It took us several attempts to find this restaurant because we didn't know it would be in the middle of a residential area. Thank goodness for GPS! Very tasty pasta, good portions and good service. Bonus ebook coupon! Can't go wrong. The specials are pretty yummy too. They aren't located in a well lit area, but once you find it, you'll be back for more.

I was walking pass Gambrinus, when I decided to check out their location for dinner. I was greeted by my server, who I think was the owner, and was definately knowledgeable.
I like how you felt, relaxed, comfortable, with a great collection of music playing. Its not cluttered, the tables are placed far enough away and you get to dine without feeling you're bothering anyone. It makes a nice spot to have a date or share a meal with friends.
I ordered their pasta, I hear they have a pasta deal on Tuesday, must check it out soon. It was fantastic, I had meaty linguine with meatballs and I couldn't finish my dish, and have my lunch for the next work day. I thought I could finish it, but there was more than I thought, and the sauce, meat, linguine, garlic had lots of flavour and It didn't take long for me to get full.
I did save room for this great Chocolate fill dessert that was white and dark chocolate mousse. Save room, its rich, light and loved how it tasted. Glad I walked home to burn off my meal.
This is a nice spot to eat for dinner, and I will be back.

Recommend.

just okay

I went to this place based on the strength of the reviews here. While it was okay, I did not find the restaurant lived up to the advance billing. The restaurant itself had a functional ambiance, and it was clean enough. It had the sort of bland decor that would go with any sort of restaurant. The w/c was clean and that was a plus.

Service was good, and I liked the complimentary bread. I also had a decent glass of red wine for $6.25. We lucked out because it was cheap pasta night. Mrs. C and I had different pastas, both with the house tomato meat sauce. The small bowls of pasta were acceptable, but the sauce was watery and lacked flavor. I also foolishly added Italian sausage to my pasta. For 3 bucks more I got 4 slivers. Not worth it. We also had Caesar salads which were quite tiny and not great value for the money.

So some good and some bad points. Will I be back? Sure, because I want to try their cheap schnitzel night. I won't try the pasta again though.

My wife and I dine here all the time. The food is consistently good. Great portions. And not pretentious! It's nicely decorated in a quiet atmosphere. {That's very important!} I enjoy talking while eating out, not yelling. Our kids (13, 23 and 26) enjoy it also. They LOVE the selections of warm bread promptly provided to you when seated.

I'd have to say my favourite dish is the Seafood Liguini. My wife goes for the schnitzel or Osso Bucco. The calamari gets a huge thumbs-up from me also!

If you don't have reservations you might be waiting awhile, especially on weekends.

It is a true gem amongst restaurants. It's getting hard to find restaurants on the North Shore that serve a variety of North American and Mediterranean dishes under one roof!

Highly recommended!

We go to Gambrinus all the time and love it. It is within walking distance of our house, which is great. The menu is quite extensive and has some amazing dishes that are hard to find at other restaurants, like Osso Bucco and Goulash Soup. However, the duck is definitely my favorite. It is always cooked to perfection and I love the cranberry chutney that accompanies it. My husband enjoys the weiner schnitzle.

The service is always great - the staff is super friendly and the owners are always there to greet you. The ambiance is good and usually you can get a quite booth and enjoy your meal.

My family's favourite place!

My family loves going here. It's a bit far (we live in Burnaby) but still, it's worth it. Especially with the entertainment coupon! Their calamari is the best in town - the most unique and flavourful for sure! I seem to always have the same dish.. I can't remember the name but it's chicken with these delicious handmade little dough dumplings. My parents always have the osso bucco, and my sister the shrimp pasta. Great place. Servers feel very family oriented and we always see the same group, makes it feel like they value what they are doing and serving.

Just took my son here for his birthday dinner. All the reviews are right, it's a great little place. Food was all great esp. the calamari & Duck. Service was good the only thing I might say is it took a bit of time to get our entrees but in all fairness they were pretty busy. I will definitely be back again. Great value for such good foo.

We came in on Sunday for the Prime Rib special and that was the tip-off that this was a special neighborhood place. It seemed like everyone lived nearby or knew each other, or knew the servers and owners. It boiled down to the fact that the servers and owners were professional and friendly and seemed to genuinely care about the customers and us too, considering that we don't live anywhere near this place. The food by the way was really good with fairly big portions and not wallet hurting prices. There was a good mix of music playing too , but not so loud as to impact conversation. I was told that this place has been here for a while and that new owners had taken over.
Enjoyable overall.

Best duck dinner

The duck is my favorite dish here - I order it often! Beautifully plated dishes. The service is the best - they treat you like royalty. Martinis can be found here too - their martini menu covers two pages! The menu hasn't changed over the years - perhaps now is a good time to revamp it! Whatever they add, I know it'll be great.

Ate here last week with my 5 yr old son, he said it was better than McDonalds! We both enjoyed the buffalo carpaccio and he then had the linguine and meatballs while I had the duck.

Good value, soild food, enjoyed the martinis and the fact they have a decent selection of wines by the half bottle at reasonable prices.

I wouldn't take my kids unless it is early as I think they get busy later on, but will return with and without the kids.

Saw the good reviews and decided to try it and it lived up to its reputation. The bread basket they brought at the beginning was pipping hot and the one bun reminded me of my Mom's homemade buns! I enjoyed their Schnitzel with mushroom gravy on the side and would get it again. Veggies on the side were cooked perfectly. Boyfriend had the Meatballs which he thoroughly enjoyed. The ambiance was nice, under candlelight, not too loud and relaxing. Will go back again!

This is a relatively small and modestly decorated place but our food experiences have been outstanding. Service is friendly and efficient.

Many customers seem to be known by the staff. I expect that Gambrinus has developed a solid neighbourhood clientele who prefer uncomplicated, good tasting food served without artistic pretension.

Our regular restaurant

There are very few quiet, comfortable restaurants on the North Shore that one can go to. After a busy day at work and not wanting to cook, Gambrinus is our resturant of choice. It is always QUIET, which is a must, when you want to have a nice converstion, and the food is always good. The winelist has recently been upgraded and is appreciated. We tried several of the new trendy places such as Deuce, and they are waayy too noisy for even us 40-somethings. Gambrinus is just good food, great martinis, friendly staff, and local.

I went here last sunday. The food is absolutely delicious I didn't expect it from this place...It kind of looks a little out of place in middle of a small neighborhood.
The interior is nice and clean, it has a nice atmosphere with a little bar in the far corner and nice tables with wine glasses on all of them.
I noticed the place was packed and the waiter and the other woman (I am guessing the owner) they knew everyone.
On sunday they had prime rib night, It was awsome the food was very filling for a very good price all under $15 for one meal.
The service was awsome they had incredible staff, they were continually checking on everyone all night.
Overall I really like this place already I plan on returning again and again, and I will be recommending others to do the same
