Okay Chinese

We have celebrated my Grandfather's birthday at Sixth on Sixth for the past few years, as they reside in New West and seem to quite enjoy it. Food was decent, portions were huge we definitely walked away with ample leftovers. As a vegetarian there weren't a ton of options, I settled on plain chow mein, the mixed vegetables and chinese mushrooms (with a side of black bean) and an eggroll. Chow mein was okay, needed soy and black bean sauce for flavor, nice mix of vegetables, eggroll was decent, nice and crisp, not too greay like they so often are. My fiance enjoyed the almond chicken, others in our group were pleased with the sweet and sour chicken and pork, fried rice and chicken chow mein. Good black bean sauce, nice and garlicky. The complementry jasmine tea is a nice touch, overall I'd consider Sixth on Sixth a decent spot for Chinese in New West, probably better as a pick-up spot as the restaurant isn't much in the way of ambiance.

Went for lunch to try this place out, after reading reviews here. It was good, but not outstanding.

Obviously a popular spot for lunch, as it was crowded. Very pleasant waitress, fast service, food reminded me a bit of "Canadian-Chinese" restaurants when I was younger. Lots of it, tasty, nothing too inspiring, very reasonable prices.

We did lunch there recently. Very popular place, it sure fills to the brim over lunch hour+. The food and preparation of same, was not anything special, but it was certainly substantial, and overall, we enjoyed our experience there.

Decent entrees, great soup!

My husband and I are frequent visitors to this restaurant. I really don't know why, but we just keep coming back!

They have great lunch specials with soup for under $7, with generous portions (you can hardly finish the whole thing). Of course it is a little greasy and some things can be overly sweet (such as the sweet & sour pork) but it's still good eats.

Our favorite item by far is the wonton noodle soup with BBQ duck. The broth is full of flavor, noodles and wontons cooked perfectly, with a generous mound of delicious duck piled on top! And all that for around $5.

The service is good, sometimes a little slow when things get busy but that's to be expected. I think it must be a family owned restaurant, because the same lady is always there to take our order. They do bring you a pot of fresh jasmine tea when you are seated, so that's always nice on a rainy day.

Ambiance leaves something to be desired, as the walls are painted 80's pastel pink, but it's not like you'd take a date here, so I don't think it matters too much.

Overall it's a great place for lunch in the 6th @ 6th area, especially if you don't want to wait around too long, because they are pretty quick with the food. Check it out sometime, we will probably be there!

gross

as a cheap but nevertheless very valid attempt to add credit to my review, I will just point out this is the overall opinion of three asians' dining experience at sixth on sixth.

it was gross. none of us finished, except myself, who was grossed out, but hungry. the chicken didn't even taste like chicken, just slippery frozen fat. I've always suspected all lowbrow chinese restaurant to have gotten their meat from the same slaughterhouse as they all look the same. but this is the worst. kitchiness and tackiness of the place itself aside, the food was just horrible. no care was put into the food, it was obvious. save your money, and go get manchu wok or some other crappy watered-down chinese food from malls. this is really demeaning.

tasteless food

My takeout order was in my opinion waste of money, the wanton soup didn't have any taste in it, even after adding tablespoons of salt to bring out the taste, the egg rolls were dripping of oil. I could even taste the brand name of the oil used to deep fry it. The bacon fried rice was no different, only the sweet and sour pork tasted good. I have a place close to my house on 5th ave and 8 st, which am gonna stick to, they are way better.

The Best Kept Secret in the Lower Mainland...

Yes! Sixth-on-Sixth Wonton House in New Westminster is the BEST kept secret in the lower mainland.

VERY good food at more than affordable prices.

Luncheon specials are your best bet - all include soup and tea - and all for under a max. of $6.00. Well worth a visit for lunch or in the evening before a movie.
