I found about this place while I was at Thomas Haas having a cappuccino. It was great and I found out that Thomas Haas uses Moja Coffee. I decided to head to north van last weekend to visit Moja Coffee Cafe -)
It's not that far out of the way, just over the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge and it's about 5 minutes off the freeway.
Place is nice, they roast their own beans in house. Staff seem pretty passionate about their coffee. They didn't have much for food options here, more of a strictly coffee house with a few muffins or pastry type snacks to choose from. I had a cappuccino for $3.75 and it was fantastic, 5 out of 5. I've visited a lot of coffee houses in the lower mainland and Moja makes the best espresso by far. From now on I will only use Moja espresso at my home also (they sell bags of beans for $16)
After reading reviews here, we were hesitant to venture into Andreas, but do know how easy it is to post negative opinions so decided to try it. Totally enjoyed our meals - a great selection at reasonable prices - and so much food. We all took food home with us. Service was great, a very casual atmosphere which families can
enjoy at ease. Glad we came in, and we will be back. The lovely fresh loaf of bread given us as we left was such a bonus!
Went there recently on Saturday night. It was very busy, but the service was prompt. I had calamari dinner, which was excellent and not greasy at all. My husband's lamb shank was very tender. Very creamy Zatziki. In addition to usual selections they offer some unfamiliar (to me anyways) casserole dishes too. Will go back again.
Latest addition to the North Shore Vietnamese restaurant scene, the Pho Saigon offers best soup. Very friendly and attentive staff. Only opened a few months ago, they have developed solid lunch crowd. My favorite is #10 (beef ball & raw beef) and crunchy spring rolls. The price is slightly higher than the ones on Kingsway, but still very reasonable. Highly recommended.
Recommended by a friend to visit the restaurant.
Although there was a line up. we were seated in a matter of minutes.
Even though the restaurant was full, the service was fast, efficient, always with a smile and exceptionally polite.
Very very reasonably priced and above all, the food was delicious, salads tasted fresh, just right and taste and tenderness of the meat was perfect. Big portions too!! Th two of us could not finish it all and had to take out the rest.
The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant was of happiness and contentment.
Lots of polite service staff always whizzing by and never short of service. If you like authentic Iranian food, you should go.
If you are not Persian/Iranian, you might want to ask the server in detail what your meal would look like as there are no "pictures" of the meals on the menu. There is a TV screen depicting what meals look like at different intervals. Did not see any alcohol being served.
In short, a great dining experience.
One of the best restaurant I have been to. You should go...
After reading the reviews, we thought we'd try this place out on a Saturday night & were pleasantly surprised.
There was a diverse selection of menu items, all very reasonably priced, with the hotness being indicated by a "chilli" rating. We started with the "roti canai", which was a good appetiser. For main course I had the kari lamb & asked for it to be spiced up a little. It was a succulent dish of tender lamb in a superb-tasting curry sauce. It was the perfect hotness; very spicy without losing the flavours. It was a good sized portion & came with a adequate bowl rice. Delicious.
Friends ordered different dishes, all of which were extremely tasty & colourful & once again the portions were generous. Great value for money.
The service was solid, efficient & attentive, without being overbearing.
The restaurant is not too big & is popular, so we booked & I would advise you to do the same, particularly if dining on a busy Saturday night. Be aware the restaurant closes at 9.30pm on Sat./Sun., which does seem a little early. We were given notice that the bar was closing & were invited to order additional drinks & food, if required. However, we did not feel rushed, despite the staff wanting to shut up shop.
The decor is basic but adequate. The atmosphere is OK. You can carry on a conversation without loud music etc.
There's a good selection of beers & wines, but there was no cider for my wife. It would be good to see a few draught beers on tap.
I'm not overly familiar with Malaysian food, but this was a great find & I would definintely a go back.
I've been in North Van for a long time and I've always noticed this restaurant as i pass by but never dined in. I finally decided and took my friends this past weekend to Kyung Bok palace. We should have never went.
We ordered the BBQ COMBO for 4 and the amount of food we got was crappy. The amount of meat they gave us couldn't even feed a full grown man. Absolutely crappy but we were hungry so we ordered more meat which is additional 28. You'd think that's a fair amount of meat for that amount of pricing right? heck no!!! the meat they brought out was not worth the extra $28. It was insulting! I've been to other Korean bbq restaurants in greater Vancouver and for a bit cheaper, we got "all you can eat " meats!
If you don't believe me, please by all means go and waste your money and see for yourself. The taste was overall good but you can get that elsewhere for cheaper and more.
My overall rating is 1/5 only because they actually served the food.
If you like fish and chips then you have to give this C-Lovers a try. They offer Halibut, Cod or Pollock and it all tastes great. Every time I order from there its perfect and its usually ready in about 5 minutes. A perfect spot lunch or dinner. Give this place a try and you'll be pleased I'm sure.
Happened here during their happy hour which takes a few dollars off of some of the dishes that are already very reasonably priced. The menu is nice and concentrated, and it shows in the execution of the food. The chicken kabab is very nice. The lamb shank with dill rice is a definite star. Nice tender lamb that easily glides apart as your fork presses down on it. Service is efficient without being pushy. All in all a good place to stop in for a meal when on the north shore.
Me and my wife used to go here alot.
Don't get me wrong the food is good and
Good value. We used to love the atmosphere
Run by an italian family. Good staff. But in the
Last couple of years ill tell you things have totally
Changed. The last 3 times we went there
The service was a nightmare and the waiters
And waitresses just don't care whatsoever
They probably make minimum wage.
The last 2 times we were there they
Totally got our order wrong and made us
Wait without being apologetic.
The owners the husband and wife used to
Be caring individuals but they no longer
Seem to care about their business eighter.
When confronted they just didnt care no apology
And they jus blame their bad service
On the fact that their busy or their short staffed
If u don want to be dissappoited dont go here!
My family dined here tonight and my husband and I both ordered a combo sushi. I asked for wild salmon, usually I can always request wild salmon if the restaurant doesn't provide it as standard. I don't mind paying extra for wild. I was stunned to find out that they don't have wild, only farmed salmon! I find it quite sad that customers aren't asking for wild more, with so much information about the benefits of wild, and the detrimental effects of farmed...
For this reason alone we won't be back.
The food (other than the farmed salmon) was really good, the tuna melted in my mouth, and the price was great. Service was not very good at all, in fact really bad, but I would overlook this if the salmon was not farmed.
Too bad... :(
Well, I came here for the first time in the early 90's and I really don't remember what I had or how it was. My girlfriend took me here again after so many years for my birthday and boy, was it cheap and pretty good. I had the Pot Roast, it was good, nothing fancy and I had the salad buffet with it also. The dessert can be a bit better, not too bad, but I saw a pie out in the open that night on a cart, just sitting there, it should be covered or behind some glass so people that walk by don't sneeze or cough when going by.
Already in my reviews I always state that the people working anywhere, especially in the Food industry to tie their hair up and don't touch your face or hair. Not that I saw anything like this that night and oh, my friend told me she heard that the restaurant is the third place for being clean in the North Shore. I am happy to hear that.
The deco is ugly, the place does need reno's, it looks like the 80's still. Just as long as it's clean and the staff is clean.
The food is good. I had the Fish n' chips, burger, pasta dishes since I've been back this year. All cheap in price, which is great, considering no one has money these days.
All in All, try out this place, great for taking your mom and pop to. Good Food...Good Prices.....staff is pretty friendly. Service is ok. For the price you pay. Try this place out!
Thanks to Lynn and Brian, proud new owners of my favorite burger joint, Vera's on Lonsdale, North Vancouver, we can now sit in clean comfort within a newly-renovated much-improved environment, chowing down on my favorite Veggie extra cool works combo, while chatting with the ever-friendly staff and owners. They certainly are proud of their new digs, and obviously the staff are really happy about working there. Each time I come in (I am a shameless regular, so much so that the staff know what to make for me the moment I walk through their door) I FREQUENTLY bring in friends so that they can some day become inveterate regulars too. Staff are always very friendly, professional and happy, greeting everyone who comes in like they are old friends.
I will only go to my Lonsdale Vera's burger for my veggie burgers, and believe me, I've been all over Vancouver and North Shore looking for the best veggie. These guys here are the only ones who know just how much fixins to put in the burger, even compared to other Vera's in Vancouver! Therefore, this is the only place that provides me with what I want. And they can count on me to keep coming there, to dine in or take out.
My companion enjoyed her natural burger, also cool works, and agreed that this was the premier place, making the best burgers around the lower mainland.
So, folks, come in and try the new digs, fixed up like a little diner.
Chomp down on the best burgers in this area whether you're a carnivore or a veg...
This place is great. They have amazing value in their lunch specials. The quality is always high and the food is very consistent. I have eaten here dozens of times for lunch and it is now one of my favorite lunch places on the North Shore. The food here is much better than the Thai House and the prices are better too. I recommend you give this place a try if your looking for a great lunch at a great price. You won't be disappointed.
I always enjoy my lunch at Capilano Sushi. Take out is always quick and the food is always good. They have specials for under $7.00 that are well worth it. Give this place a try and you won't regret it. I've tried all their local competitors and I say for the price you can't beat Capilano Sushi. One of my favorite lunch spots on the north shore.
This place has the very best cappuccinos, they are comparatively well priced and the people that work there are just great. They obviously enjoy being there and take pride in what they do - with good reason. I am addicted this coffee! The muffins are delicious and huge. Dog friendly patio too.
went to the Vera's in North Van and had stopped going for poor quality. The new owners were amazing and the place with its sports on the three or four televisions made the visit not only fun but interesting as there were different games on each TV. The food was top notch and service was excellent. We ordered the Canuck burger and we were not only served at our table but asked how it was. We felt like we were at a restaurant/pub as we never had to leave the table at any time. I will be back,
Unfortunately, service doesn’t come with a smile here. While their doughnuts are exquisitely tasteful, the staff attitude, on the other hand, is just the opposite. In fact, the last time I was there, one lady berated a couple of out of town tourists for having English as a second language, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth (not a good combination with their delicious doughnuts). I’m presuming she is the owner’s wife, judging from the rancid eau-de-arrogance emanating from her personality -- as if to say, “I (co)own this place, little minion, so yes, I can and will treat you like the dog excrement under my left shoe, and think NOTHING of it.” You stay classy, co-owner lady. I will come back for a doughnut, but let it be known that I will not provide you with a smile. Nor a tip.
I've been to Northlands a half dozen times or so. The food is excellent & the view can't be beat. However, the last couple times I've gone, the only server working is friendly but never around. Both times my husband had to chase him down to ask where our food was, & we waited over half an hour for our meals even though there were only a few tables occupied. Then we had to chase the server down again to pay the bill. It's a lovely place if you have ages to wait for your food, but I probably won't be going back for a while. Hopefully they shape up. It used to be a great place with excellent value, but the slow service is a real turnoff.
We decided on brunch this morning with a gift certificate for DeDutch.
It was Sunday morning at 11 am. We had to wait about 10 mins.
I agree with others, this place is very small. Although I find that many other of the DeDutch restaurants are also very small. I am not sure why.
But once I was seated I did not really care about the size of the place.
The coffee arrived right away, and was regularly filled, and we even got more cream when we were running low and we did not even ask.
I had the Boer’s (Farmer’s) which includes
Hash Browns, Ham, DeBakon*, Bratwurst,
Eggs and Hollandaise all places on a large dutch thin pancake, or what we might call a crepe.
The hashbrowns were my least favourite, not much flavour and not crisp enough.
My sunnyside eggs were perfect!, the bacon and ham were great and the Bratwust was amazing. It
was full of flavour, so juicy with a perfect grill char. I loved it.
The dutch pancake was great, with a bit of a chew to it, I would like to try it plain with lemon and sugar next time.
Rainbowcrab had the french toast with egg and bacon. She really enjoyed it all.
We got a great amount of food and left full and satisfied.
We will go back.
