Cazba restaurant serves authentic Persian food. Sumptuous dishes of melt-in-your-mouth meat, savoury stews, and vegetables infused with delicate herbs and flavours mark Persian food as a dining experience unlike any other.
My gf has been bringing me takeout from here for nearly a couple of years now and only recently did I finally make my way here to dine in with her.
The location is tucked away off Lonsdale but from what I've been told, it's almost always extremely busy. They have more floorspace next door so larger groups can dine without bumping elbows. At the main site, the tables by the front doors are quite cramped together to maximize seating capacity but the loud ambiance drowns out most nosy patrons. They do what they can with the space, but on a cold rather night it's a bit off-putting.
Even with the limited table space, we ordered quite a few dishes for the two of us. My gf's lamb shank (baghali polo) was braised to a fork tender and came with a lima bean rice scented with dill. I ordered a combination meal which came with one beef and one chicken kabob, served with grilled tomato and rice (bakhtiari). The kabobs were simply made with little seasoning and perfectly cooked with both our entrees chased with the apparently ubiquitous shallots and yogurt (mast-o moosir). In addition to that, we ordered an accompanying dish called fesenjoon, which was a pureed pomegranate and walnut mix topped over white chicken meat. It was an interesting mix of sweet and tang and was really a meal in itself. Portions are more than generous as you get a large amount of meat along with carbs.
Our server was one of the friendliest we've had in a long time, especially given the full house. It wasn't anything over the top at all, but he certainly made us feel welcomed.
Simply put, this is my kind of comfort food.
Looking for a place to try some Persian food and from the number of customers, this looks like the place. Seems to be always busy during lunch and dinner. Tried it for lunch during the weekday. Same menu for night and day. Tried the steak kabobs and it was very good. Nice big portions and very tender, it came with a grilled tomato and rice. If you want half salad and half rice, a small extra charge. Also had a taste of the chicken which was very good. Good service with several refills of water. Place is not too fancy but people are here for the food. Most items are around $10, so very reasonable. Would come back.
We wandered by this place one time and there was a line up of Persian looking patrons outside. Even though there are plenty of alternatives around the block. There was even a car load of people dropped off from Washington. We saw people coming out laughing, happy, some carrying extra bags of leftovers. We were suitably intrigued so we came back for a try.
Not disappointed! Inside kind of looks like a casual fine dining place a bit. At least clean and well done here. The service, very friendly and paid attention to our requests. Very acceptable for this level of restaurant.
The food is more or less the usual mid level Persian fare. Kabobs and a few stews. Hard to go wrong, so we ordered a bunch of stuff to try. Oh yes, there was goodness here. The food actually took a while compared to other places, which I will generously assume to mean they prepared it fresh (the restaurant was fairly empty when we came it promptly on opening). It certainly tasted that way. There was a couple of unique tastes to "old classics" but more or less it toed the line. What carried the day was simply execution and quality ingredients. Though there were one or 2 dishes that some of our party preferred elsewhere, there was not a disappointment to be had. Very yummy stuff. And we had plenty to bring back for another meal as well.
I'm still looking for a "high end" Persian place, but until then, this place is another highly recommended destination. Just be warned, it does get busy quickly.
I tried a wrap from this food truck on Robson called Cazbah Express. They have a few simple choices. Three kabab wraps available: koobideh (beef) $5, joojeh (chicken) $6, and barg (steak) $7. I had the koobideh. It was very good spicy meat. But i wish it had a little more meat. The wrap in total seemed to be lacking volume compared to some other wraps along the same corridor. But it was good and very tasty. I would try it again.
Sorry, but this address is for a Chinese Noodle restaurant...Cazba is actually on 16th just off Lonsdale about 1/2 a block. The food was great, thank goodness our friends were already there and were able to direct us to the restaurant because I had relied on this site, oops. The saffron ice cream was a great finish!

Although there was a line up. we were seated in a matter of minutes.
Even though the restaurant was full, the service was fast, efficient, always with a smile and exceptionally polite.
Very very reasonably priced and above all, the food was delicious, salads tasted fresh, just right and taste and tenderness of the meat was perfect. Big portions too!! Th two of us could not finish it all and had to take out the rest.
The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant was of happiness and contentment.
Lots of polite service staff always whizzing by and never short of service. If you like authentic Iranian food, you should go.
If you are not Persian/Iranian, you might want to ask the server in detail what your meal would look like as there are no "pictures" of the meals on the menu. There is a TV screen depicting what meals look like at different intervals. Did not see any alcohol being served.
In short, a great dining experience.
