Yama Sushi offers a large variety of sushi, sashimi, noodles, combos and more for eat in or take out.
Mrs. C and I were in the LV area and we craved sushi. I remembered bc's review of this place so we decided to check it out. The interior was somewhat small and crappy and could be a bit cleaner, but the food prep area looked clean, so we decided to try our luck. There were 2 Korean guys making sushi as fast as lightning, so I would say the place was busy. We ordered a variety of roll sushi, including beef teriyaki, Cali roll, and the Yama Famous Roll, which was basically eel and egg. We also tried the eel and cucumber roll which was cheaper and had better flavour than its more famous cousin. We added an order of gyoza to round out the meal. The sushi and the gyoza were well-prepared and tasted fine.
Service was dead slow at the beginning of the meal, but a new server took over about halfway through and she was quite speedy and courteous. Despite the twin dragons battling on the sushi mat, orders were really backed up due to the volume of takeout. This place is not a good choice for people in a hurry. As for value, it was a good deal, but you won’t shout “Wow!” or anything when you get the bill.
Next time I will probably get a takeout order.
I was in Lynn Valley, when I wanted Sushi for Lunch and decided to try this location.
Its not a large place, seating is limited with cheap chairs that were uncomfortable. This is why I noticed alot of people ordering take out. I decided to try the Chicken Teriyaki bento box that came with tempera, salad, rice and chicken. I added 2 salmon nigiri to my order and everything arrived quickly.
The Chicken Teriyaki was very good & even the tempera had a light batter, and they gave me rice that was done right. I loved the salmon nigiri, fresh, lots of flavour and complimented my meal.
My lunch was under $10.00, food arrived quickly and the next time I'm in Lynn Valley, I will have to come back to order to go.
This is definitely a favourite place to go when looking for sushi at a reasonable price close to home. The tempura is quite good, and the rolls are well made. The rice bowls are really hit or miss. I often get the teriyaki chicken rice bowl and when it's good, it's really good - but when it's bad, well it gets hard to finish. Overall it's a great restaurant with many more positives than negatives. Often is really busy at lunch time due to Argyle Secondary which is nearby so I'd recommend takeout.
I've been going to this spot for years and finally had to put up a review. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! They never disappoint in quality and service, and the one time where the forgot my order, they let me get the same thing the next time for free. Their takoyaki and gyoza are decadent, the only thing that could use some improvement is the miso soup which is a bit on the weak side. Definitely take out, there isn't much room, and it's very busy if you do eat there. I would recommend this to anyone, perfect for a hot summer day picnic =)
There are many sushi places in Lynn Valley. They're all quite close together, so the choices are abundant. However, Yama Sushi definitely tops all of the other sushi joints in this area.
Great! I've ordered a fair amount of their food: from the bento boxes, lunch specials, maki rolls, appetizers and sashimi: they're all consistently delicious. I have yet to have a bad experience with this place. In my opinion, the best would be their BC Roll... it's amazing. The bento boxes are a great deal.. however, they vary with taste from time to time. They probably premake the bentos and hence why at times it's cold for the tempura and the chicken. The salad with it is kind of pointless, but the dressing is tangy and delicious. For the value, it's quite good. You'll see what I mean if you drop by!
AMAZING. This restaurant never fails to make me WANT to keep coming back. The waitresses are always so cheery and happy, never rude or snappy like some other sushi joints I've been to. The sushi chefs are there and you can watch them make the sushi: but the best part is that they're all so welcoming. I feel that their welcoming nature makes the restaurant even more of a pleasure to go to.
As I said, the price for the food is great and you never have to worry about blowing your wallet. For example, for a dinner for four with three different bento boxes and one sushi special and a few rolls: the most I've ever had to pay was $32. It's great.
The place is really small and cramped, but on the walls are cute Japanese decor... However, the best part about it is the bulletin board with the pictures of their customers. It's sweet and cute. The only problem is that it's always busy - understandably, with great value of food and awesome service.
This is definitely one of my favourite spots to hit for sushi!
