The 4 of us decided to try someplace north of the river and opted for BC's first capital.
Gino's blew us away, although it appears like a nice small place, the greeting we got and the food that we ordered guaranteed our return for future visits.
we ordered the roast lamb, a pizza and the fish and chips. you know it's good food when there was no talking for 15 minutes during our meal. The waiter was very pleasant and knowledgable and helped answer all of our questions and make substitutions.
the fish and chips were some of the best that i've had in the lower mainland. not a fan of the heavy batter/greasy ones from pajos, i was pleasantly surprised by what they offered here.
and the fries! oh the fries, nice and crisp and seemed to have some sort of garlic seasoning to them.
all in all the pizza looked great, and the lamb was more than enough, that we ended up taking more than half home for lunches the next day.
it's been around for a few years, and clearly demonstrates quality over quantity.
Always wanted to try this cute little mexican restaurant. Disappointed because there was very little of the meat/cheese in the dishes we ordered. Loads of tasty authentic mexican sauces but I practically had to dig to find any meat. The ambiance and service was great. Would not go back.
My husband and I came here for dinner and not very impressed.
We heard there was live music and dancing on Fridays and Saturday's. To some extent there was, however
The band only played for very short periods. The wrong food came to our table and when our food finaly did come, it was somewhat cold as it looked like it had been sitting for a while! The food is by far average, and the service was terribly slow (perhaps because they very obviously very understaffed!) when we left, the young manager had said good night to us and tried to thank us for coming. We obliged and had mention that our food and service was not the greatest. After he tried to apologize and ask us to come back again for a better experience, we said maybe (being polite), as he was clearly drunk and slurring when he was speaking! No thanks! Again, better places to eat the this place...
I've been to all boathouse restaurants, and it's our favorite restaurant over the last 20 years, HOWEVER, this new west location sucks in service! AVOID this location, Port Moody is the best in both food and service. We were having hard time getting hold of the server whole time during our dinner and couldn't reserve the table by the window because they say it's only for party of up to 4 people. The service ruined our dinner for all 6 of us on my mom's birthday. Foods were not compatible to other locations either. They need to clean the grill well before cooking, the over cooked prawn had dirty BBQ grill taste on it.
walking in we were met with a smiling face of a young lady just old enough to serve our drinks, too bad she carried them in her hands and not on a serving tray.
we were dissapointed with the appy a Singapore style calamari...they forgot the calamari! Lots of pineapples and tomato oozing in a starchy sauce.
I was again dissapointed with my main only because the menu stated roasted cashews, they were bulk unsalted peanuts. My friend had the Sirloin with asparagus,it was ok.
Not once were we asked about any part of our dinner, so while paying the waitress at the front of the house I let her and the boss/mgr/owner not sure he did not say :( know that we were dissapointed and not returning.
Sorry there are better Malaysian restaurants out there.
Our regular Oriental restaurant was closed for a wedding so we stumbled on the Ki by accident - it is one of four in this area and we flipped a coin.
Very small food, good service though specially for an Oriental joint but excellent value at $15 each. Small portions so count on that when you calculate value.
The Singapore noodles (I guess that is what they are called) are good and slurpy.
It seems to be very popular with the local Chinese and it filled up quickly after we arrived.
The Ki will now become our regular oriental restaurant
My husband and I have been going to this pub for about 10 years. The manager is great but the staff always is changing. The one review about mixed drinks is right. Always inconsistant and also the glasses are always dirty. I had to ask for 3 in a row the first one had lipstick on it the second a hair and dirt in the 3rd. We usually drink from bottles here. The food was ok nut now they put some sort of weird cole slaw that is just slapped together on the plate with the prime rib. Attitude with the waitress has to go maybe that is why there is such high turn over. They also have a stupid rule about subbing the coleslaw for another side or salad it is not allowed.
For the atmosphere I love sitting by the fire it is a very comfortable feeling.
We saw the sign, 30% off on daily specials many times and decided to check it out. Daily specials for that day were Stanley Park roll and grilled scallop. We also ordered a few items from the menu. The rolls were big and delicious. The sushi rice is pink because they use combination of beet, red cabbage and blue berry juice to sweeten the rice instead of sugar. We are happy with both the food and the service. It was during the week so the restaurant was not too busy and the server was quite nice and informative. We are looking forward to try some of the unique Okonomi specials again.
Went in for my moms birthday this past Saturday with a party of about 20, everyone enjoyed their food and the service was outstanding. The Ambiance was great and we all especially enjoyed the live band playing at the time. All in all the experience was a great one, the only downside to it all was the parking.....which is not really the best no matter where you go to in New West, but other then that I highly recommend this restaurant.
Greek food is not on our list of top 5 favorite cuisines, I doubt it is even on our top 10, but whenever we feel like roast lamb Yianni's is the only place for us. For $14.95 you get a huge chunk of slow roasted, falling off the bone, sweetly caramelized, perfectly spiced roast lamb - you cut into it with your knife and when you slowly navigate the fork to put a little piece in your already watering mouth, you know this is the roast lamb you have been waiting for all your life! Okay, I know I am laying it on thick but it really is that good. The plate also includes rice, potato, Greek salad with bread and tzatziki on the side. I know $14.95 may seem a bit steep, but it's not only the huge portions that make this is a good value but also the fact that it's damn tasty and, for the 100th time, lamb done right.
Besides the lamb, we have tried the souvlaki and the BBQ chicken. The souvlaki is pretty decent, but the BBQ chicken is almost as terrible as the lamb is sensational. Yes, that's pretty bad. We understand that this is Greek not Southern BBQ chicken, so while we did not expect the meat to fall off the bone, we also did not expect it to cling on to the bone for dear life. Tough, dry and just plain awful.
Another thing that draws us to this place is the service. So far we have been served by four different servers and they have all been a pleasure: polite, smiling and efficient. Also the food comes out fast. The minimum tip we leave there is 15% - 20% (more on holidays). The restaurant itself is nice, clean and cozy - everything is blue and white with pictures of Greece on the walls and Greek music playing on the speaker. I am not a big fan of songs playing in restaurants, no matter in what language - but it's not so loud or annoying that it spoils the meal.
So the bottom line - Amazing Roast Lamb & Awesome Service (at least for us).
This is my first review. I felt compelled to submit one because of the almost inedible food I was served at Wok Box. The food was served in a large bowl. Looked like a lot but it wasn't really. For $11, it was about what you would expect to pay at a fast food joint. The food looked good, with fresh vegetables and an appetizing looking sauce. However, it was extremely salty. It was the saltiest food I had ever been served.
If you like salty food, then you may find Wok Box ok. But I don't and won't be going back.
Dined in a few times and enjoyed the Butter Chicken. Decent food and the portions are quite large. Comes with rice included in the cost.
Called to order delivery ("Free delivery" stamped all over their take out menu) and found out that when ordering delivery, rice does not come with the curry. So much for "free delivery" - complete sham.
Menu also says they close at 10pm on weekdays; I called 15 minutes ago (9:30pm) and was rudely told that "we're closing now" and they would not take my order. Not impressed, and will not be going back.
Frankie G's has the Best Clubhouse sandwich in town and the staff are really great too!
Their piled high clubhouse has this great sauce on it, not sure what it is, but it tastes amazing.
I'm always full and always satisfied.... If you feel like indulging grab a gravy for your fries, very yummy.
Thanks Frankie G's.
The place is always busy, but have never had to wait very long for a table. The food is good value for what you pay, and is decent as well. At lunch time it is very common to hear "lucky choice" a selection of 3 items plus miso soup for around $8. Kitchen is efficient as well, be it with sushi or cooked items, they always come in a reasonable time to be in and out in a short work week lunch time.
My husband and I have been coming here for about 4-5 years. The staff are always extremely friendly and say a big "HI" and "BYE". We have tried other places and always compare them to Sushi Tang. We've ordered their vegi rolls, beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, miso soup, yakitori and the California roll. We are not big "fish" eaters as you can tell...They usually send over a plate of orange slices after your meal. The price is extremely reasonable as some other places in new west charge up to a $1-3 per item more than here with less portions. Great place and we highly recommend "Sushi Tang"! BYE! lol
My husband and I went here when we went to visit the hospital. The place looked decent and clean but was freezing inside. The waiter was nice and courteous. We ordered miso, gyoza's and 3 different kinds of rolls. The rolls came with 4 pieces only and fell apart easily. The miso soup was the worst kind I have ever tasted (soya sauce couldn't even save it). The food was over priced and lacked any taste. The chicken tasted like it was heated in a microwave and the ginger was dry. My husband ordered the beef teriyaki roll (he never complains about the taste as he's not picky) but he thought it lacked any taste and did not want to return either. We will not be returning. DO NOT ORDER THE GYOZA'S! Puke! Save your money and have a better experience at our favorite place "Sushi Tang" on 6th and 6th. We've been going there for years and they never disappoint with food, price and ambiance...
They had a fairly decent selection of veggies and sauces, but the meats were kind of limited. And the way they cooked everything in the same sauce meant everything tasted more or less the same, which wasn't bad on the day I visited. Service was friendly and efficient and the value was pretty good. I will likely come back another time.
My Wife & I first came to this restaurant about a month ago. The minute we walked in we fell in love with this restaurant. It has a very homey feel. Our first visit could not have left a better impression. The waitress was so friendly & attentive, our food was brought quickly, it was delicious & the prices compared to other restaurants are fantastic. I asked to speak to the Manager/Owner because I wanted to praise their establishment. He came over quickly & was really appreciative of the Feedback that we gave him. Now when we go there we are greeted by name, & that is a really nice feeling. I have read some of the reviews left by other customers. In my opinion this is an excellent place to eat, in fact my wife & I go there every weekend now for breakfast. Like any restaurant the service is not always up to what some customers would expect, but all in all we have no complaints at all.
The ambiance is awesome and I was greeted by a staff member who was informative in resepct to the various asian cuisine's tey have to offer. I tried the butter chicken wrap with a fresh beer while watching the last little bit of the Colorado Vancovuer Game. Greaeet place! I will be sure to end my next Starlight Casino night with a mean at the Wok Box
Nice family restaurant with good food and cosy atmosphere. This is a third restaurant at the same location in a last few years so I’m hoping "Third time's the charm" as we need more Mexican restaurants in New Westminster. I’m definitely coming back for both dine in and take out.
