Worst place ever!

Went there with a friend for lunch since we work in the area, arrived there at 1pm ordered a bento box lunch special, said one roll of California got 3 peices, at 2pm asked to order more california like one more roll, and they said sorry last call. Explained to them there was no point coming there for lunch if i was gonna leave hungry and then eat somewhere else after, the worker said "well your going to have to". I would not recommend this place to anyone, worst service ever small portions.

had a family dinner here a few days ago...the food was decent, nice portions, solid flavours. the place was a touch tacky but roomy and inviting.

the staff were very kind (most of them anyway) but seldom spoke english...

nothing to complain about, however.

Limited lunch boxes

First time for lunch and even though the lunch menu was 4-5 pages long, I found their bento boxes lacking in variety. It seemed all of the choices like chicken or beef came with a california roll. There was no combos with other rolls, sushi, or sashimi. Quality is average and the box prices are reasonable.

Just another typical sushi joint, nothing special.

New review because of improvements

Since my previous review, my dining companion dragged me in here again. I've given a slightly better rating now--no more cabbage core! And the decor has cleaned up a bit though is still garish. Still dull overall but edible.

Just another so so sushi place

Probably wouldn't have tried this place but our daughter wanted some udon so we ducked in here instead of another option on Lonsdale.

So it's a Japanese restaurant but other than the food nothing feels too Japanese about it. Obviously not Japanese run (no that I always care), but the dining chairs belong in a chinese restaurant. Decor was fairly spartan and bland.

Service was alright. Funny thing is they give you a small water glass and only half fill it. About one ounce of water. I drink like a fish when I eat sushi so that could be annoying had I not ordered a pop.

Ordered a boat and it was OK. Can't really remember much about it except they forgot our sunomono. Just typical so so japanese food. What brings the rating down to 2 is the Udon was not very good at all. Bland and mushy.

Anyway, while not a horrible experience we won't be back, there are just much better options and other places to try. I'll take Ichiban or even Sushi-man any day over this.

Nothing special except the attitude...

I was in NorthVan to see what was happening in the hood when I spotted LS. It has only recently opened, and their sign offering 18 pieces of sushi plus miso for $5.75 was attractive.

I went in and noticed the fresh paint and 'new restaurant' look. I ordered the special, and checked out the w/c. Nice and clean.

When the sushi arrived I was amazed to get two California rolls and a yam roll. That was different. I counted, and yep there were 18 little pieces. I downed my miso (tasty) and started in on the sushi. Suddenly the server appeared, and said that she should not have given me two California rolls and I would have to pay $0.75 extra. "What?" I exclaimed. I told the server it was not my fault, and indicated that I would not pay for the mistakes of others. After a brief exchange of words, the server apologized and slunk away.

The sushi was satisfactory, but I don't need the trouble. I will not be back any time soon.
