An Italian restaurant located in the heart of Edgemont Village.
My husband and I make it a habit to go to our favorite local bistro at least twice a month. The servers are always very friendly and welcoming. It is one of the few restaurants that have a good wine by the glass selection. The food is consistently very good. My favorite is spaghetti bolognese and my husband's is the veal limone. The meal starts off with a complimentary appetizer which is the chef's creation and this is followed by some bread. When we indulge in desserts, we often have the chocolate mousse which is excellent. It is without hesitation that we recommend this restaurant.
We've dined here a few times and thoroughly enjoyed each visit. Tonight, I started with an amuse-bouche of salmon, then a crab and lobster bisque and and a wonderful crusted halibut entree. It was a perfectly cooked filet of fish with subtle crusting, cooked through but moist. A small piece of mascarpone cheesecake with berry puree and whipped cream brought the meal to a satisfying conclusion.
My partner had pan seared prawns with cranberries in a grand marnier sauce and an entree of veal scallopine with wild mushrooms in creamy demi-glace. She thought the sauces unusually good and asked about preparation. The server, proud to talk about the kitchen's techniques, said excellent sauces resulted from careful reductions done very slowly. Her only complaint about dinner was that the tiramisu dessert was too large to finish.
Service was excellent and they offer a good selection of wines by the glass or half litre along with a number of half bottles. That is a good response to today's super tough driving rules where a second glass of wine with dinner rules out driving.
We had dinner here on a rainy Friday night. The room is lovely with orange red walls, nice paintings on the wall and a room with subdued lighting i.e. not bright but not so dark that you can't read the menu. It was a very busy evening and the wait staff were kept very busy.
There is a tremendous mark up on their wines. We had a half bottle of J. Lohr red and it was $29.00. We're aware the of prices on many of the wine since we have bought many of them on our trips through the Okanagan and their profit margin is very hefty.
The food was good, not exceptional. We shared an appetizer of mussels in a chile cream sauce and it was very well prepared. It was nice and spicy and the mussels were plump and flavourful. For dinner hubby had the veal scallopine with mushrooms and I had beef tenderloin with a peppercorn sauce. We both substitued pasta for the potatoes and vegetables at an additional charge of $4.50. The veal my husband had was tasty, the penne arribiata that he had requested as a substitute was super spicy. He really enjoyed it. My beef tenderloin was a very generous serving. I gave a very generous amount to my husband and I still couldn't finish my steak. I had requested my steak rare and it was more of a medium rare but it was not overcooked enough that I felt I should sent it back. It was good but seemed to be lacking any seasoning other than the peppercorn sauce.
One policy Edge Bistro has that I do not agree with is the charge for spliting dishes - $2.00 for appetizers and $4.00 for pasta and entrees. The mussel appetizer was $18.00 which I felt was a bit on the high end. Usually in places that are bistros you can get mussels and frites as an entree for this price.
I might return if I was in the area or dining companions wanted to try this restaurant but there are so many really good Italian restaurant in the lower mainland that this would not be first on my list.
My girlfriend and I went here on a Saturday night for our anniversary after being unable to make a reservation at another restaurant. I had eaten here twice before and enjoyed it both times and it was close to home so we decided to go. As the title says though this visit was a disappointment. Just want to re-state that I DID enjoy my first two visits to Edge so hopefully this was just an off night.
We arrived at 7 for our reservation and immediately things started off sub-par as we were put right at the back of a restaurant at what was clearly a make-shift table squeezed behind another regular table. I asked if we could move but our server said they were booked up.
To be fair, our server and everyone who came by our table that night was really good so no complaints there.
We started off with a complimentary amuse-bouche of salmon which was good as well as a half litre of Summer Hill wine. More on the wine later...
For starters I ordered the Bocconci in Carruso in marinara sauce. Not bad, but not great. Really couldn't have told the difference if I had bought frozen store bought ones. My girlfriend ordered a salad with pecans and brie. Again, not bad but not great.
For our mains, I ordered the Gnocchi Salciccia. The gnocchi was really doughy. I can't say for sure it was frozen but I wouldn't be surprised. My girlfriend ordered the Ravioli Cardinal which I had recommended when I was there before. I sound like a broken record but one more time, ok but not great.
For dessert we both ordered the tiramisu which turned out ok but was more like a dry cake rather than a moist tiramisu.
To top everything off when the bill came I saw they charged $35 for a half litre of Summer Hill Wine. Having been at Summer Hill in the summer myself I know a full bottle of the red we ordered is no more than $25. I know restaurants charge a mark up but this was ridiculous. I recall reading a review where someone else stated the same thing.
I wouldn't say it was so bad I'll never be back but it definitely won't be near the top of my list next time I'm taking someone out.
I was in Vancouver recently attending a conference with two other coworkers. I am from San Diego and get to Vancouver a couple times a year. I love the city it's so beautiful but to be honest I did not have a good experience with most of the restaurants I tried on my previous trips. I decided to ask few locals for a good Italian restaurant. That's how we discovered The Edge Bistro!
The ambiance here was lovely. From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed and warm. The colours are rich and the temperature was perfect. We were seated straight away even though we did not have a reservation. I ordered dungenees crab meat with basil for appetizer and pecan crusted salmon with orange sauce. It was absolutely delicious. The freshness of the ingredients was apparent. The dessert menu looked very tempting but we were too full to order any dessert. I really loved the food and my co workers were as charmed as I was. The server was helpful and attentive but not overbearing. I am so happy to find a good place to dine next time I visit Vancouver again. Definitely recommend it.
This was our first time having dinner in Edge Bistro. It was highly recommended to us by couple of friends so we decided to have dinner there with friends celebrating my husband's 50th birthday. There were 15 of us and I was really impressed by how great their service was. Servers were very friendly, the food was absolutely delicious. they brought all our orders at the same time. Our family really had a great time and enjoyed their food and service. Even the owner came and had a quick chat with us ensuring that we were satisfied with our food and service. I can say it was the best Italian restaurant that I've been in Vancouver.
We went to the Edge Bistro for a family celebration this evening. When we arrived, there was only one other table occupied (it was early, around 6:15 pm). Our server seated us promptly, and took our order promptly as well. My son and I both ordered Chicken Marsala with a substituted pasta side. My husband ordered the fish special. After ordering we waited and waited for the server to bring bread. She was busy chatting with the other server behind the bar (there were still only two tables in the restaurant occupied). My husband was trying to get her attention to no avail. Finally she brought bread and one of their usual complimentary pate appetizers. She apologized for taking so long to bring it over, but then made a joke about being so busy. When our food arrived, we noticed that they had prepared Veal, not Chicken Marsala. I don't eat veal. Our server apologized again, said it was her mistake, mumbled something about a computer error, then said she couldn't blame it on the computer, and took our plates away, leaving my husband with his fish. He awkwardly began to eat his meal. I asked that our pasta side dishes be served to my son and I so we could eat something together. It took some time, but they finally brought out our pasta side. The pasta was good, but I would have liked to eat it with my meat. After about 15 minutes or so they brought our Chicken Marsala (just the meat and sauce). What was left of our pasta was quite cold at this point. While we were eating, the chef (I assume) got into a fight with our server in the kitchen, which was easily overheard at our table. Awkward. To make up for all the problems we encountered, we were offered complimentary desserts, but were so uncomfortable at this point that we declined. We asked for other compensation, and management decided to comp our pasta sides (the additional $4.50 each that was added to the $21.00 cost of the Chicken Marsala) and take 20% off the rest of the bill. Okay, but it sure didn't make up for a very unpleasant evening. The food was good, but at this price, ambience and good service mean as much as the meal (as does getting the right meal in the first place). We liked the Edge Bistro, but we won't risk encountering another lousy evening like this one. We won't be back.
Edge Bistro is my favorite place to dine. We dine there at least once a month and it never disappoint. Last night I had their especial, bread crumb crusted Halibut stuffed with crab meat and baby shrimp and my husband ordered grilled prawns, scallops, capers that we shared. It was out of this world. For dessert we had my absolute favorite Chocolate mose and creme brule. Their desert is probably the best I had in Vancouver. Even at Tuesday night they were packed. Servers are professional and caring. The prices are very reasonable with such fine quality food and for us it proved one more time that it well worth the drive up to North Vancouver.
I went here with on a corporate lunch with 20 other people. The food was very well prepared and delicious. The prices are very reasonable (especially for lunch) with such fine quality food. Service was good. No complaints and will defnitely go back again when I'm in the area.

Given that there aren't many places to go in Edgemont, it's pretty good. Pluses: food is good, well presented and fairly priced. Minuses: the winelist is wierd, with a lot of wines I have never even heard of, and I am fairly experienced. The markup on the wine is WAY too high for a neighbourhood restaurant. It might be a good idea to mention the prices when listing the specials. We were a little surprised when the bill came. I would skip dessert, I doubt they are made in-house.
Excellent service for a tiny restaurant in the heart of Edgemont village. When I asked about which wine I should order our waiter brought me out 2 small samples to taste to help us decide. We were givien a tiny complimentary appetizer and some yummy homemade foccacio bread with a balslamic dip. We order a ceasar salad with a home made dressing. the salad was quite good, we also had a clam appetizer in a sundried tomato, pesto suce.it was very good. for the main courses my husband had the Newyork steak. It was quite tastywith a unique taste on top[I am guessing sme kind of cheese like blue cheese plus a peppercorn sauce. I had a crab and shrimp pasta dish. it was very good. We had a lady constantly bring us fresh water, our waiter checked on us many times. The atmosphere was very nice. The place is dimmly lit so if you have trouble reading a menu like we did, bring some reading glasses with you,or a tiny flashlight! apparently on friday nights they have live entertainment,so i am looking forward to going again to check that out. I definetly thougth this place had class and great service. I recommend trying it! Nice place for a special meal. I would not bring your children though, too small of a place and more adult oriented.
It was our first time choosing a restaurant from dinehere.ca and the other reviews were right on. The restaurant has a cozy and welcoming feel. The food was delicious, and shawn was a perfect host. It was a great introduction to edgemont village for us too. We will definitely be back!
We arrived to a bustling Edge around 7pm last night and were promptly greeted at the door by a smiling handsome young gentleman who happened to be our waiter (Gavin?). We had called to make reservations quite late, and were accommodated the best that they could. We were sat in the middle of the action, and knew we were on a time line as it was my wife's birthday and were meeting friends. I ordered the Risotto, my wife ordered the Lobster Ravioli (no wine last night but what a list!). After ordering, we were brought fantastic fresh bread along with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette, and pleasantly surprised by the amuse bouche of Asiago cheese along with pineapple salsa and balsamic reduction. Our waiter was highly attentive and not overbearing; this accompanied good conversation about the Edge, it's history and how long it had been there. 20 Minutes or so our meals arrived. My wife was delighted by her Lobster ravioli (fresh Parmesan and pepper) and my Risotto was excellent; however I found the scallops to be a little bit overdone.
We have never been to the Edge as we are new to the area; it did not disappoint. We will certainly be back on a night with more time, it's great to know that the food and people are just around the corner!
I went to this place for dinner with my husband and a few friends, and was completely impressed with the experience. The music was downtempo, the ambience was relaxed, and all 5 of our meals were wonderful. Be careful about the temperature of the plates though, I almost burned myself as they were put on the table (the server did tell us though). The service was great and our server was very knowledgeable about the wines we selected. If you
e in the mood for a relaxed meal, this is the place. Will be back for a Christmas dinner!
Yes the food is solid...fantastic even...delicious! Great preparation and presentation. So if the dated interior doesn't turn you away, well you're in for a great dinner. The house is packed and the menu is a good size. We were offered many specials that night! Maybe 4-5, one of which was the dish I selected. Service was lacking as the men seem quite flustered and some people just got tired of waiting and left. I came here based on others' reviews and glad I did as ultimately we go for the food. Enjoy!
We celebrated my friend's 44th birthday last Saturday night at the Edge Bistro. They had been to the Edge before and had a really great experience, both with the food and the service. My husband had the Edge martini to start and the restaurant kindly provided me with the recipe so I could make it as a belated birthday surprise for my friend (we all had a taste of it and we all really enjoyed it.) He also had the lamb for dinner which was perfectly cooked. I started with the featured salad which was mixed greens with beets and bocconcini and the featured halibut crusted with poppy seed. The portions were very generous so excellent value. The fish was also cooked to my liking (I sometimes find restaurants slightly under cook the fish.) For dessert my husband had the creme brulee and as they were out of the cheesecake, I had the Edge martini which they gave me for the price of the cheesecake ($1 off which was a nice gesture). The service was great. Not too friendly (which drives me nuts - you're my waiter, not my best friend!), but very professional. The room was nicely decorated and the stemware was brilliantly clean. Again, marked up stemware or "foggy" glasses is another pet peeve of mine. The only comment is that the entrance to the bathrooms is quite dark. I was worried I might have ended up in the mens room.
We would definitely make a return visit.
I took my Mother to The Edge Bistro for a Mother's Day dinner. It was excellent! I had the lobster ravioli and my Mother had the sesame crusted halibut with veggies and mango salsa. My ravioli was the best I have ever had, but my mother's was not hot, which I would have returned to be fixed. She said it was still really tasty, which it was. The fresh bread that they make there is so delicious! The service was great, and I will definitely be going back soon.
This was our second Christmas Dinner at The Edge Bistro for 14 people. The dining room had beautiful Christmas flower arrangement, what made the atmosphere just perfect. Our waitress was warm, welcoming and attentive. We did not have a set menu this time, we ordered all different kind of food, which still came out in the same time. My rack of lamb was cooked to perfection. Everyone loved the food. You should try it, too!
Try their Tiramisu cake, you never find the same taste in town.
Every time I have been there they had delicious specials.
Make reservation to make sure to get in on the weekend.
I recommend this place to everyone who loves quality food.
