I love the lasagna and the pita with tzatziki, but I hate going to the restaurant. The service is mediocre at best, often very slow. EVERY time I go they screw up someone at the table's order, and are very rude about it. Getting it delivered is even worse, as it often takes over an hour and a half, sometimes 2 hours for the food to come, and again, they screw up a lot. One time I tried to get take out, and the waitress picked a fight with me when I asked her why it took an extra 40 minutes on top of the 40 minutes we were told it would be (it was because they screwed up our pizza, surprise surprise.) I really like the food, but the service is so bad that its not worth is.
I don't know if I would call Andreas an "Italian Restuarant" but it's definately got some "mediterrainian flair". The food is pretty standard but the pizzas are classic: tasty, cheesy, greasy goodness. Andreas is a bit of a North Shore tradition, it's open late and usually steadily busy, give it a shot for the pizza.
I love the pizza at Andreas and despite the warnings I've received about the ingredients and questionable cooking methods I still stuck to it and kept ordering from there. For one I knew I wouldn't have to wait too long for my pizza (as I would have to if I ordered from my all time favourite pizza place down the street) and I knew that my pizza would be exactly the way I've been ordering it for the past 15 years.
I can't say I've ever had GOOD service from there but I've accepted the fact that this isn't the place to expect much in that department. Well last week I HAD IT. How can a simple take out order be such an inconvenience for the server? I simply had to make a note for the delivery driver so that they don't go to the wrong address by accident. Well I got HUGE attitude on the phone because I was "adding information" to my order. I actually snapped back to ensure that the information was noted (quietly praying that my pizza didn't get spit on). My delivery driver was the sweetest man ever but man oh man I don't think I can take this attitude any more.
It's been a while (almost 10 years) since I have lived in Nvan, and we used to go to Andrea's a lot. As I couldn't remember the address, I had to google it. Thats when I though I should see what the reviews have been like. Some mentioned "Marginal Service", slow service, etc. I can say that our Lunch yesterday was fantastic. Service was above Par. And the food, mmm, just as I remembered it. Ordered a Lg. Hot and Spicy Pizza, and our other guest had the Alfredo. Seriously, they make the best Pizza, and as I finished the last quarter of Alfredo, it was also fantastic. Prices are great. I don't know if the previous commenters 'comments' have/were taken into consideration/applied, but I have no qualms referring Andrea's. In fact, I'm looking forward to my next meal there (as I'm living back in Nvan)
After reading reviews here, we were hesitant to venture into Andreas, but do know how easy it is to post negative opinions so decided to try it. Totally enjoyed our meals - a great selection at reasonable prices - and so much food. We all took food home with us. Service was great, a very casual atmosphere which families can
enjoy at ease. Glad we came in, and we will be back. The lovely fresh loaf of bread given us as we left was such a bonus!
I LOVE their meat-lover's pizza. A small will feed two. When you bite into the pizza, you can see the layers of salami and pepperoni. Loaded with cheese and crumbled meat. This is my favorite pizza place in the country. Just a tip: if can't eat there and you get their pizza for take out or delivery, be ready to pop it into oven for a bit to warm it up and crisp it up (It does get a little soggy traveling). It stores and reheats beautifully though. And darned if I don't want to get myself one now that I've talked about it... be right back...
...I'm back. Okay, anyway, about this restaurant.
Their food is pretty good most of the time. My favorites include their calamari and souvlaki (I mentioned their pizza, didn't I?).
I like their steak too, it's decent. But in all honesty, it's not that great - when I want a good steak, I go to the Keg. But this is where I should probably talk about their other great strength - VALUE. Their steak is generous, comes with onion rings, mushrooms, fries, salad and a huge piece of garlic bread. All their portions are very generous. The value from this place is outstanding.
The only disappointment I had from this restaurant so far is their pasta. Believe it or not, I was just over-cheesed. They put so much baked cheese on top... it was almost all I could taste. It was so thick that it formed a sort of unpleasant, sort of rubbery layer. I couldn't finish the dish. The pasta underneath was only mediocre too. So I would stay away from their pasta.
I take friends and family here all the time and so far, they have all enjoyed it. BUT... this is not a place I would take a date. The restaurant itself is really old and pretty run down. It's not as clean as it should be. There are tacky plants and decorations everywhere. And the restaurant has a mild odor... I describe it as kind of like candle wax. I have no problems with it but one or two people I have brought there find it unpleasant. Even from the outside, it looks a little sketchy... okay a lot sketchy. I suppose it is a compliment to the food and value that despite this, I return regularly with initially skeptical (but usually content in the end) guests in tow.
The service is normally pretty good. One or two times, I have encountered a snooty host (NOT hostess - host - the girls working there have always been great). A few times there was an overly friendly waiter / supervisor who was just a little too chatty and intrusive. But that's maybe four incidents over the fast *five years* and I come back here fairly regularly.
So, there's my two cents. A decent place. If they renovated (which I believe they are doing piece by piece. For example, their bathrooms are state-of-the-art, brand-new and beautiful. A stark and almost humorous contrast to the rest of the restaurant) and tweaked a few of their dishes, they could be great! They are also open till the wee-hours (like 3:00 in the morning) so they can satisfy your hunger pangs almost any time. Give it a try and remember...
although Andrea's may not be what it used to be, it's still a great place to eat, drink, and hangout.
occasionally a sense of humor may be required... and they don't always have all the beer on the menu, but the food is great, and cheap! I've also noticed a recent staff changeover. New staff, are very cute, polite, and charming in comparison to servers of the past. But to those of you who find comfort in the man with the mustache, don't you worry, he's still around.
and if they occasionally get grumpy, try giving another human a break, the servers have a lot on their plate. (pun intended)
p.s. the plants are real!!!!!!
Do not eat at this restaurant. The food was absolutely disgusting and my pizza had "rotten" shrimp on it. It had that old rotten fish smell, when i opened the box. I took one bite and almost puked. When I called to complain they offered me "an in store credit" not a refund, and the person on the phone blamed the other staff for keeping old shrimp..."i don't know why those guys do that" he said.
When i called the next day, Denise was completely, rude, unhelpful and talked in a downward tone towards me the entire conversation. I had to ask her three times to take my name down and she finally did. She kept asking me irrelevant questions that only made me more aggravated, rather than take my name and number and have the owner call me. I guess that's how they deal with a complaint, by having the customer say "its not worth the hassle", so they don't pursue it..
She said they don't keep the receipts so getting a refund would be difficult....i don't even care about a refund now, and I hope i don't hear from them again.
This review is enough.
The service is super slow, and if you are ordering take out..DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ORDER!! They have messed up my order. The best value if the pasta and chicken combo $15 for a whole lazania and a 1/2 chicken with 2 sides. The pizza- you need to pick it up with a bunch of napkins..its that greasy. Good place for after drinking grub, or hangover leftovers, but that it
The drinks are good and strong.
Highly recommended pizzas, baked pastas, and steak.
The service isn't stellar, but it's not sub-par, either. As a nice gesture, if you ask for it, they will give you a free loaf of bread to take home.
Value is always good, particularly for the quality/quantity of food. Particularly good value during the month of March, during which you can get a steak, baked potatoe, onion rings and garlic toast for $9.95 (steak month).
Ambiance is about average for a greek restaurant. Nothing tacky, but nothing to write home about.
Overall, highly recommended.
I highly reccomend thi family owned greek restaurant. You get great food and service for reasonable priced food. I have had them cater a large function in the past and there was no difference in the great tast and abundance of food. You can substitute items off of platers and they don't care, unlike Mythos who tells you to pick something else because the kitchen is backed up and does not like to deal with it. Andreas is a great place to each and enjoy the evening. The owners come off a bit grumpy but that's really not the case. As far as the other reviews saying that they are rude, I know they have been screwed over in the past by dine and dashers, so maybe they recognized you from before. I highly recommend this place to everyone and when they go they start to recommend it to others. P.S. Get the greek platter for two, it can feed at least four($38)!!!
This is deifinaltely the best restaurant in North van and ive tried them all. The food is of the best quality, especially the steaks, i was talking to the owner, who still at 70 puts all his effort into the place, and he tells me that everything there is made fresh everyday. they have 3 fulltime cooks there to just prep for the place. I hate going to restaurant and eating "out of the bag" food. As for the ambience, sure its a bit dated however currently they are going thru a huge retrofit. I can wait till its finished. Sometimes service is a bit slow, but the honest truth is, not only do they do the "dine in service" but they are for sure the busiert delivery restaurant on the north shore, which is great for if u dont want to go out u have them come to you and with such a diverse menu u can have pretty much whatever you want.
They also have a great liquor list with some awesome drink specials. Honestly the only place i go to have drinks, cause i just believe it to be a rip off anywhere else. At andreas u can get a highball or bottle of beer for just 2.50 what a deal
Definately a great restaurant, family owned and cared for and great food, definately worth the wait on those extremely busy nites
keep up the good work guys and ill be ordering the greek platter again soon
Andreas used to be a pretty great place. These days, I find it to be old and tired. The food is still okay, but the quality isn't keeping pace with the price. The sitting room is run down, and in serious need of an upgrade. The staff are still nice for the most part.
I don't dine in anymore, just order pizza now and then. What keeps me coming back is their 10 topping pizza. Delivery is pretty slow most of the time, but the pizza is a winner.
Overall, you should probably look elsewhere.
