Me and my friends went to have dinner there for my friends birthday. It was so so poor service and food, let me tell you about it.
First when we got there, the hostess said "Go there" and pointed to a seat instead of bring us to our seats with menus. That was not a good start.
We got appitezers which were good, but we got no small plates for them. This was getting stupid already.
Then, we did not get our menus after 20 minutes. Except there was no menu. We got a piece of paper instead. It had 3 choices of what we wanted to eat. Though it did not say what was in it. I had no idea what was in them, so I didn't care what I had(unless it had garlic or onions in it wich thankfully, it didn't). The hostess said that we had to write what we wanted, what drink, and if we wanted salads or half and half. I had no idea what drinks or salads it had, and no idea what is half and half. One of my friends in the end had to ask. We got our food in a hour. We started to eat, but my and my friends plate were cold. Very poor food.
Then a guy wanted to play music, but before that, I told him about my friends Bday. He said" Congratolations Nick." and then played music. We couldn't believe it. 2 hours later, we got dessert and THEN the guy played Happy Birthday on the piano. I could tell it was the Iranian version. The thing was, he just played, he did not use words. For these reasons, Persipolis is the worst restaurant ever.
I went there last night with a group of 12 friends. When we got there, the restaurant looked really nice, great atmosphere, and looked really promising. As the night went on (and a few tables were filled) the service went downwards fast. At the end it felt like we were on some comedy or hidden camera show. Some of the ladies ordered a starter and none of them were very impressed. In fact, after eating some of their food they decided against ordering a main course. My dinner eventually came (it took a long time but I'm willing to overlook that as there were a lot of us there), and it was very very mediocre. I had the prawn kebab, which came with rice (lots of boiled rice, no taste at all), a potato (which very well could have been heated up from the night before) and a small salad. No consistency, as my friend ordered the same meal and got a small garden salad.
Half way through dinner they must have opened a kitchen door as there was a very cold (December) draft coming through. We asked if it could be closed, and it was for 15 minutes and then reopened. So we sat there with our outdoor jackets on...
Anyhow, much of the menu that is online is not in fact offered. Many meals had a strip of paper stuck over the menu item. And even the wine we wanted was out of stock. I wasn't offered another drink after my first glass, and when I eventually was (at the end of dinner), I was given the wine list and never saw my waitress again! 45 minutes later, we all got up to go to the bar in order to request our bills! It truly was a complete joke... My friend who organized the location was so apologetic. Still had fun being out with the group, but I honestly have to say that was the worst dining experience ever. I've never left a review of a restaurant before, even bad ones, but this time I just had to say something...
We love Mediterranean and Indain food and had never had Persian food so didn't know what to expect when we were pleasantly surprised by Persepolis. We just came upon it looking for a place in North Vancouver to eat dinner. We had some of the best appetizers I've ever had, an eggplant dip that was excellent, I want the recipe! My husband had the Sirloin beef kebab which was a nice blending of the saffron and onion marinade. I had the beef stew with rice with fresh herbs and was very impressed as the meat was tender and well seasoned. The restaurant is chic and modern yet cozy and on a Saturday night, busy with live persian music which was also new to us. The service was great and charming.
We had our daughter's Engagement party on July 10, 2011 at Persepolis. The head person, Katie, understood our needs and importance of this events. She not only looked after our guest, but also went beyond the call of duty to make sure the guest were completely satisfied and having a good time, specially the newly weds to be, Overall everyone was talking about how successful the event was. We will definitely be having our future parties at Persepolis restaurant. The food was exceptional.
Thank you Katie for making this event the highlight of my daughter's future wedding.

I visited the restaurant for the first time with my wife and friends. We were immediately greeted with great warmth and friendliness. Our server, Katie, was very professional and proceeded to explain all the dishes on the menu. I normally make my own choices but in this case, we all went with her recommendations. We started with a sampler of two eggplant and two yoghurt dips served with pieces of pita bread. They were absolutely delicious and were more than adequate as an appetizer for four people. We then had a pair of sampler entrees for two people comprising three kebabs - chicken, beef and ground beef - served with saffron basmati rice, a salad and a choice of one of the two yoghurt dips for dressing. The sticks had been removed from the kebabs, making them easy to cut and share. The chicken was soft, moist and succelent with the obvious taste one gets from barbecued meat. The beef kebab came in strips and melted in one's mouth. The ground beef kebab had an exotic taste associated with eastern herbs. The rice was a perfect pairing for the meat. I am not a fan of salad but enjoyed the one I was given. We each had a glass of bubbly which rounded off a perfect meal. It was our first time and we shall return.
Me and my fiance were driving down the Londsdale the other day and the big sign PERSELOLIS RESTAURANT & LOUNGE so we decided to try it as we have many persian friends, we were interested what is this restaurant like. We were impressed right when we walked in, the ambiance suppriced me to be honest. It was wednesday evening so the restaurant was not that crowded which we really prefered as we were told it s packed each weekend. We highly appreciated the romantic, family atmosphere. We tried eggplant dipp first followed by chicken and sirloin Kebab. It was just delicious! We LOVED the food. Our server was very sweet and kind. Recommended us great bottle of wine and we shared just unforgetable moment after a long time. We had blessed! We ascaped at least for hour from everyday rush. After all the bill was around $50 which was reasonable. I m going to recommend this place for all my co-workers and friends. Sweet experience!
Persepolis was the local restaurant of choice for 15 of us to dine at for a friends birthday. None of us had been there before and we were excited to try a new restaurant in our backyards! When we arrived we were very pleased with the ambiance of the place. The updates and fire place were beatiful and the dance floor gave the place tons of potential for a great event location.
Unfortunately, they were totally unprepared for a party of 15 (with reservations)...even though there were only 2 other small tables full. The service was friendly (at first) but incredibly slow and unprofessional. It took almost two hours for our mediocre meals, all of which came out at different times. When the first three people were eating their dinners, our waitress informed the four people that ordered the prawn kebabs that they didn't actually have prawns and we needed to make alternate orders.
Really?
Over an hour after we ordered?
And three people were eating already?
After all of that, our food eventually arrived. It was ok. Our bills then arrived and we were paying full price. Our server and her manager were not willing to give us any compensation for the crappy evening that they had provided.
So much potential. Very unfortunate. Big mistake.
Go to Persepolis if you would like mediocre persian cuisine that is overpriced and you enjoy bad customer service.
I go to persepolis often as it is a great family friendly restaurant as it pleases everyone from my kids to my in-laws. Their appetizers such as their chicken wings and dips are a hit among everyone and their kebabs are huge portions- perfect to pack up for leftovers for lunch. We also love the chocolate lava cake!
A great friendly atmosphere and yummy food.
Me and my wife reside downtown but every saturday night, we find ourselves crossing the bridge to explore a new restaurant for a new dining experience. Our persian friends told us about Persepolis being the number one rated persian restaurant on the north shore but they told us that they also serve french, italian and other mediterranean fusion dishes. The ambiance and decor was lively and warm (we especially liked the upscale lounge-great for canucks games). The music really set the tone for the evening and gave an overall romantic feel to our dinner. The menu was vast with many options that were all true to their name (cuisine du soleil). We had the Aubergine to start and I had the Wild Salmon while my wife had the Chicken kebab. The salmon was fresh and light and the chicken was flavourful and juicy. Being a fine dining restaurant, their dinner prices, unlike their lunch ones, are a little more pricier but i found the value outstanding as they were very generous with the goat cheese on the Aubergine, the size of my Sockeye salmon was filling and my wife even had to take half of her chicken home in a doggy bag. Our server was friendly too.
I'm surprised to read these negative reviews as we had a great experience so I advise you to try it for yourself!
Where to start....? I'm not sure what is the best aspect of this suburban dump.
The $30 minimum charge should have been a red flag when we walked in, but the warm and fuzzy fire pit in the center of the lounge distracted my eye for a minute. If a partially updated 1970's steak lounge was the intended goal, Persepolis had earned a gold medal in my eye! I was eager to see what kind of heavenly food was available in the heart our Persian community.
We actually waited 2 hours (not kidding) for a few simple dishes. Small, undercooked kebabs, lhe amest excuse for a bocconcini salad I've ever seen (spreadable goat cheese), a $13 miso soup bowl sized caesar salad, mussels full of sand (Hahaha!), food swimming in oil, and an utterly overwhelmed wait staff. The night was a stuffed-full talent display for neighbourhood belly dancers who were forced to share the make shift dance floor with the emerging wait staff streaming from the kitchen at the rear of the "stage". This fondly reminded me of scenes from a 3rd world traffic intersection.
Waitresses ducking twirling ladies and twirling ladies sliding on spilt food made for a mild distraction to the burning hole in my stomach from the ridiculous wait for our meals! Vaudeville, SIapstick, AND Belly Dancing! I wish there was comedy category, because this alone would have earned the restaurant at least 3 stars! How this restaurant can stay open longer than a fortnight will baffle me for weeks to come. Perhaps, the route to a successful restaurant venture in North Vancouver is a shortage of wait staff/kitchen help & overpriced, sad attempts at Middle Eastern/ Persian cuisine.
Good luck, lads! May the clogged arteries of the North Shore bridges continue to trap would-be adventurous diners from experiencing anything worth leaving North Van for! Cheers!
The saddest part of the evening was to learn that the poor belly dancers had to pay $30 to provide entertainment and were given no break on food prices.
Per. Suck. Olis.
I went here last week, the food was ok but very slow to arrive. Rice was overcooked, kabobs were decent but not worth the cost! The music was very loud, and the crowd was all persian. Our waitress was helpful and apologized for our long wait. Personally, I wouldn't go back here or reccomend it unless you enjoy that kind of entertainment.
Had a wonderful thursday evening with my wife at persepolis. The service was personal, our waitress was friendly and exceptionally efficient. The menu selection was unique (mediterranean fusion) and the food was beautifully presented tasted marvelous. We both had a glass of wine off their well paired and diverse wine menu (my wife is an expert) to accompany our dishes. Lastly, the restaurant is beautiful and has a soothing and sophisticated vibe. All together it was a great night with great service, great food and great wine.
My wife & I have been going to North Vancouver trying different Persian Restaurant once a week & we happen to pass by Persepolis. It was around 6:00pm on Tuesday evening & we took a peek at the door & found the place empty, but we figured that it was just probably because it was still early in the evening so we decided to give it a try. The place has a nice modern ambiance & there's an open fireplace right in the middle of the restaurant. Since the place was still empty we were given a choice of where we would like to sit & so we chose to sit beside the fireplace. We were beginning to feel that we made the right choice. When we were given the menu the host pointed out that since they're going through some staffing changes in the kitchen the entrees are currently not available & they're only serving appy, salads, & kebabs until they find a new chef.
Oh well these unfortunate things do happen so we decided go through the menu anyways & order our meal. We started our meal with a Mirza Ghasemi (Persian eggplant dip) with Pita bread followed by a lamb & beef Kebab. The meal went well & we both enjoyed our food.
When the server came over to take our plates away she asked my wife if she would like to take home her unfinished meal to which my wife said yes. The server then proceeded to take away the plates & came back with a take out container together with the bill, my wife reviewed the total & found they overcharged us on the eggplant dip. She pointed this out to the server & rather than being apologetic & fix thing right away she told us that she made an error in giving us the lunch menu instead of the dinner menu & that it would too much hassle to get the manager to override the computer in order to change the price. Rather than argue with the server we decided to just quietly pay our bill & leave.
It's too bad that what started out as a nice quiet evening was all ruined by the server's unwillingness to step up to the plate & amend her mistake. What made the experience even worse is when we got home & opened the doggy bag we found out that the server just merely scooped everything on the plate to the take out container... even a half bitten tomatoes.
I work in the lonsdale area and have been familiar with the many management changes Persepolis has undergone over the years. Especially after reading one particular review on dinehere, I was hesitant in giving the place a chance. It was my coworker who had been to Persepolis with her husband last weekend, who convinced me to go for dinner after work. Initially, entering the restaurant, the ambiance was inviting and chic. We sat beside the warm fireplace accompanied by relaxed music that wasn't overwhelming or interupted our conversing. The service was impressive as our waitress was polite, considerate (she brought extra bread without having to ask and regularily refilled our beverages) and friendly. I liked that she let us enjoy our time and didn't pressure us in any way. The biggest surprise though, was definitely the food. I had the Chilean Seabass while my coworker had the Peppercorn Steak. The fish was well seasoned and fresh and they were both perfectly cooked. Needless to say, our plates were scraped clean. Although it seemed at first the prices weren't as low as their lunch specials, their portions and quality made the meal of good value. I'm happy to have been proved wrong!
I took my girlfriend to Persepolis Restaurant & lounge last week. We had great experience there as the restaurant is beautiful design, we were served very well, ambiance was great and food was excellent. Their menu was very good and unique as it is a Mediterranean Cuisine. I had Salad Nicoise which was roasted halibut with green salad and she had Duck Confit. I have to say we were quite surprised by quality of those dishes. Our server Sara was very knowledgeable and friendly. We will defiantly going back as long as we are satisfied like last week.
Persepolis is a beautiful restaurant. It really has changed since the last time we were there. Last week we were there with family and friends and we had a good time. The service was great. A very good looking persian waitress with long black hair served our table (a reason to go back). No complaining there. Unfortunately, the food was cold and the rice very dry. A bit overprized also. The music was ok, very loud though. Anyways, thought I would share my experience.
I came in there with my family on Sept 6th, to my surprise the layout was incredible. They sat us in the new part "the lounge" and told us there will be live music catering to a Persian crowd it will be a little quieter here . The decor was beautiful with that home feeling. Our waitress came and already knew that she was new to the industry but worked that she did a great job. We ordered the salmon penne and the ground beef kabob. The meat was done so perfectly it felt like it melted in my mouth. The penne could have used a touch more salt.
Overall I know the place is under new owners and like all new places time will tell. My experience was pleasant.
Will I come back of course I would.
