Crispy Poulet is proudly the first Persian "Halal" fast food restaurant in North Vancouver. Crispy Poulet offers a wide range of delicious foods including Pizzas, Fried Chicken, Chicken and Beef Donairs.
It's a Saturday night and all the family are out with friends so I'm on my lonesome for dinner. Had a hankering for some fried chicken but we've been disappointed by the local Colonels and Churchs lately so my options in North Van seemed limited. I remember seeing Crispy Poulet when I was down on Marine Drive so I jumped in the truck and popped down to check them out. One side of the restaurant is a takeout counter with kitchen in the back and the other side is a fairly large 8 table dining area. It's a Persian establishment with some of the appropriate decor and seems to be a family run business with my order taken by a 12 year old girl. Cool.
The menu is pizza, chicken and donairs (beef or chicken) with few vegetables other than pizza toppings, wedgies, onion rings and a couple token salads in sight. No "three piece dinners" but they do have family size combos of pizza, chicken, pop and sides. Not knowing what I'm doing and too hungry to take the time to figure it out, I ordered a deep fried feast of a 2 piece chicken ($3.50) and onion rings ($3.50). They asked if I was in a hurry and I wisely said I wasn't, so everything was fried fresh and took about 15 minutes (not sure what I'd get if I was in a hurry).
Both the chicken and the onion rings were still nicely crispy even by the time I got home. The rings were thin and crispy and quite good, but the serving was more of a family size so I made a gallant effort but only managed to eat half (came with ketchup and hot sauce). The chicken was a drumstick and a back, not the best parts of the chicken but still enjoyable for the price. The coating was mildly seasoned but very crunchy and the chicken was moist and delicious.
Overall, the chicken is quite good and I think we'll try it as a substitute for our occasional takeout from the Colonels (15 pieces is $22.95). Think we'll add a salad from the grocery store to round it out though.
Mrs. C and I were looking for chow and we saw this place. We scampered in and checked it out. The place was simply decorated and it could have been a bit cleaner. Service was good, although this is mainly a takeout place. The friendly manager told us his family also owned the local Fresh Slice location, so the pizza is probably about the same as at that place. We stuck to chicken, with side orders of wedge fries and onion rings. The chicken was quite good and the fries and rings were gigantic portions. As for value, it was cheap for the quality and the portion sizes. Overall a good choice for chicken. I will be back to try the pizza soon.
