Please skip this review if you believe in the reality tv programs. However the paid out arrangment may be. This diner did a good con job to attract the dine in TV interview and the recent broadcast surged a wave of public interest. The truth remains this place is a poorly managed and run down diner. The glory days has long done and the present management has no clue nor has the desire to improve its image or its food quality.
The menu is very simple and yet the kitchen staff cannot produce even a marginal product such as eggs, bacon and even the bread. We ordered a regular campfire breakfast and a green salad and it took 1/2 hour (no exaggeration) to arrive our tabel. Although the waitress are running around like headless chicken, the owner just standing by the cash registrar looking more like a totem pole and doing nothing.The bacon was fatty, greasie and burnt. The butter on the bread not even spread evenly and the egg tasted it was made from egg powder. The salad is true to its wording and it is just a plain green salad.There were no colors, meaning tomato or other fruits and it was just plain. The price tag is $12 and you have to be senile to repeat this order. Another strange part of the service when we asked for a coffee refill. Instead to bring the coffee pot to the table, the waitress will give us two new cups of coffee and repeat the same. What a waste of effort and resources and I still try to figure out the logic of this process.
I suggest most customer has a mindset and prepare to venture to a "greasy spoon" eatery and to expect the food price is reasonable and in line with the setting. Not in this place when the food is totally unacceptable, poor service BUT you will be soaked with a 5 star $$$ restaurant price. I cannot remember when was the last time we have had such a bad experience in any eatery and including all the fast food chains.
Sadly the owner's world is his own oyster. So buyers beware that not everything you see on TV is true and I lost all the respect of the producer of the food show.
Heard alot of mixed reviews about the food/service here and decided to check it out. Well - I won't be coming back and WOULD NOT recommend to friends or anyone for that matter. The mushroom omelet ordered was so watery, that not only was the omelet soaked, but my toast was floating and seen paddling across my plate for higher ground. Wherever I've had breakfast,(let's count several countries for about 25 yrs) I don't order the hash browns, I ask for sliced tomato instead. NEVER have I been charged for the substitution and seeing as how our waitress didn't make any comment about it, the meal went on as usual. Until the bill came. They charged $3.25 for the sub. When I asked our server about it, she said that it was policy. When I brought it to the cashiers attention, his response was - tomatoes are more expensive than potatoes. Cry me a river! Then give me the equivalency in dollar value of tomato to potato and don't charge me extra. Granted he did take the amount off the bill, but $18 for an omelet and coffee is a bit steep. The service was OK, but nothing out of any ordinary. The wait for refills etc, was extended for counter service. We'll just write this off as a poor first time/last time.
Hadn't been to the Marina Grill in years. To my surprise it has improved tremendously. They finally painted the inside and removed the ugly carpet for something a lot nicer.
They are kid friendly now and when I asked the waitress she told me they are under new ownership.
Boy oh boy did the new owners ever do a nice job of the place. We use to come for the patio, now we are coming all the time because it is a nice place to eat.
Food was good, portions were plentiful and staff very friendly. Lots of high chairs and booster seats. Plus to my surprise they had crayons and colouring paper for my kids.
Hats off to the new owners. The change is great!
The food here is really, really good. All the burgers I've ever had here are excellent, and everyone I've ever brought here has loved the food.
I'd be more specific, but why bother? Order something - anything - you'll like it.
The beer selection is decent and varied - whatever you like, you're sure to find something that will please you.
However, the service is a little indifferent, and I suspect that is largely because they cannot hear their customers ordering or asking for anything. I've never been a place so damned loud. Ever. Even The District is a quieter restaurant than this place.
I often feel torn about coming here - the food is great, but your server will be either actually or willfully deaf, and the music is so loud they should be giving out Aspirin rather than Bazooka Joe gum and comics with the bill.

You aren't running a cavernous club - your restaurant is tiny - turn the music down so I can talk to my friends without resorting to playing charades or writing stuff on your napkins. If you did, I'd come back again. Right now, the music is the only reason I don't. I'm willing to put up with your indifferent/bored/possibly high as balls staff if it means I can talk with my friends over dinner.
The food here is good - try the burgers, they're really good. Everything I've tried here has been really good so far.
Our server this time was very knowledgeable about the beers they had on offer and helped me and a friend pick a good one. He also brought us all a new drink they were experimenting with for summer. It was really tasty (and I love it when places do that, it probably costs them very little, but it scores big brownie points).
The service last time I was here was extremely rude (our server became visibly upset and snotty when my husband ordered fruit juice rather than beer - there was practically a thought bubble over her head that said, "There goes my tip, you cheap jackhole." - and she was right, her snotty attitude got her a low tip).
Anyway, service is hit and miss, this time it was awesome. Time before that, not so much.
Be prepared to shout at each other over your food. It's loud in there - the music is generally pretty decent, but it's far too loud - and the tables are not that wide, so there should never be a need to shout at anyone you're sitting with.
It didn't help that we were seated at the communal bench table in the back under a non-existent light - fully half our party was seated in the dark. Not cool.
I decided to try haru on Lonsdale, wasn't too busy after 2pm and service was quick & personable. I ordered their Salmon nigiri, futomaki roll and dynamite roll. The Salmon Nigiri, was amazing, melted in my mouth and had to order more of the salmon. I thought the futomaki and dynamite both had great taste, flavour and they didn't fall apart. I was amazed how good the food was, and I won't wait another year to return.
The price wasn't all that bad either, and like how the service was friendly and quick.
Will be back.
I went to Zeitoon with a few friends and ended up ordering the Grilled Chicken Skewer and Beef Kabob. I customized my rice order from plain rice to Zeresh Polow (Basmati rice with Saffron and Barberries). I also ordered the persian yogurt drink with mint (Doogh). It was a bit of a wait to get the orders prepared as it is made to order, but it was well worth it.
The food was absolutely delicious. The chicken and beef kabob had very good flavour and seasoning, all the ingredients tasted fresh. The meat was tender and juicy, and was grilled perfectly. The bread was fresh from the oven and the Saffron rice with barberries was excellent.
Overall, this is a nice spot to dine-in. It is a little on the pricier side but you do get nice portions that hit the spot. It was busy when I went, so sometimes it was hard to get the hostess attention. Will definitely visit again.
Pier7, a gorgeous little restaurant right on the water. Same owners as the Lobby at the Pinnacle Hotel.
In terms of ambiance, the restaurant is extremely beautiful, massive 2nd floor patio, uniforms are great, staff is welcoming and friendly. But unfortunately, no pun intended, it's not a hotel lobby, it's a restaurant.
I was there last week for a business lunch. I ordered the Tuna Club, colleague ordered the burger. 18$ is quite a bit for a sandwich and fries especially when they forget the bacon and the fries are undercooked.
In terms of drinks, you're looking at $8 for an import bottle and the cocktail list runs from 8-14 for a drink. I'm sorry a single drink even if its 1.5 or a double should not cost what a bottle of wine costs at home, unless you're into top shelf premium spirits or aged single malt scotch.
To be fair the place is just getting started and it shows. There were a lot of staff including the Chef cruising around while there were some shabby plates leaving the kitchen (not just my own). The menu isn't completely copycat Vancouver chain food, its got some interest, but its not groundbreaking.
If you have lots of cash, and want to have a quick drink, and maybe a snack on a nice sunny day this is the place...otherwise the quality and value will leave you a bit high and dry.
Trying my best not to be biased from the excessively steep price, I'd have to say this was a somewhat unpleasant experience in terms of atmosphere and food. The view is spectacular. I was fortunate enough to arrive just after the clouds cleared up to get a panoramic view of the city. Absolutely mesmerizing to be dining with a mountain top view. However the food was bland. I actually enjoyed the complimentary bread and butter more than any of the appies or entrees. Food-wise, not worth the money or even half of it in my opinion. The atmosphere inside the restaurant itself is what mainly contributed to my unpleasant experience. There are only about roughly 8 tables (give or take a couple) in the restaurant that I can call to mind in a very dim and quiet atmosphere. The tables are not spaced very far from each other and I felt that I had to whisper as every word I said can be heard from the next. The server tends to stand around as if he's on call and ready to take your order. Again, this is a very small restaurant so it almost feels like he's eavesdropping. I understand that this is not his intention but a little space please.
The view doesn't get much better than this but that's about it.
Food to die for, no doubt. Service great. But overshadowed by sound---too loud too noisy. Can't hear the person next to you, and not comfortable. Needs sound dampening big time. So sorry, neighborhood restaurant, husband will not return. Want to go again, please help us out. All food items for the 4 of us so good. No advertising yet and place packed.
This is a really good Japanese restaurant. Very inviting interior, great oriental knickknacks, and the freshest sushi I have been able to find. Amazing fresh. Quizzed the waitress and she agreed that everything is straight from airport from Japan. It is a tad expensive, but the quality is there. Try the house Roll, it's amazing. We drive out from Vancouver and glad we were to eat sushi here. Definatley worth the drive or if you are driving through. Service is typical Asian of course. This isn't like Keg but the roll is yummy.
Delightful dinner in a cozy atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgable service - smart wine list with a generous glass at a decent price. Food was marvellous - tandoori Alaska Black cod (sable fish) absolutely delicious ... who knew! Excellent lamb curry and generous servings of really good Indian food. We will be back to check out the rest of the menu.
I've gone here twice and found this location doesn't seem to be very prepared or organized in what they offer. If I see their menu, and they listed their meats or chicken, they should either have it or do what other location, list the food choices for the day. Each time I've tried to order their mediterranean chicken and their streak, and they didn't make it, due to not having the spices or ingredients...What's with that???
I have tried their roast beef sub, and you can add any topping you would like to have, for me it was lettuce, onions and mushrooms. They do offer spinach with avacado, but it wasn't either made or available..so again they need to decide what they should offer for the day..and provide the choices that are available...I went with Dijon mustard with my cabratta bun and was made. The location doesn't have alot of seating, so be prepared to take your sub or wrap to go.
The actual sub was good, the meat on both times, had lots of flavour and everything complimented one another. The sub came on cutting board, as I think they're trying to resemble some other new sandwiches place. I was definately full on both visit, but unless they offer what's on the menu, and the owner can train her staff better, this place could be a hit.
I only wish they would have what they say and not here what's not available..they need to work on that.
I will try them one more time in the coming months, and I hope they improve soon.
Tried this restaurant twice for lunch and had some mixed results. It's on a side street, about 1/2 block in from Lonsdale. More of a delivery and take out place rather a sit down place but they do have some small tables. First tried their lamb platter. Basically minced lamb over rice with some hummus, salad and pita. Pretty tasty lamb and well seasoned rice. Hummus was average. 2nd time tried the same platter but with chicken and the chicken seem to be shredded and very dry. Not like the chicken they carve from a roasting pole at other donair places but it was already in a tray. Would avoid the chicken. Cost is average at under $8. Service was quick and cheerful. Would only go back for the lamb. They have pizza and other items as well.
Gorgeous views, excellent food, spot on service. We had a wonderful night here, I had the gnocchi and my partner had the sable fish. Both amazing dishes paired with delicious wine. We were lucky to get a bit of sun by sitting out on the patio and to enjoy the view. Definitely a must try! I know we will be back for more!
Lonsdale has a huge selection of sushi restuarants but I usually go to this one because the food is great and the prices are good. I usually get take out because the dine-in experience is less than favourable. The restuarant seems dirty, the tables are often sticky and the place is loud and has a frantic feel. I'm usually not there on the weekend around peak dining hours but since this place has such good deals, it's often busy up until about 8pm. As well, the service is poor and the servers are rude so it's another reason to avoid dining in!
We went on a Saturday and the restaurant was pretty full but managed to get a wonderful table on the patio without reservations! The sun was just starting to go down but managed to glare down on us pretty strong. (although most tables weren't effected by the glare, and I was able to move my chair over from our table to help the problem, more shade umbrellas would have be nice / or bring sunglasses if you want to sit outside)
Service was fast and friendly, and the food was very fresh and not disappointing.
We ordered four appetizers (seared Tuna, asparagus, caesar salad and fries). The Tuna was melt in your mouth yummy and uniquely paired with grapefruit (maybe a bit thicker slices would have made me given it a 4 instead of 3). The fries 'looked' ordinary but were not greasy or overcooked like many restaurants, very tasty and nicely seasoned. The romaine was young and crisp with just the right amount of dressing and shaved parmesan (I hate soggy caesars). The asparagus was also fresh not overcooked and tasty too...although I felt it was lacking something to make me want to try it again.
Looking forward to going back.
We stayed in the Lonsdale area for a business trip and went to Pier 7 restaurant for dinner with our group. The atmosphere and views were great but the food was a big let down.
We started Our dinner with the seafood nachos which were nothing more then bagged taco chips with cheddar cheese, thawed shrimp, and pieces some sort of unidentified fish. These came with salsa and what seemed to be a side of ranch dip. The cheese was not fully melted and overall they lacked flavor, and seemed to be slapped together. Very disappointing for $20.
We also asked for an order of the steamed mussels and were told that they had run out of mussels and only had clams, which we settled for. They were just o.k. and came in a flavorless chili and lime seasoning.
Our next dish was the seafood chowder in a red base. The soup was flavorless and watery, with small bits of seafood. This seemed like something that had been reheated from Costco and for almost $ 10 per bowl I expected better quality.
Lastly we had the lobster macaroni and cheese. This dish was about as good as the nachos. It consisted of undercooked pasta and watery cheese sauce, with small chunks of mystery fish.
Save your money on this place and stay away. It looks cool inside but the food was a total let down. We had much better food at the lounge in the Pinnacle hotel, and for a quarter of the price during happy hour.
I've only tried the plain donuts here once but I left very disappointed. I have a sweet tooth and so it's not often that someone screws up a dessert for me. After brunch at the Arms Reach Bistro this spring, I decided to stop at this place for a treat, as I had read that this is one of the top attractions of Deep Cove.
I find it hard to describe the donuts because they lacked any flavor. I find donuts from major grocery stores to be mediocre (dry and too sweet), but these might rank even lower. I can only hope that I had a bad batch, because I don't understand the hype about this place.
I initially came for the weekend brunch based on positive reviews I had read online and wasn't disappointed. The eggs benny with smoked salmon is the best I've ever had. I recently went for lunch here over the May long weekend and despite crowds of tourists we managed to get a table right away and had a very pleasant lunch experience. I had the stinky burger with fries which was delicious. During both my visits, I got the impression that the chefs really pay attention to the food they make and that the ingredients they use, unlike the run-of-the-mill franchises.
Combined with a stroll around beautiful Deep Cove before and after the meal, it's totally worth driving to this place.
