Fatburger, The Last Great Hamburger Stand serving Ricky's Famous Breakfast.
This new restaurant serves both Ricky's All Day Grill Famous Breakfast all day, as well as your favourite Fatburger menu.
Fatburger is one of my favorite burger chains. An upgrade from Wendys or Burger king, it's a lot pricier but you get what you pay for. I went to this location several times and have been satisfied with solid service and great food. This place has the best onion rings... crispy on the outside and soft, melt in your mouth on the inside -- the best part is that they're not greasey at all. Same goes for the burgers -- no grease, just meat =) Try the milkshakes with a burger to make it a true diner experience =)
I went with Mrs. C to get some food here and I have to say it was not the best. I like Ricky's, don't get me wrong. Fatburger is another story. We arrived and the place looked okay. I liked the diner retro look. The place was clean so that was good, too. Then things went wrong.
Our server came up and asked for our order as she gave us the menus. Sorry I don't speed read. I also noted that they only serve Ricky's items during limited hours. Okay, a burger then. Then when we had made choices the server seemed to disappear. Finally she returned to our dimension and we ordered. We both had the fat combo. I had rings with mine and Mrs. C upgraded to a milkshake.
The food was not the greatest. The burger was small and tasted kind of weird. I can not identify the flavour. The fries were good though, as was the shake. The onion rings were tough (how do they even do that?), and not good. When I tried to get a refill on my bottomless beverage, I once again experienced the incredible vanishing server trick. Arghhhh!
I think I will go to a real Ricky's next time.
I've been here a few times, and when they first opened, I found the first couple of visit bumpy. I have read the reviews, and do agree with the service not being super friendly. They get my order right, food is hot but once you got your coffee, they can ignore or forget to ask if you would like a refill.
I haven't eaten their burgers, only been their for breakfast, and so far the food has been good.
I do like their scramble eggs, hash brown, mulitigrain toast, its been a good meal. I even like their pancakes and will ask to get no whip cream or fruit on it, and I find their pancakes fill me up. Coffee is good, I only wish they would come around more to fill up your cup.
I am a burger afficionado, so I've been trying to hit up all the well known burger joints such as Vera's, Red Onion, etc. Now I try Fatburger and I was dissapointed in similar fashion to the other well known burger joints. By this time I was actually expecting it to be just like the others as they are always mentioned in the same breath so I wasn't too surprised.
OK for the food - the onion rings were a bit bland. The fries were nothing great. My burger I had actually just tasted like a super size version of a quarter pounder from McDonalds. They use processed cheese (blech!).
Again my biggest issue is there is just nothing special that sets these burgers apart. Anyone could slap these together at home in 10 minutes and get the same result. The choices of toppings are basic and limited, there is no special sauce of any kind. I would say even Vera's has this beat as you can at least get some interesting things on your burger there.
So I give the food 2 stars as the burgers pale in comparison to say a BC burger at White Spot, a four cheese burger at Milestone's, or a banzai burger at Red Robin. If you think places like fatburger are tasty please try some of the burgers I mentioned at other places. Maybe it's just personal taste.
Service was a bit quirky but fine.
Only good thing is the prices weren't too bad compared to something like Vera's, which is a total rip off.
I wouldn't complain much about having to eat here, but I doubt I will be back.
We hit Fatburger for breakfast last weekend, ordered the eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast and orange juice for a decent price. Everything was well prepared. Should have asked for the shredded hash browns cooked on the flattop and not the home fries which are deep fried and too greasy. Service was good, food came relatively quickly. We'll come again when we feel the urge for a big breakfast.
Went for breakfast at this location this morning and it was very good, I had the 2four 5 platter ithink it was called
2 eggs 2 bacon 2 sausage 2 toast and 2 waffles and everything was tasty and only $9
My companion had a veggi omlette with hash browns with toast and she enjoyed it as well.
Service was fast and attentive, I thought it was a bit slwo to get the food but I was hungry, but the volume offood and quality made up for the seemly slow prep. But in hindsight it more then likely was the result of my hunger and I was full at the end. The decoration is a bit moer upscale compared the the other fatburger, I guess that is the Ricky's influence. The combination of the 2 menus enables the restaurant to make as much money as posssible out of one location good thinking. Great execution!!!
I will be back when I need my next big feed of breakfast.
We were there a few months back but I totally forgot about it until now. After reading some of the reviews for this restaurant, I guess it's a hit or miss. We got lucky and it was a HIT.
The burgers are hot, tasty and huge. Onion rings are crispy and fresh which is unlike the one on Denman (don't go there!!!). The only thing I have to say was their service, the waitress is far too busy chatting with customers and not enough attention to other tables.
In general, Good food, Bad service, OK value and Interesting retro decor. Maybe we would go back one more time.
We were really looking forward to the opening of the North Shore location of Fatburger; we've been a fan of the restaurant since visiting it in Las Vegas seven years ago -- and enjoying the downtown location in Vancouver's West End for the last couple of years.
Sadly, our North Van Fatburger experience did not live up to expectations.
For starters, our waitress made a mistake on our order (she forgot one of our group's meals), so that when our food came up, three of us had our lunch, and one of us had to go without. Obviously, this was awkward. Ten minutes later, the rest of our food finally came up -- albeit without apology from management of staff.
What made the poor service scenario stranger was that the restaurant was practically empty, yet there was plenty of floor-staff on hand (except for in the kitchen strangely, where one poor fellow was taking care of all of the cooking!)
The food was solid; but we did we have complaint: The portion of the expensive chili-cheese fries was small, and the cheese unmelted.
Here's the final kicker: when I approached the manager about my bill (which was the source of some confusion), I mistakenly used the term "original" to describe the regular Fatburger we had ordered. She proceeded to scold me: "What do you mean? We don't sell an Original here! That's White Spot!!"
Well, thank you for the smackdown, lady. But next time I need a Fatburger fix, I'll be down on Denman Street, where service is efficient, staff is friendly, and management takes care of customers when dinner goes sideways.
We decided to visit this place for breakfast on Father's Day. We went in a group of 6+1 child. We arrived and the wait of 10 minutes for a table was reasonable. We sat down and were promptly offered beverages. We placed our orders shortly after and we SAW the waitress right the orders down properly so we figured we were going to be different then the other reviews on here. Boy were we in for a surprise. Coffee refills were prompt the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time all before I food arrived. Food finally came around 40 minutes after we ordered. My Father-in-Law mentioned that it seemed to be taking a long time and a waitress came over and very rudely pointed out that we had a HUGE order and that was why it was taking so long. Oh Thank-you for stating the obvious. The 3 men in our group on Father's day all got their orders delivered wrong. One order had bacon forgotten and toast that came 12 minutes later, one order had eggs prepared wrong, and my order was simple,I ordered a Classic Benny and I received a BC Benny. Um HELLO, I didn't even see a BC Benny on the menu. Instead of the Ham with the classic I received Bacon and processed cheese. Good but not what I ordered. A different waitress came over and offered to remake my breakfast however I didn't want to wait another 40 minutes for the right meal. Just a little side note to all the restaurants out there. If you would like children to behave please feel free to ensure that their order is brought out first and not absolutely last. Overall I found this experience to be frustrating and will NOT frequent this establishment in the future. Just goes to show that these reviews are VERY accurate.
We ate at the FatBurger in North Vancouver on a Saturday night. In all, it was really good. It was 5:30 and not busy yet. Cute and clean diner style decor, fun music from the 70's and 80's, the servers were prompt and courteous, the burgers were just as they said, juicey and generously garnished with lettuce and tomato. The fries were your basic fry but they were not greasey. Two adults and one child cost just under $30.00 including drinks and one dessert. I liked it because it was a small resturant, unlike the big White Spot or Red Robin where it is noisy and busy. I will definately go back! Yummmm!
After reading the reviews here related to poor service, I was reluctant to try this place but I really wanted to see what the burgers and onion rings were like so I went anyway. There were only three other customers inside when I entered. Sat down, had a look at the menu, and ordered a fatburger combo with the upgrade to rings and a chocolate shake. Not a difficult order by any stretch. The server entered my order on the computer screen that was no more than two feet away from my table and as she was entering the order, I reconfirmed with her that I wanted the combo with rings and a shake to which she nodded.
Well, can you believe it? My order arrives via a different server and it was a fatburger with fries! I told her that I had ordered mine with onion rings. She gave me a look and said she would deal with it. I could see into the kitchen from where I was sitting but couldn't hear the exchange between her, the cook and the original waitress. The cook dumped the fries, and reached into a bag of frozen rings to take some out.
This is where I got off. I gathered my belongings and started to walk out the door saying, "I have to go."
The server has the gall to say to me, "Aren't you going to pay for your meal?"
I'm sorry, but the idea of hot onion rings and a cold burger did not appeal to me.
And I won't be going back, Fatburger or Ricky's!
The restaurant was very busy...good for them...but the attitude was not so good...poor hostessing.
So we wait and wait and wait for the burgers and what for? Boring? Plain and expensive for a thick Big Mac - (they have more taste)
The order to go was nightmare .....was not ready was not ready was not ready - did not have milkshake with it was charged double.
WHAT HAPPENED TO RICKY'S? That location did not need to be improved - it WAS great.
Wow! Way to much Hype over this place. I have had better burgers at many other joints. There was nothing special about this burger. Heck it was slow and they still screwed up my order. We will not be back
I don't know how this place got famous for their breakfast. It wasn't bad, but definately nothing special, considering it cost almost $30 for two people. We both ordered the basic breakfast (2 eggs, bacon and hash browns)....pretty hard to screw that up right? The bacon was undercooked, which I guess some people like, but if they're going to serve it that raw, they should ask if you'd prefer well done. Plus, they're tiny little strips...not what you'd expect for a $9 breakfast!! Everything else was ok, but lacking on quantity. Good thing we're not big eaters, because we both ate everything on the plate and would have left hungry. They do offer bigger breakfasts, but only if you want to pay $12. This is a bit much in my opinion. Plus the coffee is $2.50. So over all, the food was edible but way over priced. The service was good, but the waitress was rude when we told her it was "ok, but not great". We have been here for the burgers before and they were expensive but good. We won't be back for the breakfast. Try Moodyville's if you want a good breakfast on Lonsdale.
My FIRST visit to Fatburger/Ricky's was VERY good (Oct 2007).After that, I have been there a couple more times. The service is definitely down since Feb 2008. Our last experience was TERRIBLE...from the "new but old" unfriendly no-eye-contact waitress to the terrible breckfast, which we waited for more than 35 mins (the restaurant was only 1/3 full!) and everything was luke warm. The butter would not even melt on the pancakes! The fat on the sausages were already coagulated and the bacon was over cooked! Though we complained and paid, no apologies were made. In fact, the "new but old no-eye-contact" waitress even had the adacity to looked annoyed at us! We also heard from other customers that there is a "creepy" manager lurking around, but we did not see him? Would I go back? Maybe.
When I stepped into Fatburger, every instinct told me to turn around and leave. It wasn't the ambiance. The place is in good shape and is well lit in a cheerful aura. But there was something about vibe that I did not like.
Wait staff was awful. They weren't rude or anything like that, but they just didn't seem to know how to wait properly. Drinks came quickly, but when ordering our waitress didn't really seem like she liked her job too much. (not that I blame her).
The creepy manager (at least I think he was the manager) was the one who made the vibe even worse. I don't think he left the kitchen at all. He had a window, though, that he looked out of. And he used that window a lot. And he kept watching us. Now, a manager does oversee things. I get it. But with the intent that he watched us, I felt sudden paranoia and had to examine my burger before I ate it.
The burger was alright (although not terribly dressed considering the number of condiments that were supposedly added) and the fries were sparse but tasty. And from where we sat, we had some entertainment while the ineffective waitstaff messed up repeated takeout orders. "Where's my salad?", "Where's my drink?", "You gave me iced tea, I wanted a coke", etc. I'm pretty easygoing and forgiving of order messups, but it was almost embarrassing.
So will I eat there again? Probably not. I would like to try another Fatburger downtown to see if it's a different experience. I do say if you do want a Fatburger, do yourself a favour get it to-go. But be sure to check over your food when you get it as they might have forgotten something. Just saying from my own experiences.
