Tried this place for lunch and at first the restaurant looks pretty good with new carpets, TV's and very bright. Upon further inspection, the place is not well kept as the tableclothes have old food stuck on it as they don't seem to change them after meal or even after a day. Extensive menu mainly of greek food plus your pasta and pizza. Had the lamb souvlaki which was just Ok, the skewer of meat was quite small, meat was average, good greek salad and average rice. Not a bad price for $9 but would rather go across the street and have the kabobs at the Persian restaurant (twice the meat at about he same price). Companion had the french onion soup and said it was bad, too salty and not warm enough, also the mixed salad was pretty plain. Servcie was average but the wait time was a bit long for lunch. Overall, don't come here.
After reading reviews here, we were hesitant to venture into Andreas, but do know how easy it is to post negative opinions so decided to try it. Totally enjoyed our meals - a great selection at reasonable prices - and so much food. We all took food home with us. Service was great, a very casual atmosphere which families can
enjoy at ease. Glad we came in, and we will be back. The lovely fresh loaf of bread given us as we left was such a bonus!
Me and my wife used to go here alot.
Don't get me wrong the food is good and
Good value. We used to love the atmosphere
Run by an italian family. Good staff. But in the
Last couple of years ill tell you things have totally
Changed. The last 3 times we went there
The service was a nightmare and the waiters
And waitresses just don't care whatsoever
They probably make minimum wage.
The last 2 times we were there they
Totally got our order wrong and made us
Wait without being apologetic.
The owners the husband and wife used to
Be caring individuals but they no longer
Seem to care about their business eighter.
When confronted they just didnt care no apology
And they jus blame their bad service
On the fact that their busy or their short staffed
If u don want to be dissappoited dont go here!
My husband and I made a $25 order to Andreas on a somewhat quiet Sunday night. No hockey, no football, no reason to be run off their feet busy. We ordered food at 6:30 pm. The surly employee told us it would be 45 minutes. 45 minutes later still no food. We called, and were told the delivery guy was JUST leaving. At 8:15, yes another 45 minutes after we were told the delivery guy had left with our pizza, we still had no food, so we called to cancel our order. The employee made no efforts to apologize or even explain why it had been almost 2 hours and we had received no food, and in fact hung up on us mid-sentence. Then we got a call from the delivery driver, who has been the only employee ever from Andreas to be somewhat competent, and he was shockingly nice. He apologized for the delay, and inquired whether it was true we were cancelling our order. We told him we were cancelling our order because it had been almost 2 hours and we had not received our food. He arranged a conference call with him, the restaurant, and us. We told the restaurant that we refused to pay for a pizza that was an hour and 15 minutes late, but if they wanted to keep our future business they could offer the pizza to us for free as an apology for the trouble we had gone through. The restaurant worker offered to give us 4 dollars off our meal - that was it for 2 hours of delay! When we refused to pay even $1 for the pizza, the restaurant instructed their delivery driver to return the cold pizza to to the restaurant, or he would be fired. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS RESTAURANT. This was the third incident we have had with this restaurant over the years, and this was certainly their third strike. They don't care for your business so why not give your business to a company that would work hard to keep you happy!
This was a great restaraunt, me and my family went out one night, and got a huge platter fro the 4 of us for $22, and it was decent food. There was almost enough left over for the next night. It was filling, and I want hungry till the next days afternoon. After the dinner, we got a complimentary loaf of home-made bread that was left over after the days baking. It was still warm, and very large. The service was fine, took around half an hour to get our food, and free refills. The ambiance was not great, some waiters were shouting to the chefs, and it want very peaceful, but that didn't bother us. All in all, a good cheap night for some good food.
Absolutely the worst customer service on the Northshore!!! Ordered two chicken dishes - both we were told were souvlaki - when the dishes came - one was chicken on the bone - this ws sent back - now we had to sit and wait for the meal! Then we asked to take our remaining dinner home and they brought the take out container to the table for 'us' to pour our own food into - well that made a nice mess on the table and our laps!!! When I originally asked about why the waitress wouldn't do this for the customer her response was 'most people want to do their own because when its sent back to the kitchen you don't know what might happen to the dish!'????? I said - well I would hope that we could trust you!!!!! We then stood and 'waited' to pay the bill and asked for 2 bags for our food - she had to go back to the kitchen??? for 'paper' bags - it's Vancouver - and it's pouring rain outside!!! Geez! Then when I got home realized that we didn't get the garlic bread that was included with our meal!!!! What a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!! I then called the next day to speak to the Manager - when I called I got put on hold 3 times - when I tried to start to explain about the bad service and missing garlic toast - he says - 'why didn't you call last night?' OMG - when you come next time we give you 5 - 5 what - 5 garlic toast - I didn't even get to tell about the service he kept cutting me off or putting me on hold - RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!!! NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!!
I ordered three meals and they said 45 mins. 45 Minutes later they delivered half of the food. It was cold and no better then Mcdonalds... the delivery guy was frustrated because he had to call, which I understand so we gave him a good tip. I then called because half of our meal was missing but we did pay for it and it arrived 2 hours later cold! I won't order again just because you don't know what you will get or when.
For better or worse, Andrea's has become something of a staple on the North Shore. Virtually everyone who lives here has visited or ordered from there at least once, and the consensus is generally that the pizza is pretty good. For the unfamiliar, their specialty is ultra-soggy, undercooked, gluttonous pizza with mounds of cheese and pools of grease. The twin consensus among North Vancouverites is that the service and staff are positively abominable. I can only confirm that with a few anecdotes. Every time I have visited, the service was slow, unprofessional, rude, and, if truth be told, handled by extremely sketchy personnel. It was very common to wait over half an hour to place orders, and wait another 45 minutes to be served the wrong food. The management is unbelievably disrespectful and careless. My last experience with them was being cajoled by friends to place a delivery order for their pizza, as we wouldn't have to deal with the atrocious service and vile decor. Surprise, surprise - the order showed up very late, and very wrong. The complaint I made to their management fell on deaf ears, to say the least. And yet their management spends endless dollars flooding every mailbox in North Van with their crappy and garish mail-out ads. The previous reviewer had it right - Andrea's is a zit on the face of the North Shore.
Love this place. I enjoy a good beef topping on my pizza, and these guys use the best beef topping. I hear it's their steak shavings. Anyhow, I love their pizza, it just can't be beat!
Sure, everyone has had a bad experience somewhere, I've only had the best food and good service from here.
Andrea's house special pizza is what i go the distance for as i live in the tri ciies and would go to north vancouver just for the house special pizza. love it love it love it. The first time i found out about Andrea's pizza is and tried the house special, it was by far the best pizza i have eaten. when i used to live nearby to andrea's restaurant, i would get my favorite pizza at andreas to soothe my hunger pains. the house special pizza fills you up. Even though you may get full, since the pizza is so yummy, you can't help force yourself to eat more. but if i can't, i save it for later which the pizza is still good even if the pizza gets cold.
I've been ordering and eating Andreas food for over 20 year. When the kitchen is on their game, the food is fairly hot and yummy. However, three strikes for the Family tonight. I ordered for delivery and waited a solid hour and a half .Needless to say, the 2 pizzas were blocks of hardened cheese and the 2 lasagnas were dry and virtually sauce-less. The 2 side orders of meatballs with extra sauce and calamari got left behind, so we were left without that needed satiety that a smorgusboard-type order offers. The driver was hopelessly baffled and when I called in to the restaurant the woman was rude and quite vile actually. I sent him with 20 bucks and a promise NEVER to order again. Sadly, I will miss you Andreas, but I will not miss the horrid customer service that I experienced tonight.
Andreas has a good rep on the North Shore, but somehow I never tried it until lately. My loss. The restaurant has a strong Mediterranean theme. The decor is a bit dated, but the place is very cozy. Perfect for a romantic dinner. Martinis were on special (they have daily drink specials) so I went with a crantini. It was smooth and strong. Next came the roast lamb. It was well-prepared, juicy, and not over-spiced. It had the usual sides of potatoes, rice pilaf, and Greek salad. The rice was particularly good. My wife went with the steak, and had a lemon drop martini. It came with a baked potato and lots of fresh potato toppings. I think she liked it, since she gave me the thumbs up (her mouth was full).
The service was reasonably quick and the staff very friendly. For a neighbourhood restaurant this place definitely punches above its weight.
We used to get this delivered on a regular basis when we lived in North Van. Since moving out to the tri-cities our encounters have been either delivery or pick up when having dinner at friends or family. My wife and I decided to take our chances eating in which we stopped doing years ago due to the horrible service. We were astonished at the change there that night. The inside had been renovated from our last visit and made it more open and less den like. We sat down and asked for a piece of garlic bread to keep the kids happy until food arrived. I ordered the drink special (double long island) and boy was it a double. Caesar to start was good. The Pizza and Lasagne is still the same old goodness however we were very surprised in the change of service. Our waitress was attentive without being annoying and even offered us some ranch dressing to dip pizza in without us even asking. When we got our bill it came with the biggest loaf of bread i have ever seen for us to take home. I'm not sure if the ownership has changed or we lucked out and got a great server but whatever the change it was a welcome one and made our family dinner a nice night out.
I go to this restaurant just for this appy... I really like the baked lasagna, good sauce, lots of cheese, the garlic bread is phenomenal. Salmon dinner special is sooooo good! Souvlaki dinners are my favorite, and the pizza, well the pizza is MMMMMMMMMmmmmm MMMMmmmm GOOD! The cleanliness of the restaurant is actually really gross though, most may not notice, but I had 2 year old checking EVERYTHING out and found some really yucky stuff : P, so take home is kinda a better choice, but they are renovating so hopefully that will change. Reliably excellent food, for great prices!
Bonus: they have drink specials, it's a nice treat for people who aren't too picky : )
First off...
I LOVE their meat-lover's pizza. A small will feed two. When you bite into the pizza, you can see the layers of salami and pepperoni. Loaded with cheese and crumbled meat. This is my favorite pizza place in the country. Just a tip: if can't eat there and you get their pizza for take out or delivery, be ready to pop it into oven for a bit to warm it up and crisp it up (It does get a little soggy traveling). It stores and reheats beautifully though. And darned if I don't want to get myself one now that I've talked about it... be right back...
...I'm back. Okay, anyway, about this restaurant.
Their food is pretty good most of the time. My favorites include their calamari and souvlaki (I mentioned their pizza, didn't I?).
I like their steak too, it's decent. But in all honesty, it's not that great - when I want a good steak, I go to the Keg. But this is where I should probably talk about their other great strength - VALUE. Their steak is generous, comes with onion rings, mushrooms, fries, salad and a huge piece of garlic bread. All their portions are very generous. The value from this place is outstanding.
The only disappointment I had from this restaurant so far is their pasta. Believe it or not, I was just over-cheesed. They put so much baked cheese on top... it was almost all I could taste. It was so thick that it formed a sort of unpleasant, sort of rubbery layer. I couldn't finish the dish. The pasta underneath was only mediocre too. So I would stay away from their pasta.
I take friends and family here all the time and so far, they have all enjoyed it. BUT... this is not a place I would take a date. The restaurant itself is really old and pretty run down. It's not as clean as it should be. There are tacky plants and decorations everywhere. And the restaurant has a mild odor... I describe it as kind of like candle wax. I have no problems with it but one or two people I have brought there find it unpleasant. Even from the outside, it looks a little sketchy... okay a lot sketchy. I suppose it is a compliment to the food and value that despite this, I return regularly with initially skeptical (but usually content in the end) guests in tow.
The service is normally pretty good. One or two times, I have encountered a snooty host (NOT hostess - host - the girls working there have always been great). A few times there was an overly friendly waiter / supervisor who was just a little too chatty and intrusive. But that's maybe four incidents over the fast *five years* and I come back here fairly regularly.
So, there's my two cents. A decent place. If they renovated (which I believe they are doing piece by piece. For example, their bathrooms are state-of-the-art, brand-new and beautiful. A stark and almost humorous contrast to the rest of the restaurant) and tweaked a few of their dishes, they could be great! They are also open till the wee-hours (like 3:00 in the morning) so they can satisfy your hunger pangs almost any time. Give it a try and remember...
...meat-lover's pizza.
My husband and I would order the House Special pizza from Andreas and were never disappointed... from the crust to the cheesy topping, we gobbled up our order quite satiated by both the quality and price.
What I found unbearable, however, as the blandness of all the other entrees, including the garlic bread. The service at Andrea's is also way below par, mostly because the servers are busy fighting with the owners. One night, while we were there, there was a very loud argument between one server and the owner's wife... the owner's wife was accusing the waitress for having failed to place a take out order on the spinner ...the waitress had NOT written down the order, she insisted, and wasn't responsible for the order...
This argument ended when the waitress, who was holding our entrees in her hands, threatened to drop the meals and walk out. It was a very busy Saturday night. Needless to say, the owner's wife backed down.
We at our meals and quickly left, never to return. The stress was too much.
Over many years we have dined at Andreas, and a few times we've made the mistake of ordering something other than pizza-DONT! They make an excellent pizza, quite delicious actually, and if pizza was all they did I would give them a higher food rating. Their pastas are disgusting, steaks are horrid, desserts premade, dry, and inedible.
The service is attrocious. They seem to be unskilled waiters handling very large sections. Its next to impossible to get a second drink there-they're losing money on that problem. They make mistakes on your order all the time-and try asking a question about the wine and they will look at you like a dear caught in the headlights.
The room is dirty, filled with tacky plastic plants, that are very dusty. It smells old and musty.
Simple recommendation, order pizza and nothing else from this restaurant, and you will be fine. Try anything else and you're in for an adventure, and most likely not a good one.
This place is an excellent old standby. Their 'Ten Rich Topping' pizza is a real standout. Everything is very good but not great. They are good to keep in mind for pizza delivery. Another perk is that they start delivering earlier than most places (11:30am). This makes them handy on weekend days when you've got the gang over for a few chilly ones and the game!
i have been to Andreas several times and i have walked out happy and full everytime. All the place needs to do is have a staff change over and update the decor a bit. The service which has been lacking the past few times has improved quite a bit. I have ordered delivery many times which usually is pretty good but just order a little earlier than usual because they take a while.
It shouldn't matter what else the servers have to do besides wait on those that are physically in the restaurant. In house customers shouldn't have to sit there and wait for service for 30 - 40 minutes. If the job is too tough, than maybe they should hire others to specifically answer the phones and greet & sit the customers so those others can get service. When calling in to order for delivery, some of those, especially the men, are very rude and I just feel like telling them "Don't even bother answering the phone to take orders" It just pi*$#@ me off. Those that work there should have a chat with the owners and your bosses to improve on all the comments made. I will never eat in or order take out again, because of the service you receive from the people that work there. You may have lost out on alot of others that have been on the receiving end of this kind of service.
