A Persian bakery that also serves gelati.
I've been here a few times now. I like the sweets they make, they are quite tasty. I've developed an addiction for a particular type of their pastries - I believe the English name is Elephant Ears. The problem I have with this place is the service - or lack of. I do not speak their native language but I've noticed that the majority of their customers do. When I go in there, I am usually ignored for quite some time. I have a lot of patience and don't mind waiting while the lady behind the counter chats with a regular in a language I don't understand. I have no desire to mess with their daily routines - I just want to give them some business. The last time I went no one came to the counter. The lady poked her head out, saw it was me, and went back to doing something else. It made me feel unwanted and out of place. I don't care how good their products are - this type of service is unforgivable and I will never return again.
I went here with my sister, shes not into baked goods, so she got some of the gelato, raspberry, it was super tasty, I'm not sure if they make it themselves, but it tasted amazing. I just went and got some of the treats, I got rolls and some baked fritter type things. Everything is very good. I will be returning for more treats soon.
My experience with Persian baked goods has been limited at best but we've sampled the wares of this establishment twice in the last couple months. Not knowing any of the pastries and cookies, we ask the woman behind the counter to fill a box with a selection of her favourites (they charge by weight). Both times we've had interesting and varied offerings with the flavours of coconut, almond, apricot, and spices I couldn't clearly identify. Nothing fruity but very tasty.
I was looking for some bakery action when I stumbled on this place. It is very clean and the service was great. This bakery is named after the famous palace in Tehran. I would say that is probably an overly generous comparison, but it looked pretty good in there. The owner/manager described the various treats on display and explained what they were.
Alas, they also had gelati, so I suddenly decided to skip the baked goods and went with a mango and vanilla gelato cone and some mini-melts.
The cakes were VERY enticing, so I will be back for more soon.
Good for tasty desserts!
