Grace Wok Restaurant is a locally owned and family operated restaurant specializing in Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine.
I went to the '' Grace Wok '' at 636 Queensbury Avenue on saturday, may 12th, 2012, for the first time. It is real plain inside, one small table, really not much there, so I put my food order in,,, about 5 different items. I waited about 20 minutes ( usual ) waiting time. When I got home and opened the containers, the food was hot and actually real good. I will say thumbs up,, The rice, sweet & sour boneless pork, beef & broccolli, pork chow mein, and the spring rolls were very good. Yes,,,,. I would try this place,, not fancy at all,, but good eats, I will be back again, from, Allan Cassidy
Maybe 'outstanding' for the Food category is overstating it a bit, but this place deserves much better than a Solid rating. I have tried this place a few times now and the quality is consistently high. Although the premises are sparse and basic, it is very clean and the kitchen is partially open to viewing. The patrons are very friendly and polite. Thoroughly recommended.
We usually visit a place at Park and Tilford for our occasional Friday night Chinese food take-out feast but I was curious/anxious/desperate to try someplace different, yet not too far away for easy pickup. Perusing the Dine Here reviews for nearby Chinese restaurants, I came across the Grace Wok on Queensbury, not 6 blocks from our place. I’d seen the restaurant front many times driving by but it never inspired me to give it a shot. The few reviews for the food were good and it had a website with a menu for ordering. Wife was quite hesitant to try someplace new since she must have her traditional Wonton Soup and BBQ Pork Chow Mein but I managed to twist her arm with the promise of an after dinner foot rub. So along with the Mein and a double order of the soup, I also ordered Chicken with Sweet Ginger and Pineapple, and Szechuan Style Beef. If you order more than $30, you get a free Shredded Chicken Fried Rice. So we had lots of food for three ($40 for pickup), with several late night leftovers for number 2 son.
The Grace is a takeout/delivery place only, which quickly becomes apparent when you walk into the Spartan store. There is a basic green and white tile floor with a scattering of simple tables and chairs and a rudimentary half wall separating the kitchen from the take-out waiting area. We had to wait about 5 minutes for our order to be finished so the sounds of clattering woks and cleavers on cutting blocks filled the air along with the aromas of a Chinese kitchen. They certainly aren’t wasting money on décor but then who cares when you are just there to pickup. If they pass all their food inspections, I’m good to go.
So we toted our containers back to the truck for the short hop home and unwrapped everything on the kitchen counter. First impressions were good; the food looked very fresh and different from our usual Canadian Chinese fare so we hungrily dug in. The Wonton soup was hefty minced pork wontons in a flavourful broth; one order would have been enough for three so we have a container in the fridge for lunch tomorrow. The Chow Mein was a thin round noodle fried with a dark soy dressing and slivers of BBQ pork, onion, cabbage and bean sprouts; a bit over salty with soy but still delicious with an excellent noodle bite. The Chicken with Sweet Ginger and Pineapple was tender chicken with brightly coloured peppers and pineapple cooked in a sweet-tart sauce. The Szechuan style beef was battered, deep fried beef strips, cooked in an appropriately bold and spicy sauce with diced peppers and onions. The Chicken Fried Rice was the usual light and mild dish, making a nice background for the Szechuan beef.
Overall, the food was delicious and we’re kicking ourselves for not trying the Grace sooner. We’ll be back to order from their more extensive printed take-out menu now that we have on pinned to the fridge. And the wife didn't forget I owed her a foot rub.....
I totally forgot about this neighborhood gem and hadn't eaten for a while. My recent delivery order took a bit longer than usual, but they're very apologetic and the wait was worth it. Nothing is overcooked and great flavor balance. The serving size is huge and left over had enough for next day lunch and dinner. I have to order more often.
If you are tired of greasy, MSG laden Chinese food and lousy service - look no further than Grace Wok.
I have been ordering take-out for about a year. They have never disappointed me. They always send me a free dish (!?!) and the service is excellent. You won't get any frozen chopped veg or grease here. They know how to put the love in the food they serve.
I can't say enough about this Mom & Pop shop. I am a huge fan. My husband always used to get sick from Chinese food and refused to order it but now, he is a convert! I can say enough about them. Try it and you'll see what I mean.
Lived down the block for four years, was weary to try. Husband was away so ordered beef and broccoli and chicken chow mein. Not authentic style, but very good. The chow mein noodles were lovely. Best on north shore for takeout. What kind of site is this that I need 50 words! This is why there was only one review you make it too difficult
