Dirty Place and Poor Food Handling
By cyberspace of vancouver (56 Reviews)

Went to Vera's on weekend. They were closing in hour or so. They told us that the grill was not available so could not get saulted onions or mushrooms or grilled chicken burger. They were using the dirty rag to clean the counters and using the same rag to clean their hands and cook our food. I was not impressed at all. This place needs help and are not interested in the bussiness. Very disappointed and will not go back. They were interested in watching the BC Lions game. Food was not that great.

went to the Vera's in North Van and had stopped going for poor quality. The new owners were amazing and the place with its sports on the three or four televisions made the visit not only fun but interesting as there were different games on each TV. The food was top notch and service was excellent. We ordered the Canuck burger and we were not only served at our table but asked how it was. We felt like we were at a restaurant/pub as we never had to leave the table at any time. I will be back,

Thanks to Lynn and Brian, proud new owners of my favorite burger joint, Vera's on Lonsdale, North Vancouver, we can now sit in clean comfort within a newly-renovated much-improved environment, chowing down on my favorite Veggie extra cool works combo, while chatting with the ever-friendly staff and owners. They certainly are proud of their new digs, and obviously the staff are really happy about working there. Each time I come in (I am a shameless regular, so much so that the staff know what to make for me the moment I walk through their door) I FREQUENTLY bring in friends so that they can some day become inveterate regulars too. Staff are always very friendly, professional and happy, greeting everyone who comes in like they are old friends.
I will only go to my Lonsdale Vera's burger for my veggie burgers, and believe me, I've been all over Vancouver and North Shore looking for the best veggie. These guys here are the only ones who know just how much fixins to put in the burger, even compared to other Vera's in Vancouver! Therefore, this is the only place that provides me with what I want. And they can count on me to keep coming there, to dine in or take out.
My companion enjoyed her natural burger, also cool works, and agreed that this was the premier place, making the best burgers around the lower mainland.
So, folks, come in and try the new digs, fixed up like a little diner.
Chomp down on the best burgers in this area whether you're a carnivore or a veg...
bon appetit!!!!!!

Yummy burgers, messy place

People are complaining that their burgers are fattening, greasy, messy, heart-stoppers, hell ya! Their burgers are great. That is if you can get past the greasy- messy seats, windows and floors. Also all three of out orders were wrong, not that big of a deal things like tomatoes when we asked for non and missing mushrooms (their mushrooms are very good btw) I think that they have taken the name "Shack" a little to seriously, this place was as messy as it's employees. Would I go back yes,but not to this location as people usually get spooked when they see a dirty place, I will try one DT. As for takeout service never used it but the burger is a bit greasy so I would think it might be wet if you waited to eat it at home.

New Location

I was thrilled to see Vera's Burger on Lonsdale, and decided to check it out.

I was greeted at the counter by a very friendly server, who helped me with my order. I decided on nothing fancy, simple & easy, cheese burger with pop, and was told it would take about 10 minutes.
Seating is limited at this location, I got the impression, this location will be doing alot take out orders.
My server called out my name, and sat down to enjoy my cheese burger. It was a bit uneven when they put my burget together, but as long as it was cooked, fresh and tasted great, which it did, was all worth it. My burget was juicy, tasted great and glad to see another location, especially in North Vancouver. Cost of my burger & beverage was under $9.00.

Recommend, when you're wanting fresh burgers.

Need some fixing

Tried this location out a few weeks back, and was not overly impressed. The whole location need a serious cleaning and touch up. The vent hood was not working properly so smoke from the grill was not being vented properly.
The chairs they had for the patio area were awful but it was the only place to sit that day. The napkin dispensers were empty and you need extra napkins eating the burger.

I ordered a burger with the works that included hot peppers. My fault with the hot peppers on it, that was all I could really taste. It very juciy with lots of topping but once again with all the other toppings I could not taste the patty. The fries were ok.

Overpriced, way to greasy.

Now, when you go to a place like this, you expect greasy food. Well, you don't expect it to literally be soaked in grease. The fries, (which I got about a third of what everyone else got) were basically mashed potatoes in a slightly more convient mode. They had no flavour, except old canola oil, and were not worth eating at all.

I got a four cheese burger with bacon, which was decent (the bacon). The cheeses were yummy, but the beef patty was no way the advertised 6oz, and was also way to greasy. I ordered it with Ketchup Mayo Mustard Lettuce Tomato and Onion. I got it with Mustard Lettuce Tomato Onion and Pickle.

I got a diet coke, which was totally lacking in syrup, and when I told them, they said they'd fix it. They didn't.

The restaurant itself was utterly filthy, smelled kind of weird, and had a bunch of losers hanging out not eating, and completely distracting the employees. All two of them. None of which were managers, just employees who had no fucking clue what they were doing. One stated she had worked there for a year and a half, but had no idea how to change the ketchup, which had been empty since I got there.

I went with two of my friends, one who got a chili dog (he seemed content with it) and a milkshake. They didn't have chocolate, naturally. My other friend I was with got a vera burger. They screwed up his condiments too.

Some random woman who was there complained about wrong condiments too.

I'm never going there again. I might call the health department to do a surprise investigation. (They jump at that, it's quite fun)

We love Hamburgers once in awhile and after having been to the Vera's on Davie Street thought while we were in N Van why not give this location a shot.
Before I get along on this review I have to say this location on Lonsdale doesn't hold a prayer to the one on Davie. Davie location has pictures of the BIG burger club, and people who have eaten the BIG burger etc etc and a lot more pizazz than the bleak bare Lonsdale location.

Now onto the review:
we have to this point been to the Lonsdale location twice and this past visit prompted me to write this review.
The service this last time in was awful,,,,the kid on the register didn't have a clue what he was doing and had the order so screwed up it was unbelieveable. I would say that training is non existant if at all,,,or they hire people who can't count or add.

The food was so greasy,,,I mean the burgers are okay, pink and juicy but not the same as the Davie location, the fries are SOOOO greasy,,,really bad!

The seating is okay if its not busy but we were there with my 72 yr old mother in law and there was this one guy who was sitting at a booth for 4 all alone and he didn't have the courtesy to get up and sit at the counter near the window while my mother in law had to try and negotiate the climb onto the high stools.

I don't know why theres so much difference in Vera's burgers outlets...this one obviously needs some work to get up to speed of its flagship!

We won't be back to this location after this last espisode,,,
It's Davie Street or nothing!

I definitely recommend Vera's...she was too far away in West Van so i was glad to see the North Van opening a branch. I recently visited VS with my family and ordered what turned out to be a delicous lamb burger and sweet potato fries...great price, friendly service and i even liked the old fashioned booths. I have no complaints at all and am very glad that Vera's has come to Lonsdale!

I blame the 12 year old manager

I went to Vera's thinking it would be a nice yummy treat. I read on the website they had won all these awards and thought I might have found a gem. Hmm, well in theory it could have been.

FOOD: The burger was tasty and so stuffed with goodies I couldn't fit it in my mouth. I had to remove some of the tomatoes etc just to get a bit of burger that was bun to bun. I got paranoid though because the burger was a bit too pink. The onion rings were greasy disgusting things and the batter tasted 'off'. The fries were alright but not special. The sizes were massive so if you go just get one burger made a meal.

SERVICE: I do not blame the nice kid at the counter but instead the trainer who obviously didn't do his job by training the poor guy. I ordered
- a vera burger with the works minus the hot sauce and peppers
- and made that a meal with onion rings in place of fries (you have a choice! YUM)
I also ordered
- a pawer burger combo for my friend and made his a meal also.
The poor kid got confused by this so I repeated it again. After the fourth go round he read it back to me and he seemed tohave it all right except I wanted both burgers made into a meal and no extra basket of fries. The bill ended up 27 bux and I asked for the receipt to check why. He ended up making both burgers a meal, both with onion rings in place of fries and adding an extra basket of fries. We went back over the order and he refunded us the 4 bucks for the fries. Our burgers came out and our baskets of grease to follow. They then came by with an extra basket of fries of which I sent back because we didn't pay for it.

VALUE: Not bad if you just order a burger and make one person's a meal (huge baskets of food)

AMBIANCE: Crowded and the tables were dirty.

McDonald's would have been better, faster & cheaper

I went to the new Vera's with high-hopes after having many great burgers at the downtown location! But what a massive FAIL the North Van Vera's is.

Not only were they out of everything from Tomatos to French Fries, they were slow (not even busy), every customer's order got mixed up while we were there (including ours), and the staff were clueless. But worst of all, my $15 meal consisted of one bland, dry, over-cooked hamburger, 6 onion rings and a coke. Fifteen dollars for that?!

I definately hope they can turn it around...the Vera's downtown is amazing. But I could have gone to McDonalds for a better, faster burger for half the price. Yes, that's actually how sad it was.
