severed while I was waiting for my order to be prepared. It out-stands me that within the span of a week I can have the best and worst service ever at the same location.
There are many other posts that were made last night in regards to the poor service they received and I hope that those people also filled out a service complaint, the only way to stop bad customer service is to report it. I hope the Manager realizes that the staff he had working for him last night is treating his customers poorly and acts on it, because if this is not corrected I am sure I can find another restaurant that will be willing to accommodate me being "Vegan" and make me an order of garlic sticks minus the cheese without leaving nasty notes.

So I got hungry one day and decided to look around China Town and while searching I found a small restaurant that looks a bit like a shack. I wasn't sure at first but I couldn't make up my mind about where to eat so I decided to eat here. I ordered the Fried pork slices with a side order of rice and had fried dumplings with peanut sauce. To my surprise the service was very quick and the people the were friendly and the food was delicious it is now one of my favorite Chinese restaurant spots. The place may be small but the food is amazing and you can enjoy watching TV while eating (though I didn't understand what the show was about) In my opinion Three Kings is a lot better then those other fancy places that like to show off their expensive traditional style paintings I definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves good Chinese food.
We went to Jimmy the Greek (Carlingwood mall) on 2012-01-05 for dinner. We ordered a chicken souvlaki dinner and a chicken souvlaki pita. We received the chicken souvlaki dinner, but we were still waiting for the pita. We have been asked to pay while waiting which we did. We started noticing that 2 other people after us received their chicken souvlaki pitas whereas we were still waiting. Therefore, we gently asked the person at the cash why those persons received their pitas before us. He looked at us with a very contemptuous and disrespectful face and he said aggressively: "Don't look at me when you ask this question. I am not responsible for the food, go talk to the guy that makes the food. I am just the cashier." Then he ignored us and put a fake smile on his face to serve the next customer. We felt very insulted and will never go back to this place. On top of having a rude service, the service was also very slow. The employees do not communicate with each other. We do not recommend this fast food place to anyone.
This store makes awesome take home food. Tried their beef stroganoff never tasted something with so much flavour. They also make their own baguettes. I also tried their cassoulet which was amazing: duck confit, homemade garlic sausages what else could i ask for. Best french cuisine i ever had. I strongly recommend this place!
Just got back in Aug. from 3 mth. motor home trip to Alaska. Across Canada, we stopped a few times for onion rings at A&Ws we saw. Forgot how good they were. The way things turned out, we didn't get much chance to have them again until we happened to be shopping in Hazeldean Mall at Blacks.
Saw the A&W and said .. lets get an order each. $8.11 or something for 2 orders!
They were disgusting. Greasy, VERY salty like there was a seasoning salt on them and they coloured our fingers. Groups of 2 and 3 rings were stuck together and even scorched on one end.
Stupid us though ... ate most and said .. will NEVER eat at this A&W again. If I get another order like this in the future at another A&W... then will not eat at this fast food place again.
Just very disappointed. They are usually so good and hadn't had them in years prior to our trip out west.
As far as dinners go, this place definitely wins the ambiance award. Very few places in Ottawa have the service and the decor that Elgin Street Dinner has, and if your looking for that, at any time of the day, tis the place to go. Open 24h with very good service throughout (curiously enough, the truly amazing service is in the wee hours of one or two in the morning), the food is almost just as good, not breaking any records but still in generous portions. The one drawback of this place is the price. It isn't the kind of pricey of, say, the Ritz, but it certainly isn't the most accessible for everyone. If you have the money, go for it, otherwise don't make a habit of it.
Nice place to enjoy a Sleeman though, I'll give you that.
Hard to understand him but the owner of this place is the friendliest guy I know. Generous portions, delicious meat (soft and tasty, he actually uses a special recipe), will always make the sandwich you want, and that for the lowest price I know in town. Only drawbacks: you could stay there to enjoy your shawarma but it's a little cramped, best walk to Rideau. Also the debit machine has had a lot of issues, either slow or ends up not working well.
So bring cash if you want to be sure. The small-size shawarma is $4.50 during the week, half-price for women on mondays and a little more expensive on wednesday. But for uOttawa students or anyone in the ares, it's a rewardingly filling deal well worth the trek.
First off, the man asks me to pay BEFORE he makes my shawarma. What the hell. That's just like, violating every shawarma ordering laws out there, let alone anything food business related. But whatever, I'm hungry, maybe he's just a bit weird like that.
He tells me to go and wait for him at the shawarma stand, "be there shortly". I stand there as the guy, the owner of the place as it happens, starts chatting up the woman buying cigarettes at his conveniencey-store stand. And he chats. Chats and chats. Quips a bad jokes. Yo, man, I'm waiting for a shawarma here.
After a good ten minutes (at least fifteen since I payed), he finally comes over. As a good Canadian, I think to myself, oh well, it's not like I had anything better to do, I'll still get food and a drink for an okay price. He starts asking what I want in it.
This this and that.. he takes his cooking tweezers and picks them off the pile like they're radioactive rice beads and piles a thing the size of a penny. Tiny portions. Urgh. I try to insist on the pickles and garlic sauce (I always ask for lots of those), but then he gets angry and starts loudly rambling on about how things simply won't fit and he won't be able to close it and things'll fall apart when I try to eat it. Dude, nevermind that your portions were ridiculously insignificant to begin with and there was plenty of space to cater my demands, but shawarmas fall apart and leak everywhere when you eat them. It's part of the experience. And anyway, after making me wait that long, the least you could do is be just the tiniest bit more generous. Or you know, not rant at me like that and write a negative review about your terrible business. Anyway, getting ahead of myself.
So, finally, I have my food and I sit down on shabby looking chair at lusterless table (turns out that was just the poor light) and I realize he doesn't have heating. It's -30 celsius outside. Apparently he's mooching off the heating of the McDonald's next door and it isn't working too well. I take a bite; putrid nonsense. The wattery garlic is overpowered with the taste of these olives that make me think of what Black Plague ridden Paris probably would have smelled like. I'm not saying this literally but those were truly distasteful! And I didn't even ask for the olives, when the hell did he sneak those in?!
Bottom line, don't dine here. It's the one single worst shawarma place I've ever been to, out of Ottawa and Montréal, Toronto, even Vancouver.
I had a $50 voucher, via Kahoot.ca, and they refused to honour it. They got the money and kept it, without providing anything. Service stinks. Bad attitude. Not somewhere you would want to eat.
This is the kind of service of the old Canadian Tire, before Wal-Mart, et al arrived and showed how to treat customers. You don't take money from your "customer" and then say "too bad".
We ordered take-out and were horribly displeased with the results. The food had zero flavour and was not what we were expecting. When we called to "discuss' the problem, we were met with a horrible attitude and no effort to try to remedy the situation. We returned the food and demanded our money back, to no avail. On the bottom of their take-out menu, it specifically says "No refunds on food". What kind of place does this? Fortunately after some more discussion we were able to swap out our order for some different dishes, but they were just as terrible as the original. Save yourself the trouble, go somewhere else.
