The bear is an awesome neighborhood place that has super friendly staff. The review i just read about this place that said they don't have wings and "pub grub"? They have a few different types of wings and nachos and some other things....i think they just missed that part of the menu. The kitchen at the bear from what i've seen is VERY tiny! So when its a super busy lunch or dinner the wait for food can be a long one, but the waitresses are friendly and will usually chat it up while you wait. if you havn't been there then go!

Great pub food

My favourite local pub (with a few complaints...) The food is really great - I like almost every item on the menu. Good burgers, wings, nice salads and great yam fries. My major complaint is the wait. Be prepared to wait on a Friday or Saturday night to get a table. Sometimes, when it is just 2 of us we have to wait a long time (or we give up). Service is usually good but they are so busy!
Nice ambiance and I'm glad there is no more smoking on the patio.

Great Pub Food

I have been here a few times and love the food. Both the breakfast quesedilla and the regular ones are great. If you like pulled pork I definietly reccommend the sandwich. One thing they lack is reasonable drink specials, but otherwise you must try this place.

I've been going to the Bear since they first opened and I have to say that its one of the best pubs on the North Shore. The food is always good with a wide selection for both vegetarians as well as carnivores. One of the tastiest items on their menu is their chowder. Yummmm!! The service was good and prompt. There is not usually a seat left in the place if there is a hockey game on, but hey, what do you expect, its a pub!! I would recommend the Bear to everyone and have done so.

I'm somewhat reluctant...

... to recommend this pub, only because it's hard enough to get a table on any given day of the week as it is and I don't want to make it any harder. However, I can't in good concience let this fantastic joint go unreviewed. I worked in the restaurant industry in Vancouver for 10 years at such restaurants as Earls, The Boathouse and Macaroni Grill (yeah I know these are chain establishments but they're decent establishment and they truly emphasise service) so I feel I know a thing or two about the business. I don't think there is a better casual restaurant in town. I've been there many time as I live in the neibourhood and I can honestly say I've NEVER had a bad experience. The service is amazing. Consistant beyond all reason. It doesn't matter if you walk in that place two minutes before close, you are guaranteed to be looked after with sincere enthusiasm. Teamwork is the key. You'll never hear that familiar refrain "I'll tell your server..." when you dare ask someone other than the person who took your order for something (and heard in so many lesser restaurants). The food is excellent (pub fair to be sure but done with style and creativity), awesome pulled pork sandwich and the thai curry mussles are the best value in any restaurant in town... bar none. Do yourself a favour - check out the Black Bear (but stay away when the Canucks are playing - you'll never get a seat)
