I love this place!

My husband and I have been coming here for about 4-5 years. The staff are always extremely friendly and say a big "HI" and "BYE". We have tried other places and always compare them to Sushi Tang. We've ordered their vegi rolls, beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, miso soup, yakitori and the California roll. We are not big "fish" eaters as you can tell...They usually send over a plate of orange slices after your meal. The price is extremely reasonable as some other places in new west charge up to a $1-3 per item more than here with less portions. Great place and we highly recommend "Sushi Tang"! BYE! lol

Our favourite sushi place in New West
By jdhammer of Surrey, BC (10 Reviews)

We moved to New West almost a year ago, and one of the first things we did was scope out food joints to see what would be come our regular haunt.

After trying a couple of places, my other half came in and told me about a little place she decided to try called Sushi Tang. She was pretty much raving about it right off the bat - She said she received great service, the sushi was really good and the prices were decent.

It's all history after that - We're regulars there, for many reasons. The quality of the sushi is great - They only use the best salmon, and while it's 1.75 per piece of nigiri at the time of this writing, it's worth the quality of the salmon they use. Other nigiri is priced on par with other places. All the fish we've had there is always great, and their rolls are of great quality with not too much rice. They also have a 1.99 spinach roll, which I'd never seen before. It's really quite good.

The people are what make this place truly great - Every time we're there they are genuinely happy to see us. They take friendliness and customer service to another level. You're greeted as soon as you get in, you get a nice, loud goodbye when you leave, and the server is always all smiles, every time.

The prices are decent - It might be slightly more than an average sushi place but their quality more than makes up for it. Given the quality, their trays are actually a steal, so if you're looking for lots of sushi go that route.

The atmosphere is nicely decorated. Yes, they tend to play loud pop music.....but I'm not there for authentic Japanese atmosphere so it doesn't bother me.

We'll be back...again and again and again......

Hello New Management!

Recently I received a beautiful flyer from this not-so-new-restaurant now under new management. Tonight my husband & I decided to give it a try for dinner. When we stepped in the door, George & Harry (featured in the flyer) and a server gave us a cheery hello. They were no less enthusiastic greeting everyone else that walked in the door after us.
I tried the "Salmon-Box", my husband the "Tuna-Box", and both of us the "Gyoza". The "Miso Soup" was one the best we ever had. Everything tasted great. Throughout our visit the staff regularly asked us how we were enjoying our meals. I really got the impression that they cared about whether or not we were happy with our food and that if we were not, they were going to make things better.
The restaurant's interior is casually bright with lovely decorations.

I just want to let you all know that Sushi Tang has changed management and is a completely new restaurant. One of the business partners told me that they have only owned it for 5 months now, so the reviews from 2009 and older are reviews about the OLD sushi tang. I never went to the old Sushi Tang, but from what the reviews are saying, it doesn't seem like it was a very good place. THIS NEW Sushi Tang is AWESOME! Only listen to the recent reviews from 2010!!!!!!!!!! Go to Sushi Tang!!!! Trust me, you won't be disappointed! The owners are soo friendly and hospitable!

Not bad overall

Went to this place for dinner, loved the prawn tempura, yam tempura was slightly undercooked, but overall is was good. The service was really nice, they do take care of you. I would say as far as ambience, I think I would change the music, really loud pop music that doesn't really suit the place and vibe. My suggestion, make your Yam tempura bigger and better, and change the music to a more relaxing feel.

This here self-described "Japanese take-out Restaurant" is jsut that, and nothing more. I was first attracted to it by its mildly salacious name, and found that it did indeed serve sushi. The food is consistently good and pretty quick too. The proprieters, two couples from what I gather, sometimes put on a floor show I can only describe as a Japanese version of the Honeymooners i.e. polite and subdued arguments and jokes in Japanese. The main attraction for me, beside the Tang, is the consistent quality of the food and its super handy location at the crossroads of Uptown New West, the centre of the Universe really. Worth a visit.

It's a Great local Sushi joint

I was just reading the reviews to this restaurant about how it's now under new management. I have been to both OLD and NEWLY run restaurants. It's still really good it's just different. I got to know the previous owners so I guess I just miss them a little but the new owners definitely care about you from the moment you walk in and take care of you while you're there.
My first experience with them was on Christmas Eve 2009. I had my daughters and we hadn't had dinner yet so they wanted Sushi. THey were open. We got VIP treatment and even got free food to boot! The kids loved it there and frequently when we have sushi, that is where they want to go.

The food is great and the staff are outstanding in customer service.

I went to Sushi Tang for a quick snack, with a friend's daughter. We decided on the 10 pieces of salmon and tuna sashimi. There are other combo meals that are better, but at the time we did not want any rolls.

The restaurant had one other table full of young people and there were two groups that were waiting for some take-out orders. Our food only took about 15 minutes to be delivered and I found the sashimi to be average. The size was great, not too big as some restaurants are doing. But I did find that the tuna sashimi was still slightly frozen in the middle of the pieces.

But otherwise, the food was decent, the service was also decent and I will definitely be back for more sushi.

I used to work across the street from Sushi Tang and would order take out for lunch there. I think they make fabulous sushi; they take into consideration the balance or taste in the rice and the filling as well as the size of the cut so it actually fits in your mouth. I also like their little black and white sesame sprinkles, it just makes everything so much more appealing. I know for a fact that my old catering job used to order sushi from Sushi Tang for our cocktail parties because they were just that good.

The service is quite good, it takes a bit to warm up to them and vice versa but if you're persistently good humored and patient, they'll eventually like you. I highly recommend Sushi Tang, it's the one place I miss out of New Westminster since I moved to Burnaby.

They aren't the best japenese take-out in the town but they sure have tasty sushi and great service! might wanna give it a try but they have very little seating so i think you should go on the weekends and take a break....try the california roll and the dynamite roll! And the tempura ....thay are so good!!!!!! but the problem is that we have to wait half and hour just for a little dynamite roll......i couldn't belive it but i think you should go to that sushi place in Royal City Centre Mall......right accross from The New Westminster Public Library.
