Food: tastes like Richmond Sushi. Nothing special. Typical Chinese made Japanese food.
Service: comes pretty quick...but thats cuz a lot is premade so it comes cold. after we put out all our money for the tab, the waitress counted our money rite at our table in front of us! odd...
Ambiance: get a window seat! fairly roomy establishment.
Overall: i dont live nr new west so it is very unlikely i will ever return when in van/rmd we are nr so many other restaurants much better in quality. park in casino lot and dont forget to get a parking voucher!
Their entrance was so hard to find. It's like playing hide and seek.
This restaurant is huge, clean and has the view of the water.
We came here for a bday celebrations and occupied 2 tables. We ordered the regular dinner buffet for approx $25/pp. At first I thought we got to order each items ourselves but our server suggested allowing him to give out the popular items first and then we can decide on the next round. Tons of food came out and our table couldn't finish it b/c we were all girls. But our other tables had some big guys which helped us finish the rest.
The food was decent. Their sashimi is ok, not the best. Every thing else was in good portions.
Service was good. Our server, this late 30's guy, I think he's the co-owner or something, was very accommodating.
It was a good evening.
Our usual dinner gang met up at TG to sample the food. I thought 21 bucks for the economy menu (they have a 27 dollar one for the high rollers) was a bit much, but I hear the lunch is cheaper.
We were seated after a 15-minute wait, despite having made a reservation. It was a nice evening so we didn't mind. The view is awesome, but I doubt most of the diners notice, since this is an AYCE. The decor is quite plain, and it could be a bit cleaner, including the w/c.
The servers were very good, and no complaints on that score. As for the food, it was like that much loved Richmond sushi joint whose name you may recall. They have a decent selection even for the econo-menu, and I recommend the shrimp bomb and the chicken karaage, both of which were tasty. We had sake and beer with our meal, and these were slightly more expensive than at other places.
I might come back for lunch, but not for the dinner. I can get the same kind of meal cheaper at lots of other places.
Food: What other AYCE places can you get this quality of sushi/sashimi? This restaurants compares to nothing, it's in a class all by itself. The menu is filled with options.
Service: Prompt and helpful,
Ambiance: Nestled in the heart of New Westminister, this hidden gem has a beautiful view overlooking the water. The tables are not too close, although last time I went, there were a bunch of kids screaming, which dampened the atmosphere a little-but nevertheless, I will go back!
I HIGHLY recommened ths restaurant...simply irresistible to all sushi lovers.
For my family that is...
My family goes here for lunch when we have guests that are craving sushi. The lunch AYCE is only about $12 which is spectacular for the amount of food you could order. Though the menu is typical of a Japanese AYCE, the food comes fast and it's pretty good. I've always experienced great service when coming here, our table was constantly being cleared so it was easy to re-order when we needed to.
The ambiance is fantastic, especially the view. After eating you can walk around The Quay to get a load off. The restaurant is quite nice itself. Clean, spacious, and might I say a tad bit fancy? Good sushi, good price I recommend this place to people who want exactly that.
PS. For the first-timers looking for a way in, the entrance is outside. There are winding stairs leading up to the second floor.
Myself and 2 friends decided to hit this place up.
After about 20 minutes figuring how to get into this place (the mall is locked up tighter than any prison) we sat down.
They offer 2 menus,a "deluxe" and a regular.
Tthe only difference I noticed was unlimited sashimi and the "salad bar".
Salad bar.Gross. Shell on cold prawns. Never seen these at a Japanese place before.
Iceberg lettuce,edamame,and..Kimchi?
Go figure.
Anyways,on to the main food.
Good God.
Rolls were sick.Like the kind that have been left out for too long.
Not to mention the $3.50 EACH glass of soda!!!
So,for 3 people, each with the deluxe menu and 3 soft drinks,a large and small Sake,$150.00.
Screw that.
I would rather have paid the chinese family fishing from the pier to slice up some of their Fraser river catch, than eat here again.
Obvioulsly people from New West have lower standards than anywhere else.
My wife and I and another couple went for AYCE sushi for lunch. The food was prepared fresh and fast. The hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. We stuffed our face with yummy sushi and hot dishes that we had problems moving...or at least I did. The various sushi was well prepared and the price is right. Would recommend to friends and will return in the near future.
I have had dinner here a few times, and it has always been pretty decent. Service wise, I have never had a problem here. Service is prompt, and they don't "forget" or reduce your orders. Tea and water is refilled in a timely manner as well.
The food itself is typical AYCE japanese food quality, not great, but not bad. I like their deep fried foods the best actually, their shrimp bomb and deep fried scallops. The quality of their sashimi is pretty hit and miss. I have had it come out pretty fresh to pretty gross.
At $25 a person for their deluxe menu, its pretty hard to justify it as a good value. The ambiance is nice as you have great views of the water, but the restaurant itself is not so clean.
Maybe I'm getting blase about food... not! I guess I must be spoiled then because this place, while offering all the essentials, left me unimpressed. The service was friendly enough, the room is large and has a view of sorts, the food was alright, but the experience, in its entirety, was utterly forgettable. I guess this shouldn't come as a big surprise, the joint doesn't hold itself out to be anything more than it is-an all you can eat sushitorium-but still, howse about a gimmick or a something to plant in my brain to help me remember I even ate there, and maybe even go back? Decent. I hate decent.
Me and anyone I bring here (to the hard to find staircase) loves it. The sashimi is fresh and a good selection, the rolls are tastey and don't taste or seem pre made, the hot food is actually hot and the service actually SMILES and TALKS! Plus the view over the quay is awesome. We usually go for weekend lunches, and have never had a bad experience (except if you count when we were celebrating after my triathlon and I ate about 500 bucks worth and they stopped coming to us, which is a bit understandable), and we love the dinner for occasions, since it is just over 20 bucks. Definately good if you want a calmer, tastey ayce experience.
this place is incredible. the barbecue chicken wings are super juicy and tasty. me and my boyfriend ordered 24 chicken wings and we loved it. the sashimi was really fresh and the price is fair. we had the deluxe dinner menu and it cost us around 33$ per person. the surrounding was very comfortable and we loved watching the dawn view of the restuarant.
best all u can eat food around that area. we had a really good experience.
As u can tell from my ratings this restaurant is okay in aspects to its food, service, value and ambiance!!!
I' ve been here a couple of times, I don't have any real (pardon the pun) beef with the restaurant, but like any other restaurant there is always room for improvement.
FOOD: What u pay for is what u get!!!!!!! The lunch menu of ALL U CAN EAT, has a amazing selection of food and for a mere $12, its not that bad but nothing really to rave about either. The Oyster Mokotaki is oily and greasy, the Mackeral Sashimi had fishy smell to it (although) it shouldn't. The Chicken Karagi and Shrimp Ball Bombs were tasty and little spicy(good). The rest of the food was average in taste and appeal.
SERVICE: Was ok, although I think the manager has a problem with a large group of people, because we constanly being eyeballed by him(creepy).
The waiter/waiteress were friendly and always smiling when ever they were at the table, and last but not least they never made a single error on our order.
VALUE: Like I mentioned earlier $12 not bad at all, reasonable price.
AMBIANCE: Some what lacking, the interior has some neat decor, great view of the Fraser River if you are by the window. The bathrooms when I was there were clean, the restaurant not quite so.
Overall, for lunch this is a reasonable eatery, havn't been there for dinner, if you like an inexpensive meal then this is the palce to go.
Been going there fot the past year now and always been satisfied when i leave. Quite an extensive lunch menu for $11.95 and for extra $4 you get all the sashimi you want.Good place to binge on Japanese food.If you're looking for quality, go somewhere else. What you pay is what you get ! Decent ayce restaurant if you're in the neighbourhood.
I've been there on three seperate occassions, and the quality seems to get worse everytime I go. Firstly, this isn't a bad location, nor is it that horrible in ambience or decor. It's a solid place for a restaurant, and the service, though lacking, wasn't all that horrible.
On all three occassions I have been there, we ordered from the All You Can Eat menu. Their selection is okay, and there's nothing wrong with it. My beef (pardon the pun there) is with their food. I'm a fan of sashimi, but I found myself feeling hesitant about eating theirs. The first serving was ice cold, and then as we ordered more (we were a rather large party) it began coming in frozen. In fact, I had to literally place it down on the plate, and let it THAW. I am not kidding here, the pieces were even stuck together. It seems to me that they cut the fish into portions and serving plate when it first comes in, then freeze it (at least I hope that's the order they do it in). Unfortunately this is an upset in terms of quality. Speaking of quality, at one visit I found myself picking bones out of my salmon sashimi. My personal best is a total of 5 pieces of bones on my plate. Consideration should be taken into properly preparing their sashimi, and not freezing it.
With more on freezing their food, the same procedure seems to be done with their beef sashimi. For those of you that do not know, beef sashimi is beef with the outside is cooked just a little bit, and inside raw, it is then diced and served. Our's was frozen, and stuck together. In fact, one of the plates it came on even had frozen pieces of ice from their freezer on the plate. I don't know the specifics of the health codes in regards to re-freezing food, but that is sketchy to say the least. And it tasted bland to boot.
The service? It was okay, considering it was full and there were many orders being slung at the poor servers. They managed to get every order in, and people were satisfied. The servers have a good system of transferring orders to the kitchen, and the food arrives on time. That is if you manage to get ahold of them. Given the context of when I did have the chance to eat there, I can't exactly say service is to be expected on all 5 stars. Nevertheless the experience left me wanting more, hence the two stars.
Other than that, I have had no food poisoning or anything despite their questionable food preparations. My main problem was with their sashimi. Other than that the various other foods they provide are good and satisfactory. I just don't find myself looking at their price and saying this was worth it though. Wouldn't recommend.
Great food, good service, excellent view. We went for all you can eat lunch and we believe that it was a bargain. The lunch AYCE is $10.95 and the menu is enormous. Sushi tastes delicious, any raw fish is incredibly fresh and the hot foods were great. Waitress was very attentive always asking if we wanted anymore, never made us feel rushed. Friendly staff, always reflling our drinks and promptly cleaning up empty plates.
The view of the river is very nice, the decor inside is not spectacular but its not bad.
We have been to Top Gun for dinner as well. Dinner is a little more pricey at approximately $23.00 a person, I find the dinner menu and lunch menu is about the same, give or take a few items.
Overall, a great place, would definitely recommend to others.
jackmeister: I believe the restaurant reimburses you for the parking in the casino lot next door. I think that's how we've always done it. They give you the little ticket at the lot then the restaurant stamps it.
It's a great location in New West - it's right by the Quay so if you go in for lunch it's wonderful for a post-AYCE stroll by the water which is badly needed sometimes. Kind of romantic too at night! The atmosphere isn't the best but I consider it pretty darn nice for an AYCE establishment. I like how airy it feels without the suffocating noise and people around me because the place has a really high ceiling.
The staff go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your meal so that's always a plus!
We've been going to this all you can eat Japanese place since it opened. The restaurant itself is pretty nice with a Fraser River view. The food is tasty & excellent value, their $10 lunches offer lots of choices, I like that the karage is actual chicken wings. Their service has improved lately, now hot food is actually served hot. I like their sushi, and they have a good selection of rolls and nigiri for lunch (saba nigiri, scallop rolls etc are included). I'm a bit surprised at the other semi-harsh ratings... this place is definitely one of my favorite ayce places, and the food quality is high compared to other ayce places (ie because of an open kitchen concept you can see the chefs preparing your food). Maybe we are a bit spoiled in Vancouver with all the good and inexpensive Japanese food choices.
Went there for lunch with 2 others as we were working nearby.
We were seated promptly and the waitress came and asked for our orders.
My friend asked if we could have 6 oyster motomaki. Although the menu said one per customer per order, the waitress accepted the order with a "sure, we can do that".
She also suggested some items on the menu. There was no holding back.I was impressed as other places do not want you to order so much.
We went to the washroom and when we came back to the table, most of our order was there.Really fast service.
The view of the water is a nice change from other restaurant.
This is the weirdest Japanese All you can eat restaurant in Vancouver. Ambiance wise it has no Japanese restaurant feel whatsoever. The food is ok but I felt that it was kind of greasy and the sashimi comes in small bites and doesn't seem the freshest in the world. Service is decent at best like your normal and typical all you can eat restaurant. Not really recommended
while it's never been a favourite this restaurant seemed tolerably decent enough at first and while the service itself is still ok, the food is getting worse. I went with my family and friends and we knew that the restaurant isn't too good but chose to go there anyways because it's easy to get a table and have time to sit and chat. In the end I didn't think that it was even worth that because of the poor food quality. Ate very little and left feeling very unsatisfied.
