The District is a New York-style eatery with beautiful brown banquettes and an open kitchen lined with a bar. They feature a cheese and meat plate to share and enjoy with wine, and also specials that are featured on the chalkboard at the entrance of the restaurant.
Went to The District on Friday for lunch with some co-workers. We made a reservation for 12:30 and showed up to find that they hadn't even bothered to reserve a table for us. We had to wait until 1pm to be seated.
The waitress was friendly enough and came to take out drink order quickly. She also informed us that out of the 10 items on the lunch menu, they were out of stock on 3 of them. Taking the total number of lunch items down to 7. They were also out of avocado so the salad on the menu was not complete.
We quickly placed our drink and food order with her as it was now 1:10 and we had to be back in the office for 2pm. Drinks came quickly. Food was another matter. We waited 30 minutes for 4 paninis and 2 orders of eggs benny to arrive. When the food finally did come it was delicious but we barely had time to taste it as we had to quickly scarf it down and head back to work.
The food was definitely the saving grace of this restaurant experience. Not recommended for a lunch with co-workers but I might go again on a weekend if I didn't have somewhere else to be in a hurry.
then this is the place for you. But I wasn't that impressed. my friend and I went there recently for dinner-had 3 small plates we shared and a drink (one non-alcoholic) each and that was lover 40 bucks..which i found to be WAY too much for too little food (1/2 of which was so spicy i couldn't even eat it) The service was very nice and i can see going for a quick drink but the menu was really limited (and $$$) and the inside not that comfy. I can't see myself going back anytime soon.
Started with the inept, clueless manager. Worst attitude from a server I have ever experienced and the service was appalling.
I was celebrating a major event (success) with my business partners when the young, teenaged waitress decided to make the focus of the evening all about her. The only problem I could understand that we were a gregarious group with a couple of 'large' personalities, we weren't that loud or anything and even apologized to the table beside who assured us we were not disturbing them, etc. The other table beside us, joined us and we were all having a nice time before the waitress lost control of herself. Maybe it was her first day?
I was so infuriated that when I complained to the manager I blurted out that the waitress was an idiot.
Overhearing this, the waitress leaned towards me while I was speaking to the manager and said to me
"how old are you" in a sarcastic, teen-ager-like quip.
The manager did nothing, couldn't control her staff and asked us to leave the restaurant after paying the bill. I can respect a manager that backs up her staff members... But to have handled the situation with aggression and attitude lacked tact and of course humiliated and embarrassed our entire party. I was in disbelief when the waitress continually attacked us (after the situation got a bit heated) Again, how old are you comment didn't resonate well with me being in my mid 40's.
I will never again be a patron at The District, Little District or El Matador which is ironic considering the literally thousands of dollar$ I have spent at these establishments over the last year or so.
Disappointed. Disgusted and Deplorable or the words I would use to describe the behaviour of the staff.
So disappointed in this restaurant tonight. Completely gone downhill since last time we dined here. Food was cold, low quality- kitchen was slow, though restaurant was not busy, waiter was inattentive and uninformed, food was cold, music was bad and ambience was nil. Too bad, Paul this was a complete bomb, will not be comjng back anytime soon and will let friends know. You need to pay attention. Kind of sad actually.
Nothing worst than having staff that obviously doesn't want to work. WItress to guests arriving they had 1 hour to eat and that at 3pm, they had to get out!! Unbelievable. Never checked on the food, too busy doing nothing, too lazy to set up patio on a beAutifull hot day. Will never return
I just had worst food and serves in my whole life, tasteless food and bad FH staff. we were so happy to go there but we left very disappointing ,crab cake absolutely taste like bread crumb cake and mussels were salty over cook .rude server ..she just hate her job .only good thing was there beer list and solid ambiance.save your money
Went in here with my family and my mom, my mom had gone and said the food was great. Wasn't sure how we'd be received with two children, but the owner came up to us and said we were most welcome, and he was happy to have families come in. They don't cater to children in that it's not the type of place with chicken strips and grilled cheese. But we found food on the menu that they loved. My daughter had a cheese plate with lots of delicious french cheeses. She was in heaven.
I loved the food, the atmosphere is nice. Yes it's not White Spot, the tables are small. But I found it very comfortable none the less. Only downside is the door opening and closing makes for cold air coming in if you are sitting near the door. But they have now taken over the space next door and expanded the dining area...I have to go back to check that out.
I have nothing bad to say.
Went here this morning and had the best brunch I've had in months.
Didn't wait more than 10 minutes for the benny. Different hollandaise sauce. Had some sort of spice in it. But great.
Server was back every few minutes to make sure we were good.
Might have been cause my bro was flirting with her.
Cool funky beat and jazz.
Gets my stamp of approval for sure!
A friend of mine lives on the North Shore and suggested we meet here on a Tues night. I was impressed that the place was busy for an early weeknight. We sat at the bar and shared a few items.
District mussels, fresh and flavourful. Crab cakes nice but a little on the small side. Cheese yes cheese. yum. It was great that we were able to choose the accompaniments. The service might need some work, she was friendly but when I asked about wine and a couple food items. She would say she was unsure but this might be what the item is like???? Strange.
Overall this place is worth a drive over when meeting friends in the hood.
Went here today for some eggs benny. Perfect.
Had a great time, but noticed some ladies beside seemed chapped that they had to wait for the 1 cook on duty to make their food. Go to McDonalds of you're in a hurry.
When I want great food, I'm willing to wait for it.
I'll be back, I want to try the brunch bowl
I went here twice this week! Went for brunch with friends on Sunday and was sooo blown away by the quality and the pricing. I had the Benny that had sausage on it ( I don't remember the name) but it was awesome!
Took my boyfriend back on Monday night and was ok to wait a few minutes for a table cause they were full. I had a Stuffed Chicken and he had the Steak. Both were delicious. Our server helped us pick out a great cocktail for me and a beer for my boyfriend. They have over 25!! He was in heaven.
The room is really nice, and there are no TV's! And in terms of bathrooms this one should be nominated for the Georgia Straights Awards. Wow can I have this at home?
I have to say of all the restaurants I've been to..this one ranks up there! Definitely worth the drive to North Van!
