Their preservatives-free, no-trans fats & no-sugar breads are baked daily and leftovers are given to the food bank. The store has a full deli and their special item is the Monster Sandwich, which is 200 grams of meat, cheese, condiments and veggies for only $4.99.
Okay, I think we need to get something straight here. The proprietor of this establishment makes no claims at the bread or wheat-free baked goods being gluten free. There are signs in the bakery that say that the goods are not guaranteed gluten free. This is a regular bakery that creates baked goods with non-gluten containing ingredients but due to the fact that it is first and foremost a regular bakery/deli there is a risk of cross-contamination. They have never claimed otherwise and will be the first to warn you (repeatedly) that if you are likely to get sick from cross contaminated foods, don't eat it!. That being said, they have a great wheat free, potato based bread recipe, which for those of us that can get away with a risk of cross-contamination, is fantastic.
In addition they carry a selection of pre-packaged gluten free items such as cookies, pasta and sauces. They are one of the very few places I have been able to find San-J gluten free teryaki and asian BBQ sauces.
I am gluten intolerant and was thrilled to find this bakery and these reviews about this bakery. Unfortunately I didn't search further, because I would have found out that many people have made complaints about the gluten free breads not actually being gluten free. I became very ill after eating the gf bread from this bakery. For some of us, our symptoms are not immediate. They can take awhile to really present. I have been eating this bread for three weeks, so it will take some time for me to recover from the effects as well. If you are gluten intolerant, I'd think twice before eating this bread. It's not worth the risk to your health and well being.
This little deli isn't much to look at, but their sandwhiches are amazing! My boyfriend and I go here all the time and are never disappointed with what we get. The sandwhiches are giant! one is enough to fill up two people nicely, but good luck getting someone to share it with you!
I've tried their desserts a couple of times, but was disappointed, and I probably wont do so again.
If you haven't been here before, I would definitely suggest going :)
This place is interesting I always shop at the green grocer next door but ventured in here the other day. All of their desserts are $1 which is a good deal. They carry the cost-co brownies which I like & I tried a caramel cake slice which was decent. The space is not exactly inviting, they could make it more cheerful in fact I didn't know they had desserts even though I've seen this deli for years.
I am so happy to have discovered this place. They make amazing gluten free goodies, breads and buns. They also take small orders so if you want to stock up it's easy to do. They make the most amazing potato flour bread with flax or onion. Both are delicious. Buns are made on Thurs and Saturdays only. Gluten free goodies are usually available on Saturdays as well. Open Sunday. A celiacs best friend!
Hands down, the best place for a good sandwich in New West. Tons of meat and veggies piled on fresh baked bread for an excellent price. One standard sandwich can feed two. Freshly made desserts, pies, bread, & rolls for sale, plus a small selection of grocery items. Owner is diabetic, so in addition to standard offerings, he also carries a number of sugar-free products (sweets, cookies, ice cream) and makes sugar-free pies that are to die for. The atmosphere is nothing special, but it is clean. Service can be slow, since there's often only one person working, but the people who work there are very friendly and patience is rewarded with deliciousness.
