All you can eat Japanese with some Malaysian and Thai items.
I know thta they had closed, but heard that they wanted to re-open in another location, so thought a review would be appropriate to leave.
The food is fantastic, of course being a buffett and being all you can eat the value is incredible $17 dinner all you can eat ($22 if you go for the additional items menu) The ambiance is terrific, nice cozy feeling.
The only thing I didn't really like was that they had brought additional items that we had not ordered, but who cares (after all it is a buffet)
If they open another location I will return
I’ve been to many Japanese restaurants but none can compare to I Love Sushi in terms of value, food, and service.
Food: Fresh and tastes great.
For the lunch menu priced at around $10, it is pretty extensive and offers not only Japanese food but also Malaysian and Chinese food. They also offer ramen in their AYCE menu so that is definitely something special compared to other AYCE Japanese restaurant. Aside from their menu, I really appreciate the fact that they do not cut my orders in half. In other places, they deliberately cut my orders of sashimi in half. So if I order 10, they serve me 5. Although this is not a big deal, it becomes very annoying if every AYCE place does that. Granted, I Love Sushi does miss orders once in a while but that is not a problem as we can always order again. The food itself is pretty tasty, especially for only $10 (B-menu) and $13 for the C-menu that includes unlimited salmon and tuna sashimi.
Service: Friendly and attentive.
I’m not very picky about service. As long as they are friendly, deliver what we asked for (within reasonable boundaries), and fill our cups when it’s almost empty, then I’m satisfied. Strangely, many AYCE sushi places cannot fulfill the above criteria so I’m happy that this place does. Our first time there, the manager even came to recommended and explain the origins of the ingredients, which I also appreciate.
Value: Reasonable
The B-menu for lunch has the best value for $10. The C-menu with sashimi is also very reasonable at $13. The dinner menu is pricier at around $20 (B-menu) but it’s worth it for the increase food selection and service.
Ambiance: Bright, clean, and spacious.
The place itself is fairly neat and clean. There are also many big windows and lights which makes dining more enjoyable. The restaurant itself it pretty big and the washrooms are also clean. It is a pity that not many people dine here (at least not during the times that my family and I went there) because this place deserves more customers than other AYCE sushi places such as Fish On Rice.
Overall:
It is definitely worth checking out. I just wish that it wasn’t so far. If I live in North Van, I’d definitely go there more often. Hopefully, this place maintains its standards.
It's so good!! Well, for $8 that is.
I went there for lunch and the menu has the typical japanese food...sunomono, chicken karage, california rolls, etc. The 2 other menus have more food on it, but the most expensive one (at about $13) is still very affordable. Also, we weren't able to finish our food and asked to have the left overs packed up and they charged us very reasonable. A lot better than other ayce places.
As for the shark fin (sorry I just really have to comment on this)... before this economic situation we're in, they didn't use real shark fin. It's too expensive to use in an all you can eat restaurant. So don't worry! It'll be years (maybe never) before they'll be serving it at AYCE places.
this is for the reviewer below me. I am in no way defending this restaurant for its practices and will not go back again in the near future But I just want to say, I too am a believer in the oceanfriendly program but reality check... it will take some time for sushi bars to conform to that ideal. Purchase prices are sky rocketing and surviving our current economic situation is making it difficult for smaller businesses to change their habits right now. On the so called shark fin. Was it a salad? if it was, I'll let you in on it... that shark fin is imitation shark fin. it is made from a starch like ingredient you would find in the noodles in your suomono salad. And the rest of it is jelly fish.
cheers.
While there was an abundance of food, most of it tasty, I will not be goig back here becasue they serve foods which are not sustainably caught. For a restaurant in vancouver to still be serving shark fin products is not acceptable. "I love sushi" can enjoy my business again when they join OceanWise and appropriately modify their menu. Until then, stand against the wasteful slaughter of sharks (fin and tail cut off, live shark tossed back to die. 90% of predatory fish are already gone) by not supporting placed that serve them.
have been here couple of times. good experience. the food is ok, some things good, some things are just ok. i will suggest to skim the menu on the first round and then order up on the stuff you like. it is nice to see an ayce in north van. if i am in the area i will stop in for a bite. they have good selection of items to choose from.
Mrs. C and I went with some friends to check out the place based on the good reviews below. Overall we had no complaints.
The restaurant itself is clean enough, but not as nice as under the previous ownership. The w/c was nasty. I should add here that this location has gone through several incarnations, starting (when I first encountered it) as Yick's and then changing hands at least 4 times since then. A year or two ago, 1/3 of the building was walled off and became a rather crappy Malaysian place. But tonight was sushi night.
The service was good enough, although some of the orders took a while to get to the table. The food was pretty good, but not at the top of my list. One annoyance was the class system for ordering. They have A, B, and C classes which can drive the price of the AYCE up to an astounding 27 bucks. As usual, I sat at the back of the bus. I had the 17 buck A-list. The confusing bit comes when you fill out the form to order (they don't use PDA's here). You have to be careful not to order from the expensive items or a single order could get you dinged for an extra 10 bones. The paper form does not properly separate the first class from steerage class items... Nerve-wracking!
I liked all the items I ate and everyone at our table seemed satisfied with the variety. Still I left feeling that I could have gotten better value for my money elsewhere. Nothing really impressed me enough to say 'wow'.
Good if you are on the North Shore.
When this place opened it was great, the price was good the food was fresh and there were plenty of great choices on the menu. I would try to hit this place at least once a week with my co workers. After recently returning from a month long trip overseas I wanted to go to my (once) favorite all you can eat joint, after sitting down I noticed that many (if not all) of my favored items had been crossed out on the menu and the price had risen! I politely questioned the manager and was given a lame and unsatisfactory answer regarding rising food costs. With the recent changes to the menu and price all this place has to offer now is horrible service and "feed bag" quality food at an inflated price. I will never return again and I urge you also to look elsewhere. The poor decisions of the management ruined this once great place.
Went to I Love Sushi on Friday night with the bf. The selection at this AYCE restaurant is huge! I've never seen so many items that you can order from at an AYCE place before. Sure, there are some items that aren't traditionally Japanese, but most of them are still tasty.
Service was decent. We were seated quickly and the waiter came by to pick up our first round order sheet promptly. Had no trouble getting more order sheets or tea. Food arrived quickly too.
I would definitely come back again.
I've read the reviews. Decided to try out the place on weeknight. It was not too busy. Ambiance is more like a cafeteria but the food and service was very good. Huge portions and quite attentive service. For $16.00 it was worth it and more. I'll be back as long as they keep up the standards. Recommended if your hanging out on the North Shore.
Had dinner here a few days ago, and enjoyed the great selection of food. I had the deluxe AYCE for $22 a person. Was pleasantly surprised at the selection as well as quality. For an all you can eat restaurant, I think the quality is better than almost all AYCE places.
They had some nice stuff on their menu, such as prawn tempura, without needing the vegetables to go with it, which was nice for people who just like the prawns. I found their wild salmon actually quite good and tastey, as well as their beef tataki. One downside is that portions seem strange, as I ordered beef tataki 3 times, and each time it was signifcantly bigger or smaller than the order before, like double as big or small. The roti I found a little disappointing, but found their lobster, geoduck and sharkfin (jellyfish) sushi quite tastey. Their scallop motoyaki was decent, as well as almost everything else I ordered.
The service was quite good once I got into the restaurant, spent a few minutes at the front before got acknowledged. But once seated, they came often to ask if we wanted to order more, we got another order sheet each time, and nothing was "forgotten" like other AYCE places.
I give this place 4 stars, since its a great place compared to other AYCE places. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.
Have gone there twice now (for me to go to a Sushi place more than once something is going well).
The place is very cold and very loud and open. However when we go there for all you can eat sushi, none of that really matter. I thought the portions were good (we ordered too much and were stuffed). The food was very consistent.
You take your own order by filling out a piece of paper which is ok, however they do not bring you back another piece of paper in case you want more. Not sure as if the policy is you only order once.
One of only 2 sushi places on the North Shore for me.
Awesome service - large portions - clean place - efficient and very very friendly. If they keep this up they'll become the busiest lunch place in the 3rd and Lonsdale area. Good job guys!
I have been two days in a row this week and have tried some of my usual items and some new items - very impressed.
I was looking for a place to eat, read the reviews that were all positive, and had to explore this sushi place.
Bright, attentive, not too busy place and enjoyed the variety I had ordered. The ordering is similiar to Dim Sun, with pencil and slip of paper of the amount & type of sushi you wish to eat. If ordering the chicken teriyaki, I had order 1, which should have been 2 when filling out, and found the portion size small. I loved the california, avacado, salmon rolls, that we're wonderful to eat.
I ordered A for $6.99 and ordered coca cola, with my total under $9.00, and I was stuffed. Great deal for your money, I will be buck, and I hope the quality continues, and will have to try their take out for 25% off...
Thanks for the great reviews everyone, I wouldn't have tried it and may ignored a great sushi spot.
Hey everyone who loves AYCE sushi! There's a new place to get your fix. Everything is fairly new there and the service and attention is great (for now). Hopefully they can keep this up. Food is what AYCE sushi should be. Very FRESH, large portions, and greater variety than most places. Have not tried lunch ( starting at $6.95) but looked at the selection...is worth it and more. The place is quite spacious and airy not cramped like other places. I was there for the first time for Saturday night and the place was busy. It was worth the drive over the bridge.
I have been to 20-25 Sushi restaurants in Metro Vancouver. 2-3 times a week. I had been to this restaurant under a couple of different names at this location. Chinese, Japanese, not too impressed. I saw the new name and new management. I decided to give it a try. For lunch they offer an A,B,C options running from $6.95 to $12.95. Dinner, $15.95 to $20.95. I have never seen such a selection. By far the best I have ever been to. All you can eat, lobster, abalone, shark fin sushi. I think there is 10 different sashimi items. The staff has been unbelievable. They are so polite and service is excellent. I went 5 times last week. Once for an anniversary, one birthday, a sunday brunch and twice for lunch during the week. You gotta try this one. Great raw oysters. No limit on anything. Just a wonderful place. Lots of staff and all extremely pleasant and can't do enough for you! You won't be dissappointed.
Saw an ad for this place and thought it would be great if I could find a decent AYCE sushi place on the north shore. I wasn't expecting much after seeing some mentions of it but was pleasantly surprised. I've been here a few times now for lunch.
The food I can only describe overall as "decent/OK", there is good and bad. The miso soup doesn't cut it. The tuna nigiri/sashimi is quite tasty. The malaysian/thai dishes are a nice addition. Presentation/preparation is a bit messy. The food all tastes reasonably fresh though, not old like some places (Kingsway Sushi). It's also not chincy in any way, you get lots of fish to rice, etc. Pop is also refillable.
The service is what I appreciate most. The staff seem genuinely cheerful and eager to actually please you. I mean they actually ask you "are you happy?" and smile and even encourage you to eat more. A far cry from many other AYCE places. Their english isn't always great so sometimes there is miscommunication but no big deal.
The place is fairly large and bright.
The prices are quite good here too. There are a few tiers of all you can eat, with the cheapest starting at $6.95 for a weekday lunch, which is really quite amazing.
I give it 4 stars for the combination of service and price with decent food. If it remains this way I'll be a regular here to get my AYCE fix. I'm only worried it will become a victim of its own success like others (Fish On Rice) and go down the tubes in regards to service. Already on the last visit it was considerably busier with it at capacity at 2 PM.
