Serving authentic New York style pizza in North Vancouver. Formerly known as Knockout Pizzeria. This restaurant was sold as of August 2009 and will be changing names.
There's nothing fancy about this place. They make the best pizzas that I've had outside Italy. Superb thin pizza base with fresh ingredients - it seems dead simple but too many other places seem to think that you need a three course meal slapped on a pizza ie. quantity instead of quality. This is really VERY good.
I guess gone are the days of happy-go-lucky pizzeria owners dishing out great pizzas. We really had our hopes up for this one but have been really disappointed - and we've tried it more than once with hopes it would get better - no luck.
First off, the pizza is 'ok'. Its not bad, but there are definitely better. We found the consistency wasnt there either.. some times were better than others. We even had one where the dough wasnt fully cooked - blah! But once you factor the price into things, there are many other better places.
What really turned us off though was the smug attitude we got on a couple visits. We later learned this was the owner! She could have cared less whether we were there or not. Really didnt make you feel welcome.
There HAS to be better pizza on the north shore. We're done with this place. Our pursuit continues for a great pizza.
We came, we saw, and we thoroughly enjoyed. Karla's Brooklyn Pizzeria delivers very, very tasteful, thin-slice pizza, in the New York tradition. It's about time that this kind of pizzeria came to North Vancouver. The ingredients used (we ordered a half Hell's Kitchen, half pepperoni traditional) were outstanding, particularly the cheese itself.
I'm already looking forward to a return visit, this time for an eat-in experience. My only suggestion: bring in the green olives (one of my favorite toppings for pizza, but one that is surprisingly hard to find in Greater Vancouver). However, my bottom line for Karla's: Great Value, Great Taste, Great Pizza!
So it's gone downhill quite a bit.. I think places need to stop charging $3.00 delivery charge now that the gas prices have gone down. $3.00 was ridiculous even when they were up.
Anyway, the quality of the pizza - it's just OK. It's very unpredictable, but the first dozen times I ordered there it was spectacular. The next handful of times it's been either just OK or not acceptable.
At the price.. you can do a whole lot better. Hope they improve and knock it off with the stupid $3.00 delivery fee and consider running specials.
