I've passed by this restaurant numerous times, and never thought of going there. After a recent trip to Korea, I have developed a craving for Korean food, so I decided to give it a try.

The place is run by Koreans. Each table seems to equip with the bbq facility. We ordered the short ribs with house special sauce. Unfortunately, we were told that the bbq won't be lighted unless there is more than one order. Make sense to me. So the ribs were prepared in the kitchen and served on a cast iron plate. The marinate was amazingly delicious and the meat is incredibly tender.

The two of us were getting full after this short ribs dish and all the wonderful side dishes (4 different kinds). Don't know why but I decided to order one more dish: stir fried squid with vegetables and noodle in spicy sauce. The server asked to make sure that we can take spicy food. Very nice of her. When the dish came, it blew our minds off. The serving size is 3 times bigger than what it shows on the menu. The noodle was cooked just right; it was served cold, which went well with the hot sauce. The squid was a bit chewy. The flavour was well balanced. Another fantastic dish. We were too full to finish even half of the plate. The server came and asked again to see if it was too spicy.

We left with two full belly but leftover for next day dinner. We'll be back.

Well I came on here and people said the food was good and my bf said the food was okay. So I go and I get the BBQ and I get the short ribs or something and the assorted meat and it all comes with 6 side dishes. well the meat was horrible. I didnt like any part of it. It's small portions if you really think about it. And its expensive. The Beef one was 19.95!!! and you get 2 rolled up peices of beef and you have to Grill it yourself on this little grill in the middle. Its like paying 20 dollars for a crappy steak very thin and it was brown. Didn't look good raw and certinly wasn't good cooked. I won't be returning.

i've visited Kyungbokgoong a couple of times.
sadly i don't think their service improve over the time.

the food is pretty okay, considering my high expectation as a korean. their kimchi is better than the most. the portion is usually a lot for me - which i can't really complain.
and as long as you avoid the peak hour, it's not too overcrowded.

what really annoys me is their service... they always make excuse whenever they can't serve certain food. i don't know if there are enough waiters, but most of the time they are not attentive. it's even worse when the place is filled with people. you have to wait half an hour to get some water. (eventually i had to go get it myself.)

i know it's just a beginning for them... so i intend to wait a while. but if this inadequate service continues, i doubt if i'd want to go back.

I'm not a food expert but I've been to other "high class Korean restaurant" and I can tell you the food here is even better than those acclaimed 4-star restaurants by word of mouth. At first I was skeptical reading all the poor reviews of this place, but I did not regret trying out. Definitely will go back when I'm in the mood for Korean BBQ, especially when it comes to cheap all-you-can eat. I had very prompt service, except there are times when they don't quite understand what you need. They charged us the bill of one more person but they quickly fixed it afterward, not a problem.

I don't know about food quality or anything, the meat does not seem that appealing (but perhaps for the better so you know not a lot of preservatives are used) but the taste is next to greatness. They tend to use a lot of black pepper (hopefully not to mask the spoilage) but no food poisoning so far. Like any other Korean restaurants, be prepared to get dehydrated after your overnight sleep. All I can say is, go try it yourself, don't believe what you read (except for mine) and judge it yourself. Oh, don't bother with the sushi. We went at 8 pm on a Sunday, maybe that's when the batch is at its best quality at the time.

We had a beef soup and the seafood pancake both of which I would recommend. The accompanied 'garnishes' were very good, especially the lettuce.
The service was very poor, it took 15 min to flag down a waitress to get the bill and we did not get a refill of tea, although; I must commend the owner for explaining each dish to us and making recommendations.

The place was full of Koreans on a Tuesday night so there must be a reason that it won Vancouver Sun's "Best Korean Food 2006" award.

I recommend it for the food

I've told my parents time and time again to NOT go back to this poorly managed restaurant, but they seem to want to give them one more try for kindness sake. But no more! Last time we went during the holiday, everything about the place was STILL dissapointing. We had made a reservation for 11 people, they TRIED to stick us into the first table for 6!! Thank goodness for my dad's bluntness that we got a room (we had made the reservation 1 week ahead of time and they still got it wrong). It took them forever to give us the tea pot, which we requested 2 b/c there were so many of us, but they refused, so we kept on asking for a refill b/c one pot fills 6 cups at a time.
The bbq meat looked like it hasn't been used for months. They were cheap on the apperatives (ie. kimchi, bean sprouts) and did I mention that they were nowhere to be found when we needed service?

And worse of it all is that they used to serve the syrup rice as dessert, but no more, oh no more! After spending over $300, they said that they no longer provide 'this item". Even the cheapest chinese restaurant gives you SOMETHING for spending so much money.

I will NEVER go there again. If anything, cross the bridge to DT vancouver and enjoy the other korean restaurants who will not put you in this uncomfortable situations from the start.

My friend and I went there tonight since we like the other Kyung Bok Goong in Richmond. We got a table by window and ordered bbq beef. We saw owner used electricity tenis rack to catch flys in kitchen area for over 30 minutes, and we wished the dead fly will not drop into our food.
Finally we got our food served, we found their is a very tinny bug (or fly) on our lettus. Waitress was so surprised when my friend point out that to her. Since I am in restaurant industry, and I can tell their beef is not very freshly prepared on the same day or a day early. However, taste is still ok. Their side dishes are good. The beef doesn't come with rice, so we need to order seperated. They couldn't serve ice water because they said water quality is not good to serve. Well, I could tell when I saw a fly on my lettus.
However, service is good and fast. They even change our bbq rack twice during our meal.
