Tried Thai Jasmine tonight while looking for a restaurant open past 9pm in the 6th St area... We love the Reach but didn't feel like it tonight...
The place is small but nice, and the service was prompt and friendly...
I ordered Pad Kee Mao which is Thai flat rice noodles with chicken (or beef) tofu, egg, and vegitables with garlic/chili/sweet basil sauce... It was excellent! I had a similar dish in Thailand, and this was about perfect!
My girlfriend had the Pad Thai with prawns and it too was very good... The portions are fair and the prices are reasonable...
Definitely worth a try! I've often felt bad for them driving by and seeing Hons next door lined up and only a handful of people in here... Seriously people, Hon's ain't what it used to be (I still enjoy it for cheap eats) and this place is better than standing in line I assure you!
Give it a shot!
This is a cute little restaurant…they have this delicious dish I think is just called “the red seafood curry”…my friend tried it and said it was good, but not a real curry…I don’t care, it’s hot, it’s got a bit of coconut flavor and lots of yummy spices…I’m in love.
I also like the Swimming Rama, because I’m a fan of peanut sauce. It’s basically chicken pieces over fresh spinach leaves, swimming in this lovely peanut sauce. If you get it as the special dinner entrée, it comes with a side of salad and some soup, and it’s only $8-9, a really good deal. I like it because of all the fresh veggies. The only complaint is that the chicken can be a bit dry sometimes, maybe if they used dark meat instead of white, but that’s just me.
I also really like their soups, they have the typical Thai hot and sour soup which is divine…and also a coconut soup, very spicy. And there’s this salad I like with lots of prawns, but I like the dressing on the side, because it can be a bit overwhelming the amount of dressing they add to it. It’s basically adorable, unpretentious and seems very healthy, at least the dishes I’ve tried.
We have gone to this restaurant and ordered from here a few times and the food is so good! We have been to Thailand a couple times and this food is quite authentic. The people are also very friendly and although the ambience is lacking a bit and it's a bit too bright for a romantic dinner, but it's similar to the decor in Thailand.
I am new to New Westminster and was delighted to come across the Thai Jasmine restaurant. We've been there three times and the food has been surprisingly good and very consistent - fresh, reasonable portioned and very nicely seasoned. This isn't a place to go if you are want ambience, but I highly recommend it if you are simply looking for good Thai food in a clean and simple setting.
