Oily Batter Gushed Outing.
By poweratradio of New Westminster BC (1 Review)

I had the 2 piece Halibut and my wife had the 2 piece Salmon (Wild) and well as the Calamari to share. We were totally amazed as we broke of a piece of the fish to eat and actually watched the oil gush out as we pressed the batter. Both fish samples were the same. The Calamari had a different oil base not easily gotten rid of as it managed to coat the roof of our mouths much like a paraffin wax would.
We tried to save the $42. dollar dinner by removing all the batter and just eating the fish sans batter.
Oh the only lemon I saw in this dining experience was 1 slice which accompanied the Calamari which I can only assume was to cut the wax it left.
A total waste of money the experience was and left us both vowing that if we ever felt like a fish dinner we buy fresh and cook at home as the above experience made us feel cheated and basically unwell with the oil content clearly visible.

Came here the other night after a quick browse through the Royal City Centre. The restaurant is right across the street and at first glance looked interesting. They close at 9pm, my dining partner and I arrived around 8:40pm. At some places staff watch the clock on the wall and if you arrive twenty minutes before official closing time they generally aren't thrilled. No strange looks or attitude here just a warm welcome and menu's immediately.

First thing I noticed, the prices. If you are dining on a budget you can't go wrong here. Full meals for 6.95,
7.25, etc. Actually not sure how they can sell their meals at such prices but I am not going to complain.

I ordered the wonton soup and Vietnamese sub for 6.95. My dining partner had the House Special that consisted of Vermicelli with two spring rolls, two grilled skewers of beef, one grilled minced pork chop and one shrimp salad roll. All of that for a mere 10.50, unbelievable.

The food was outstanding. Fresh tasting, hot and deeelish. My wonton soup was excellent, a nice big bowl with at least six or seven great tasting wontons. I sampled a little of my dining partners platter and it was equally as good, I could eat a plate of those grilled minced pork chops. Our meals came with a very nice jasmine tea at no extra charge.

The restaurant is very clean and tidy looking.

I have no complaints about this place and will be back as soon as possible.

Arrived Wednesday with my dining partner at 5pm. We had never been here before and to our delight it was all you can eat fish and chips for ten bucks night, bonus. AYCEFAC goes Monday thru Wednesday, fyi.

We were quickly seated by a very friendly waitress who took our order of pop and the all you can eat fish and chips. Take note, the all you can eat fish and chips deal features only Tilapia so don't expect all you can eat Cod or Halibut.

Before we knew it our drinks and then dinners arrived in record time. The fish was delicious, perfectly battered, not greasy , pipping hot , nice moist fish. We both were very impressed.

Not sure what people are talking about service. We received some of the best service ever experienced.
Our re-fill drinks came immediately, we were asked if we wanted more fish a couple of times and overall the servers were absolutely outstanding.

Can't wait to head back for more AYCEFAC, may even try some of their other items all very reasonably priced.

Terrible Service, No Apology
By AliSmith of New West (1 Review)

I went for lunch with a medium sized group of people and received the worst service that I’ve ever had at a restaurant. We watched people who came in after us receive their meals, while ours took a full hour to get to the table. When they finally came half of them arrived cold. We received the wrong dishes multiple times, and never received others. We had to ask for water six times before it came to the table, and never received the pop that was ordered. The rolls were hastily made and falling apart.

All of the missing dishes and drinks were still on the bill and we had to pay tax on them because the server couldn’t figure out how to deduct it.

Long wait, wrong meals, cold meals, and missing meals. We didn't even receive an apology for the poor service.

Needless to say, nobody from our office will be eating there again. I recommend that you avoid it as well.

This is one of my favourite Thai restaurants in the area, and yet it is relatively unknown! I've been there many times. The food is inexpensive but very tasty. The atmosphere is not special but whatever. It's also usually not very busy, so getting a table is not a problem and staying private is not a problem either. I meet a girlfriend there sometimes before our date and like how they get us out fast. They do take out as well and I've picked up takeout from there many a time. The pad thai is their signature dish but they have a lot of other dishes as well.

This place definately stands out amongst the other burger joints around. Burgers are generous, the sweet potato fries are addictive and sides and soups are very tasty as well.
I really liked the server for her knowing when to serve us and when to not. She was great and extremely friendly.....
value makes sense. seems like it's all a bit expensive but when you see the food you know why. No regret whatsoever about our food.
we had kangaroo burger and the buffalo. YUMMY.

My family wanted a weekend breakfast a neighbor had mentioned "coming home" we did not feel like ihop or the waffle house since ownership change...(yuk)
did we ever luck out at the "coming home"
we have a 20 month old and a four year old.
we ordered 2 poached eggs pancakes sausage bacon the kick ass coffee toast x 2
and also scrambled eggs and toast for the kids
when the order came which did not take long we were over the moon
besides no booster or high chairs for the kids (which they are working on so no worries)
it was a great time had by all at a reasonable price.
after we paid the tab the server gave my 2 kids kids freezies and they were huge!!
next weekend we are going for the eggs benny!!
this restaurant has a great atmosphere and is a welcome addition to new westminster
the competition is heating up and for new westminster thats a good thing!!
WARNING! this is not your average breakfast place it has mojo!!

Nice tasting pizza. Haven't tried anything else, just pizza. Won't say it's some gourmet or out of this world pizza, but good. Better than most delivery pizzerias.
I've never seen the inside so the Ambiance is n/a.
Delivery guys are friendly and polite. Have always delivered my food on time.

Affordable and best of all lenient.

The phone orders are almost always on hyper drive. Customers who are not aware of the renovations of the restaurant stay loyal by ordering to-go.

The atmosphere inside is actually quite relaxed and suits all kinds of folks - Family/child friendly, great for group meals, romantic evenings, casual drop-ins.. etc. Open later than anything else in New West. The service is attentive and exceptionally polite, though a bit rushed and scattered when the dining room gets busy. Happens.
Ambiance is slowly but steadily improving. And the new owners evidently are putting in a lot of work to improve the dining experience of the patrons.

Value is just unreal + ALWAYS very delicious meals.

Would recommend to anyone who wants to eat like a king on a budget.

I bought a cake for my Dad's birthday here, Reverse Tuxedo cake. I was very disappointed. It was extremely dry and tasteless, there was no cream cheese, no mousse. It looked really nice, and i paid $30 for it. What a sham! This is the second time i've gotten baked goods from this place and both times i was disappointed. You kinda ruined the Birthday experience Bella, thanks. TNT Bakery! Now they got it together. So if you want a nice looking cake and don't really want to eat it, this is the place to get ripped off on cake.

I heard some people say this was the best bakery in New West. Hahaha. Not even close.

The food tasted awesome and was very filling. Service was good, the food was made in a reasonable time and tasted awesome!. The waiter was okay, nothing special she didn't take us very seriously which really put down this whole experience. The burgers tasted awesome but holy f*%k they were expensive!!. This restaurant can move on from its retro look and go into something more modern such as hardwood floors, etc. This restaurant makes a lot of $$ for a family operated business and it would be nice if they slash some of the prices of the menu. Overall i had a good experience there, I understand the waiter might have had a bad day or something. I will plan on going back if im really hungry.

A friend recommended this place to me and my wife and we were amazed at how delicious and authentic the food was. The owner, Raul cooked up some very tasty dishes that had true Mexican flavor. The service was top notch and for an incredible price. Don't be fooled from the outside of this small restaurant, it has a warm family feel to it once you get inside. On the wall we saw that this place has won many awards over the past 10 years now as the Best Mexican Cousine. Very Impressive. If you love Mexican food, you must try this place!

This was my third time at this boston pizza location and I really didnt want to go, the other times I went I didn't get very good service but i was really impressed this time. The new manager Sam was great he came to the table and hung out for a few minutes and really made us feel like we were wanted in the store, They were also pretty busy at the time and after about 15 minutes of waiting for our food Sam brought out chips and salsa which was great while we waited for our food. Our server Leanne was the cuttest little thing she ACTUALLY had knowledge of what was going on which was interesting because at the other boston pizzas in the area they look at you like your crazy when you ask where the bathroom is. I'm excited to go back!

This used to be the Orange Room.

They have 30% off a daily special, usually 2 items.

Tonight it was Okonomiyaki with Tempura & Vancouver roll.

For the Okonomiyaki, you could have it with seafood ( shrimp, mussels, squid ), meat and/or veggies.

This also included Steamed Egg soup/Suomono salad, tempura and for dessert: ice cream or banana tempura.

The Vancouver roll was served hot with a deep-fried prawn inside with mayonnaise.

The decor is very nice and the service is prompt.

We would come here again.

By far the best Mexican restaurant in the lower mainland

I will start this review by saying that I am Mexican. I absolutetly love Mexican food and I look for authentic mexican restaurants anywhere I go. Before I found Ole Ole it was just "ok" eating at other places, but when I finally was recommended to Ole-Ole I was thrilled.

I cannot put into words what the Steak Ranchero did to my dining experience and to my "real Mexican restaurant search". The steak was cooked to perfection and accompanied by an amazing enchilada. I have to note that the owner makes things from scratch, meaning that his dishes are authentic. His sour cream is real mexican sour cream, the cheese is full of flavor, his chorizo spectacular! The beans are beyond tasty, the avocado mixed with tomatoes and the rice absolutely delicious. The green enchiladas are extremely tasty too, I cannot have enough of them.

Pretty much anything you order from the menu will just leave you loving Ole-Ole. I recommend it a million times so, if you are looking for a true mexican restaurant, please visit Ole Ole. It is a small place, but incredibly large and rich in flavor.

My absolute respect to his owner, who will make sure you have a true mexican taste. And besides that, he is a kind and friendly man that will ensure you have a very pleasant time.

Went there alone for dinner one night. Been meaning to try this place for a while now because of the decent reviews I've been hearing about this place. Not much ambiance to speak of, the decor was a little dated and because it's an open kitchen, the air smelled like food and grease as soon as you walk in. The washroom was a little dingy too and looked as if it was hazily put together.

Anyway, I decided to try their pad thai, which was $10, fairly reasonably priced for most pad thai's I've eaten. I was expected a good decent portion, but when my plate came, it was about half the size of what I've expected, more like an "afternoon-tea" sized meal at a Hong Kong style cafe. Half the plate was noodles and the other half was raw bean sprouts which they have probably washed but have not drained properly because there was a ring of water all around my plate. The taste was alright, nothing extraordinary. There were like 5 small shrimps of my plate, which definitely tasted like frozen shrimps, and fried tofu that was quite greasy.

All in all, was not impressed with this place and won't be coming back.

New look and new clientele -- It's gone upscale

At one time this was a dump, but new owners have done an impressive job. Now it is a chic pub with a young upscale customer base. Staff is friendly and they have a smart separate area for private parties, plus a patio.

The dry ribs are excellent. My partner's burger was great, but my steak was overcooked. Next time I would order the burger or pulled pork sandwich where overcooking doesn't matter.

They took the price of the steak off the bill as they hadn't cooked it properly which is good customer service.
There is lots of parking at the back, and you reach the pub via Auckland street.

Great Food/Disappointing Service
By Ila Appleby of burnaby (6 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, July 23, 2011 - 12:25pm [Dine in]

The other day I had lunch here with a couple of friends. It was one of the few days we have seen sun this summer so we were able to sit on the lovely patio. My friends ordered beer and I asked for ice water with lime and a pitcher of water for the table. Our drinks arrived several minutes later and there was lemon instead of lime with my water. I requested lime again and the server said, "Of course and I'll be right back with your pitcher." About five minutes later she returned with a small piece of lime IN HER FINGERS not on a little plate. Who knows what she had touched during the wait time! By this time I had finished my glass of water and she again said she'd get the pitcher right away. It arrived several minutes later.
I ordered the chicken avacado club sandwich on marbled rye with salad. (Why do people who shy away from unhealthy fries have to pay more to substitute salad?) My friends ordered the salmon burger/salad and Greek wrap/fries. The food was excellent! Absolutely delicious!
Two of us ate only half our food and the server asked us if we wanted to take it with us and walked away without taking our plates. When she returned she brought containers and bags for US to pack up our own lunches! What's with that?!
At this point our plates and glasses were empty and we kept waiting for her to bring our bills. Finally I asked for our billS and awhile later she returned with one bill. When she observed us figuring out the bill she asked if it was okay all on one and I said I'd requested billS. Several minutes after that, we got our separate bills.
It was wonderful to be with friends and be able to eat delicious food outside on the patio but the poor service certainly detracted from the occasion. I will eat here again but I will not sit in this server's area.

Love this spot.

Submitted Saturday, June 25, 2011 - 3:36am [Dine in]

I've been going to Ki-Sushi for about year because of the convenient location. I love the new place. I do agree with many people that certain days of the week or hours of the day, the service could be a lot better. There was a time where one of the waitresses had this rude attitude towards a question about certain rolls to my friend... but other then that, they have been very friendly every time I have gone with a few to a quite large group of friends.

I am pretty surprised on the quality of most of their food (well seasoned and decent portions) and essentially the good speed, to me it's not too fast and not too quick, and I actually like the fact the waitress leaves us alone when we are trying to decide on what to order (it's boring and lame to constantly order the same thing repeatedly).

The new location you can see the handful of (dominantly men from what I remember) making sushi. There are enough that I think they have a convenient line-cook style like method, because most of the fancy rolls are just fancy California rolls so I think. some of them make California rolls constantly... The only real disappointment is that their fancy rolls are essentially just overpriced California rolls... the outside is the fancy additional flavor.. and to me it's too expensive just to have a pretty outside of a roll.

I have tried their chicken and beef teriyaki and I LOVE it there - their okonomiyaki is not traditional it's more "Chinese style" as my friends and I call it (so if you're looking for the real thing, I suggest you avoid it). Another thing that has bothered me is that their menu is very inefficient, it would be great if they revised the menu and actually put in detail the contents of each roll (mainly for people who have a few things they are picky about or are allergic to, or even prefer and find interesting). The most inefficient thing of all is that they only have one area to pay - people paying separately, people getting and paying for take-out... It gets very full and having to wait for five minutes or more just to pay is really annoying.
