Tonight I was craving Greek food, I was in the area, and ordered my food.
I found my server was friendly, checked on me and was the highlight of my expensive meal.
I ordered Lamb Souvlaki with Vegetables, Homous & Pita bread and soft drink. I didn't like my Lamb, it was too dry, hard to cut, from being over cooked. The vegetables, carrots, zucchini were soggy, and the potatoes & rice didn't have alot of flavour. The Homous & Pita was good, I wish the food could have tasted better.
My lamb souvlaki with veggies, $17.00, Homous $6.99 & Pita bread $2.99 total with taxes was $27.45, before tip. Compared to other Greek spots in North Van, I found the food expensive, not cooked very well and you didn't get alot, compared to their competitors.
It could have been off night for the chef, but I found the meal to be disappointing.
Only dined here once. Wife and I had their 3 course or whatever it is platter which has a good selection of items (they were out of potatoes and maybe one other thing though).
I found the food to be pretty tasty. Lamb which I normally don't like much was good. The greek salad was good, lots of feta, I often find it lacking at many restaurants. The meal was a bit pricey but a good selection and amount of food so probably worth it. Looking over other parts of the menu didn't reveal as much value. Also didn't see a kalamari dinner which was weird - this is what I eat 95% of the time when I go for greek food.
Ambience was good and service was good, slightly upscale compared to some other places but not pretentious.
My only real issue here and with greek restaurants in general is I'm spoiled by good cheap greek food, as I often eat a huge $7 plate of calamari or donair or whatever at Pita King at Brentwood mall. It's not quite in the same league but it makes it hard to pay $20-30 for something similar at a restaurant. But if you are on a date or want to take your wife some place decent Mythos is pretty good for that. I certainly liked it better than Pasparos. I still need to try many more places on the shore to know if this is where I would spend my money for greek food but so far it is my top choice. I'm betting there is probably a place of similar quality but a bit cheaper though.
Went here for dinner during the week and they had a promotion for 90's prices until mid Aug. I don't remember the regular prices but from a review of the prices, the items are $1-$2 off the regular price. Had the lamb and it was very good. Wish they served it with Pita bread but out came some white rolls which I thought was unusual for a greek restaurant. Lamb was seasoned well and came with the other ususal suspects (rice, greek salad and potato). Service was very good but the ambiance is a bit dated. The main dining area hasn't been updated in years and the washrooms were from the 80's not even the 90's. Value was just decent.
I've been to Mythos a few times, and I can say the word that describes it best is 'inconsistent'. Sometimes I've had great roast lamb there and other times is was nasty. The service can be wonderful when the owner and his kin are in a good mood. Other times it can be stressful. If you are on the North Shore it is an okay choice, but you can get better elsewhere. Like Andreas, for example.
Mythos is a little pricey, but you can always depend on them for a good Greek dinner. Lamb shanks, roast lamb, lamb chops, moussaka, even their platters if you're feeling especially ravenous.
We started going here after the boyfriend dropped by one day to check out their menu, and the owner invited him in for a meal on the house - when the kitchen was closed in the afternoon!!! If that isn't hospitality, I don't know what is.
Mythos has also accomodated us on late evenings when we've come home from trips famished, and just wanted to eat close to home. Service is always professional and polite, and the food is healthy and delicious.
To Mr. Chasuibao who said that Andreas is a better place to dine, I really respect your numerous reviews on this board and have dined at places based on your knowledge, experience, and reviews here. However, I have to vehemently disagree with you. I've dined at Andreas numerous times, and they are constantly understaffed, and/or their staff are consistently having arguments with one another, in front of customers. Talk about stressful. Andreas makes me feel like I'm eating with the Greek equivalent of the "Sopranos".
I've been to several greek restaurants and many recommended Mythos. Go in, nice and clean with quick and friendly service. We had BC Mussels in tomato sauce as appetizers - delicious.
For the main course we both had the lamb souvlaki. When it arrived I was surprised at how small the portions were. It same with lamb (removed from the the skewer which was nice), one potato and greek salad. No rice? every greek restaurant I've been too have potato and rice with the lamb. The greek salad was a very small portion and overloaded with way too much cheese.
The lamb was overcooked for our liking - it was very well done. Oddly enough the best part was the potato in that main dish.
Will we go back? Definitely not $68 (before tip) for 1 appetizer, 2 lamb savouki's and 2 beers is a tab pricey considering the small portions. We went home and had snacks because we were still hungry - usually if you go to a greek restaurant you are so full and leave with a doggy bag but not here.
Mythos is a little pricey compared to "fast-food" Greek restaurants, but the quality makes up for it. The lamb is good, not very greasy, and cooked well. We don't come here often because of the price, it makes for a good dinner for a special occasion.
Good food, great people, good relaxing atmosphere.
AMAZING HUMUS! fluffy and light in texture, but fresh, and amazing flavor.
The Tzatziki is really good, but the Humus is what stands out the most.
good food, a little more expensive than most places, but worth the money, the food is made fresh, so may take a little longer than some places, but well worth the wait.
GET THE HUMUS! : )
Best. Greek. Food. Ever.
A little pricey, but authentic. Trust me, it's my ex's favourite Greek restaurant, and he's Greek.
Even the prices are worth it considering the ambiance and service.
I would definitely recommend this place. For a special occassion as well as an intimate date.
I have dined there many times and have never been dissapointed. Excellent staff. Has a nice atmosphere in the summer and you can also wait at the bar for your table. This is always a nice feature to have in a restaurant.
Tonight I had the chicken kabob platter it was very nice tender lightly flavoured good portion. Service was good only complaint the waiter need to speak a little louder as we were on the patio and the street noise was pretty loud. He offered specials check in on us at the right time and did not push us out the door. Of course it was not busy so thre was no need to.
The patio chiars were a bit uncomforatable as the back had the metal support bar installed so that if you leaned back it dug into your back.
Was there Saturday night with my wife and the place was packed, we were not sure if we would get seats. The host had a total can do and pleasant attitude and sat us immediatley with a smile. The male waiter was very freindly, was prompt, was careful to place the cutlery onto the plates and not the table cloth. The food servings were outstanding but the fish was a little dry. A minor little glitch with what we ordered and what we got and the waiter, without prompting or asking, nixed the item off the bill...for that we left an extra grande tip. They are doing a great job here and the service and food is pretty consistant year to year. Bravo!
I went here as part of a group of 7 at 2pm on a Friday afternoon for lunch. I had the Mythos Lunch Special which included:
1. bean and vegetable tomato soup (delicious! so fresh!)
2. light, fluffy, delicious tzatziki with fried pita (sooo good, the tzatziki)
3. a platter of lightly battered fried calamari, half of a large spanakipita, and a Greek meat patty
This was seriously the best Greek lunch I've ever had. It was $12.95 + tax/tip per person (minimum of 2 orders for this lunch special). A real deal, if you ask me, for the quality you get. Four of us ordered this and were all very satisfied with our lunch!
I will definitely come back again. That tzatziki and calamari are sooooo addictive. Nothing was too salty. You tasted the freshness of the food. If I came for dinner, I would definitely want to try their stuffed grilled calamari and other things that looked so delicious on the menu.
Another lunch special they had was one that was $14.95 per person (min. 2 orders), that included tiger prawns and scallops, hummus, and other things (but no calamari). That looked enticing as well.
Hope you have a chance to try this gem on Lonsdale Drive in North Vancouver!
Went to Mythos with the bf for dinner last night. We had a great time! The service was friendly, prompt and warm. Our server checkd on us regularly but it wasn't intrusive at all. Our food arrived quickly and was delicious. Pita bread arrived still warm at the table with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip it in and the calamari was a highlight for us. We ordered a platter for 2 and there was enough food for at least 3 people. We will definitely be back again!
My wife and I dine out once a week, and have sampled many restaurants in North Vancouver. We are now into the habit of going back to Mythos at least once every two weeks, and have been doing so for the past seven years. In fact, we'd be happy to go every week. Why? First, we are welcomed by name as we enter, and the welcome is always warm. Second, the attention we receive once seated is the best we have experienced. Service is always quick and friendly, and the staff bend over backwards to please us. They anticipate our every need and wish. Third, we are confident that, no matter what we order (and we have now settled on a few favourite entrees), we are going to enjoy the food. There is always more than enough, and we usually bring a doggie bag home. Fourth, the restaurant is always full and bustling, and there is a warm, friendly atmosphere. Fifth, they make the best Spanish coffees in town. Our neighbourhood simply wouldn't be as attractive as it is without Mythos.
After reading some of the reviews on dinehere.ca which gave this restaurant such high praise, we thought it sounded worth trying. We went for lunch on a weekday, and aside from 1 or two other occupied tables, we were the only ones there. After what seemed like a rather long wait for our meals, we were finally brought our food. We both had souvlaki, and were both rather disappointed with our dish. Greek salad could almost fit into a thimble it was such a small serving. Also, the onions were not even sliced properly, and there were large chunks that had only been half-sliced... You don't really expect such an amateur slicing job in a restaurant. Potato had no flavour, and neither did the rice. We ended up having to smother everything in lemon juice just to give it some kind of taste. Meat itself was not too bad, and the tzatziki was actually really good. However, for $14.95, the only thing that was worth it was a little pile of tzatziki. Don't bother with this place.. Go somewhere else.
we've been eating here for years, and have never had anything but consistently great food. the lamb chops are top drawer...just came back from greece, and it wasn't any better. this place should be anyone's top of the list, if they have any love for greek food...no exaggeration:)
I have dined here time and time again! The service is excellent with an authentic Greek ambience to the restaurant. The food is incredible and I highly recommend the Symposium for two or more. I also suggest you make reservations as it can get very busy, especially on the weekends.
I love Mythos. Once you step into the restaurant, first you get owner's smile with warm welcome. I alwasy start with some small dish just to spend some time before my entree comes. Yeahm have some wine, talk with your friend or love one. Then ah... my favourit Rosted Lamb. Bit of Tomato taste, big potato and rosted vegetable. I eat almost samething but never get tired of it.
And most of all, they never compromise thier food quality even when they have full house of people. (most of the time they are) means, as you know...This is great place to eat! Fantastic, I say. Come enjoy your North Shore best Greek Restaurant.
Expensive for what you get. Not recomended, service was poor, over crowded that particular night, hence food came very, very, very late. Not worth it. Did I mention it too forever to get the meal?
