Excellent Evening With Good Food

Came here with a friend and we had the "All You Can Eat Fish and Chips" (unlimited pop also included) plus we both also had the 4 piece prawn special for $1.99

Per order they give you generous portions of fish (6 pieces I believe) and they are decent sized, sometimes though you can get some pieces that are too battered (though most of the pieces you get are great) the prawns were terrific (and cheap, but it's only a promotion for the rest of the month)

Our waitress was great...she was helpful with us and attended our needs

Presentation of our food could had been a little better, but for $11.99 all you can eat, it doesn't really matter

Don't come here though expecting White Spot Fish and Chips, but honestly, for "All You Can Eat" for $11.99 it's a real steal, and a much better deal than White Spot

A quick and tasty Friday night dinner
By EarlPearl of North Vancouver (30 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, January 21, 2012 - 1:17pm [Dine in]

So it's Friday night and everyone has plans later that evening so we decided to pop out early for something a bit greasy...... we'd been eating mostly sushi, broiled chicken and salad dinners that week. Loaded lovely wife and #2 son into the car and headed for C-Lovers next to Save-On. We hadn't been there for a few years. The restaurant was only half full although there was a steady stream of takeout customers coming and going, clutching their newspaper wrapped parcels under their arms to shield them from the wind and the rain. At 5pm the customers were mostly seniors which as I recall seems to be a popular time for them at C-Lovers.

We grabbed a window table and ordered right away. Our server was fast, friendly and efficient. We picked a 2 piece cod dinner, a 1 piece cod dinner and a 2 piece haddock dinner. Everything came fresh from the fryer with mounds of fries and coleslaw. Their slaw is crisp, fresh and not overdressed like many...quite refreshing. Fries are home cut, crispy and taste like....wait for it....potatoes.....just the way a frie should taste. The cod was moist and delicious in a thin, light and crispy batter that wasn't overly greasy at all. The haddock is a thinner and firmer filet that carries a bit more batter with it but both were very tasty with malt vinegar and tartar sauce from the table containers. We were comfortably stuffed and not with grease. Next time I might try a 1 piece halibut with a side of their mushy peas.

Decor is what you'd expect for a chain restaurant with high turnover....simple and easy clean. Dinner was done in 30 minutes for $50 including tip. Quick and tasty....no complaints. One of the best fish and chips on the North Shore.

If you like fish and chips then you have to give this C-Lovers a try. They offer Halibut, Cod or Pollock and it all tastes great. Every time I order from there its perfect and its usually ready in about 5 minutes. A perfect spot lunch or dinner. Give this place a try and you'll be pleased I'm sure.

Good promotion

C-Lovers ran a take-out promotion for 4 piece of halibut plus fries and cole slaw in the newspaper for just under $25.00 after taxes. Well worth the money. Portions were large and the food was delicious. The place was plenty busy when I went to pick-up but my order was ready at the agreed upon pick-up time. Tempting smells coming from my f&c packet. It was all I could do not to rip it open and partake while driving. But what the heck safety first.

Where's the fish!

Sorry, but when I order fish and chips I want some fish with my chips. The pieces I had of halibut were embaressingly small. It was greasy, probably because it was mostly batter, and tasteless, probably because the batter is just flour. Weak fish and chips. Hint to improve: start by cutting your halibut in such a manor that it is mostly fish and not mostly greasy batter. Deap fried flour and potatoes should not cost $15.00 an order.

To Infishity and beyond

I've had my eye on this place for years because they have an all you can eat fish and chips deal but somehow I never managed to try it yet, or it was busy when I did want to try. I am a sucker for the all you can eat deals, knowing that I will never leave feeling ripped off by a small portion.

So obviously I tried the all you can eat fish and chips. It is $10, and includes bottomless pop, and is available until 3:30 every day (and all day some other days). Fish and chips isn't the most exciting food in the world to me, so I'm probably not every going to give it some amazing rating. It was good enough, and hit the spot for a nice big craving of deep fried food. The only thing that really sketched me out was that the tartar sauce is in bottles just sitting at the tables. I wouldn't think the sauce would keep that long so it made me a bit nervous. I guess it's ok though as I didn't die and they still seem to be in business.

Service is casual but friendly and adequate. Subsequent orders of fish and chips came quickly.

To me this place is all about the value. All you can eat and drink for $10, can't get much better than that. I think I ate about 10 pieces of fish. Obviously prices aren't nearly as good for regular menu items but I'm not there for that.

The place was pretty casual, you seat yourself. It's clean and nice enough for what it is. My only real complaint was it was a bit of a windy cold day and every time the door opened we got a good chill.

After I ate there I said I'd probably only return once a year, but it's been about a week or two now and I already feel like going back for some more.

WHAT HAPPENED to this place

It use to be good. The fish was larger and had flavour and the batter was crispy and not the soggy bland fish that I got. Are the chips now frozen and did they change from hand cut?
There are other places around that are worse and there are other places around the are better. I think I'll try somewhere else from now on. I just hope that it's not one of the worse places.

Bets fish and chips I have encountered in the Vancouver area
By zapatista234 of North Vancouver (10 Reviews)

Absolutely the best fish and chips I have had in the Vancouver area. For about $7.00 I got the one piece cod and chips, and I could have easily split it with a friend. The chips are homemade, the fish is fresh, the pieces of fish are large, the batter is perfect and not too thick or falling off. Nothing is oversalted. It has a decent sit down area, but of course for fish and chips I almost felt I had to do take-away.

The menu is fairly limited to fish and chips, but they had halibut and cod. Also some oyster and prawn dishes that did not interest me.

Overall, if you're in the area, a must try. If you're not, it's worth a drive.

Love C-lovers

My bf and I have been here a couple of times, C-lovers is a chain and we have been to others as well. The food here is always fresh, you can (if you really want to!) watch them fry the fish and fries. They have platters which can be shared, I believe in North Vancouver its the "north vancouver" platter, you get fish, shrimp, onion rings, a bun, fries etc. It's a pretty good value, and it's good to share. The price for the food you get is great. The service is pretty good, the ambiance is like a cafeteria, seats everywhere and its usually pretty busy. Love the fish.
