Went there 4 lunch yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with the new decor. They have moved from the old location at the corner of chesterfield to the new digs down the block. Disappointed that they didn't have their weekend lunch buffet anymore but they have a new set brunch menu for $9 which was very good.Ordered chicken satay and beef ribs for the appetizers and stir fry chicken and vegetables for the entrees.Meals also includes a plate of pad thai and some salad. Also ordered a large bowl of tom yum soup which was tasty albeit a tad too small for $13.Nevertheless,very satisfying. Will definitely come back again if in the neighbourhood.
I've always enjoyed the offerings at Thai House and my experience here was no exception. The chicken and creamy curry sauce with veggies was flavourful and satisfying. The service was very good. And the surroundings, full of exotic decor, adds greatly to the dining experience.
I see that they have moved to a nearby location since the time I ate here but I am certain that the new version is well worth checking out.
My wife and I went to here, and it was one of the most frustrating, maddening culinary experiences!! First, when one of the surly waiters (all of them seemed to have bad attitudes) was told by my wife that the food he brought wasn't what we ordered, he rolled his eyes and stormed off!! I then went off to the washroom (which was really dirty) while my wife settled the bill. Upon paying, she was stopped by the same waiter who demaned a bigger tip!! My wife then explained why he wasn't getting a big tip, to which he replied that he didn't care and that she was in the wrong for being upset with his bad behaviour, which, according to him, was perfectly acceptable! My wife then asked to see the manager who amazingly didn't seem to think that eye-rolling and storming off were examples of bad restaurant service. When I politiely confronted him, he rudely re-stated his position to me and essentially dismissed all of us. This was one of the worst restaurants we've ever been to. The awful table service accompanied by the general "we're doing you a favour by giving you an all-you-can-eat buffet" attitude, plus greasy, cheap, barely recognizable Thai food, made for a totally unpleasant start to our afternoon.
I LOVE this thai restaurant. The pad thai and panang curry are delicious, and I always try new things which are as good as the last dish. It's got a very clean modern feel and the ambiance is lovely, especially compared to other Thai places. The one negative would be the portion sizes... I find that there are usually little in the way of leftovers after a fairly expensive meal, which I'm used to having at other similar restaurants. If that changed, I'd eat here every week and spend far more $$ on them!! *hint hint*
Sometime ago, I decided to do take out. I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp. At over $10 for a pad thai takeout it wasn't cheap.
The worst part about it is when I ate the pad thai. Simply disgusting. The rice noodles felt as if they were fried with tomato ketchup squelched out from a bottle. To add more insult, the 'shrimps" were thawed and frost-bitten little tiny prawns probably bought at some cheap wholesaler or megamarket. What does frost-bitten tiny prawns look like ? well, they look white, taste soft (not tender) and whiter still though coated with red tomato ketchup. They have no taste when you eat them, except the tomato ketchup. Even McDonalds fries with ketchup taste better.
Best Thai food ? Not my experience.
I recently dined here twice and both times it was well worth it. My first visit with my daughter we ordered two dishes plus rice, and I had enough left over to take home for a decent sized meal the next day. We ordered a Pad Thai and a chicken curry bowl and they were both delicious, and delivered fast! The service was attentive and friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Compared to other ethnic restaurants in North Vancouver I would say it is good value for the money considering the food quality is high.
I have been to other locations of Thai House and really enjoyed the experience, but at this location the service was a let down.
I bought an Entertainment Guide book for a fundraiser - the stipulations were straight forward and I always double-check them before I head into a restaurant - they would not accept it because it was Easter Weekend. I let this one go and tried it again another night.
The other night my boyfriend and I went to eat a nice dinner out (no coupons this time!). They sat us down and then told us we could only have the table for an hour. I don't think so... It'd be fine if it was cheap, but you don't get out of this restaurant for under $50 a couple - I want to enjoy my food and not have a time limit. We left and went to the very fantastic restaurant down the road - Burgoo.
One thing... I have gone to the restaurant before these bad experiences and their food is high quality and fresh. Atmosphere is enjoyable.
Everytime I go there it seems like I need to put up with one sort of abuse or another by the servers. Last time after we ate and I ordered a take out and of course paid for it on the same bill and left the premise. Not long after I saw one of the servers yelling and running after me. Embarrasing, shocking..
Nice if they had checked before running after me this was two weeks ago.
And now this week: They mixed up my order, the first server took the wrong order and the second one came yelling and shoving the wrong dish at my face saying this is what you ordered. Well I think I know what I ordered.
I think I am running out of patience and grace dealing with the service at this Thai resutaurant. Would not go back even if they server me gold there, not worth it..
Too much drama in that restaurant for my taste..
Live on the North Shore so one of the restaurants I used to go to was the Thai House but it was closed for awhile and relocated this year. Friends told me to try it out but didn't have time until now as we spend most of our time in Vancouver. Highly recommend visiting the new location. The menu is revamped like the decor and there's more to choose from even. Stuck with our fave curries as they are always amazing, and again, did not disappoint at all. The server was very friendly and told us about curry packets that the restaurant sells for customers to take home. What a great concept and we bought several flavours to make at home when we don't feel like going out. Curry to go... will be back for sure to try other menu items after we get over our curry fixes but hey, why mess with a good thing. Their curry is the best in town.
We brought our baby to this restaurant, and we were put in the darkest, most unpleasant table ever. When we asked if we could sit by the window, the waiter was horrendously rude to us. He told us our stroller would be in the way when there was so much space there. Then when our baby made some small noises (I am serious, small noises), the waiter shushed at her angrily and scared her. When told she was afraid of strangers, he continued to harrass her. The food was okay, but when my father paid for our meal, the waiter had the audacity to call him back and tell him he didn't give enough tips. He didn't deserve any tips, for his horrendous service! I can't believe how rude he was the whole time. I've never been to a worse restaurant. Don't ever go there! Especially if you have a child!
Wonderful food for the price, especially for take-out. The beef lettuce wrap is excellent, along with the green and yellow curries.
Always quick service, though dining in the resturant in the summer can be a bit warm, thus the lower ambiance rating. Great place for a great price.
The food comes quickly-which makes the restaurant a great place to go for a business lunch. I'm not a huge eater, so I find the inexpensive lunch specials fine-soup, eggroll, curry and rice.
Having had dinner there three times over the past 18 months, I will not go again. Each time, our conversation was constantly interrupted by the wait staff. We were eating well within the restaurant hours, had barely sat down and the place had ample seating available. Yet, we all got the sense the staff wanted us to hurry up, finish our meal and go. "You done yet?" kind of feeling. (Maybe they were more used to fast fork lunch crowd.)
Food quality is fine, atmosphere OK (yes, did used to be a Harvest House and still carries that atmosphere) lunch wait staff pleasant-just stay away if you want a relaxed dinner with friends.
i came with my friends the other day and ordered a few famous thai dishes, Pad Thai- made with ketchup never seen that before in thailand and by the way i'm thai!! tom yum prawn soup in a tiny bowl enough to serve half a person, the taste is really different and wrong (with one prawn,?) the waiter was okay but need to work on the face, "smile a bit more it won't kill you."
