With Several locations in the Lower Mainland, Nando's Chicken offers flame grilled chicken and side dishes such as coleslaw, spicy rice and spring mix salads.
Went to Nandos for a sunday lunch. There were lots of people there. Food was good and reasonable priced. I will go back. The place was clean and the chicken was very tasty. Lots of local people here. You order at the counter and food is brought to your table. All of the sauces are at your table.
Three of us had dinner here last Friday. It was early with only a couple of tables occupied so we had our choice. My friends order the chicken breast sandwiches with Piri fries and I had the half chicken with spicy rice and a side salad. Although I ordered hot, my chicken was tasty but could have been spicier for my tastes so I truned to the table sauces to jack it up. Rice and salad were fresh and tasty sides. My friends chicken breast sandwiches were unimpressive and bland. They wished they had ordered my half chicken. Not cheap eats as the whole thing cost us close to $50 for three people with just water. Next time we'll look for coupons/specials and stick to the grilled chicken.
There's nothing spectacular about Nandos Chicken, however I can say that the meals I have eaten there have been completely acceptable and at a very reasonable price. Furthermore, the salads have always been fresh and crisp. Essentially what you see is what you get - consistency and good value for your money (and the chicken is very tasty!).
During my last visit to the North Vancouver location of Nando's (the original in the Lower Mainland, for those who care), I couldn't help but be disappointed. I planned on eating in, but with the server clearly wanting to close up early and shut the joint down, he talked me into take-out ("to go, right?"... "uh, yeah, sure.")
Secondly, I asked specifically for extra Nando's sauce with my half-chicken and salad take-out order. Alas, there was no extra sauce to be had. Three of those tiny little sauce packets? Give me a break! The sauce is what makes the Nando's experience. Why do the servers there insist on being so cheap with the stuff.
Third, the server was counting cash while my food, ready-to-go, was getting cold in the kitchen. I call BS on that. Rule #1 with any restaurant is that as soon as the food comes up, it goes... to ensure that the customer enjoys a hot meal.
Finally, why did this location remove the pop fountains in favor of cans of soda? That was one of the lures of this restaurant a few years back... Sadly, that's no longer the case.
Nando's North Vancouver has evolved from North Shore star to Lonsdale dud.
I have eaten at Nandos numerous times. Mostly, the food has been good. I love the flavour of the flame grilled chicken, and the lemon & herb sauce. The salads (esp. the mediterranean!) are excellent- always a very fresh mix of ingredients. I think the portions are fine (maybe not for people who are used to "supersize" everything), except it is kinda annoying that the wings only come in 4's, not a half dozen.
The fries have sometimes been hit or miss, sometimes too spicy , or too limp and greasy. I think they have a very good selection of sides, though, and it's nice being able to get a beer or wine with your meal. I also like the reno they did a while back, the place has quite a nice vibe.
And I am really glad they now deliver! A heaven- sent healthy week day dinner when we're too tired to cook!
They could , perhaps, consider offering something other than just chicken. In the U.K., they also serve a beef steak roll, and a great couscous salad.. I wish the'd bring that over here!
Overall, a good choice; healthier options than regular fast food joints, and less expensive than some fancier restaurants.
Nandos used to be my choice for a decent meal. Service was great, food was great, prices were great. However, everytime I go, I find the portions getting smaller and smaller, prices increasing and service getting worse.
A bun used to come with a caesar salad. Now you have to ask for one.
The chicken breast on the bun is so thin and small - you can see half the bun.
You can count the fries on the plate.
The chicken caesar salad - what chicken. It now comes with 5 thin strips of chicken.
Not worth the money they charge for the food
I agree with the previous writer that they have been cheap with the sauce. However, they've recently changed owners, so I'd recommend another visit. We are regulars there, and can't resist the medium spice double cabob meal with a side of rice and a side of ceasar salad. It's tasty, healthy, reasonably priced, and a great location for people watching.
