I was in Cap Mall and looking for a beverage. I spotted a sign saying "$2.50 bubble tea". For that price I had to get some. The kiosk is in a backwater at the edge of the food court, and could have been slightly cleaner. When I asked for the $2.50 BBT, I was told that was the price for just tea. If I wanted flavors or pearls it was at least $3.50. Huh? That seemed like a bit of a deception. The cashier kept telling me in rather strained English that I should have fresh fruit tea, and that I did not want other tea... The tea she was pitching cost almost 4 bucks. So much for the bargain BBT I was craving.
I went with strawberry/banana and it was not very good, and certainly not worth the money. I left feeling like I had my pocket picked.
I won't be back. Shame on them.
I would be hesitant to give such good rating if I were writing this last winter. This is my second time visiting Perk-U-Later at the Cap Mall and boy am I so surprised and impressed that the new Chinese guy has changed my previous impression about their service and food quality. I was shopping and passed by the cafe's display of a good variety of cookies that I couldn't resist (the display cabinet was less appetizing and almost empty in my first visit there last winter). As I couldn't decide what I want to get (out of smarties, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter, butter scotch pecan, triple chocolate...etc), the guy recommended me the chocolate chip cookies because they are made with real Belgium chocolate. So I got that and it is the best chewy chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. The chocolates melt in my mouth and the dough is just chewy enough to give some bites to it. I really appreciate that even a small cafe manager knows his food really well and is down to earth and super friendly. I'm definitely going back. It looks like their muffins and other cookies are yummy, too! As it is in the mall, you can't expect much ambiance out of it and hence a rating of 3 for that.
