The table was dirty when I first sat down on my first dining experience at this little "restaurant." I mentioned it to the waitress. Why do they all insist on investigating it instead of just cleaning it? I had only just arrived and already I had been insulted. I wanted something small to eat and a cocktail. Unfortunately, all cocktails are doubles. On the waitress's advice, I ordered the bread pudding and a gingerale and vodka cocktail.
The bread pudding was unlike any other I have ever had. Sitting with a view of the kitchen and cook, I watched the cook cut a piece of chocolate cake into pieces that are too large to be comfortably bite-size. Then he dumped them in a deep fryer, where other foods have been fried and where they crisp up making them impossible to cut into bite-size pieces with a spoon, and then dumped them into a bowl. I was horrified as a I watched him do this. He drizzles caramel and chocolate sauce on top, adds ice cream, and that's it… bread pudding, sort of, but not really at all. The cake had an undefinable and unpalatable flavour - probably from the oil that had been used to deepfry fish, fries, onion rings… who knows what. For $10, I expected a more professional and palatable dessert.
The cocktail was very gingery… to the point of undrinkable.
I ate my entire dessert because I was starving. (I should have left it and requested a refund.) I left half of my $18 cocktail on the table. I told the waitress that I was unhappy with the dessert and the drink, but no offer was made by her to compensate me for anything.
The bill came to over $24. I won't go back.
