When you want a Sport's bar -- this is it.

When you want a Sport's bar -- to have a drink and a meal and see the game then this is the place. There are TV Screens everywhere -- floor to ceiling size screens. No matter where you sit you can see the game.

Servers are attentive and friendly. The food is a notch above other pubs The Martinis are a bit pricey but they make them well. They also have pool tables and other games. It is kind of a guy hang out, but the night we went there were lots of couples and several large groups of gals having a night out.

It is right next to the casino, so you can always go there after for the live music and slots.

A Cool PLace to Check Out

I held my fiances 25th birthday party at Schanks a month or so ago, which turned out to be a good night, not really thanks to the help of the staff at Schanks, more so just for its atmosphere and the number of things to checkout / do. I'd initially emailed the event coordinator of this particular location requesting a reso for 20 people, for a suprise birthday party, and requested to be contacted via email (as to not ruin the suprise) the event coordinator from the Calgary Schanks ended up phoning me and leaving a message on our home phone confirming the booking of my "Christmas Party?" Not really sure where that came from or why I'd been booked in at the Calgary location? Anyway my fiance heard the message and pretty much figured out what I was trying to plan.....didn't really appreciate their complete lack of comprehension as to what was going on. When we arrived they had a table set for maybe 12 (not 20) so we were running around the bar trying to find seats for the rest of our party. Service was painfully slow, they had one server helping all 20+ of our guests and she was often hard to find, I agree with the previous review....order two drinks at once! I personally didn't order food, but those in our group seemed to enjoy it, your typical pub fare. Schanks is all about the atmosphere, an exciting place to catch a hockey game, but I wouldn't go expecting much in the way of warm, attentive service and great food!

Waitresses are hard to find here. Order 2 at a time. Bigs screens were good and the virtual golf and mini golf set up totally fun. Kinda a scary crowd though. Didn't really feel safe on a Saturday night. Be warned there's often mega roadblocks on the way out of this casino location. it opens rightinto the casino so if you're into that it's reight there. It's not really that convenient either so I probably won't be back.

Only go for the entertainment

The first time we went to Schanks, it was during a UFC fight evening and we had to stand in line. If you paid the bouncers $10 you could get in right away. That was a bit of an unpleasant experience, but I guess it was our own fault for going during a super busy night.

The second time we went for a friend's birthday. This time there were no games or fights that evening, so the place was pretty empty. Our server was attentive and efficient, no real complaints there.

The food at Schanks can be considered slightly upscale pub food, with a more extensive selection of steaks. As for the taste: well it's alright, but nothing to rave about. Their wings are decent, rib appetizer was good, steak is mediocre for the price they charge for it, and mashed potatoes were a bit too salty. The burgers were said to be good.

What is actually attractive about Schanks is its entertainment. It's great for parties because it has a mini golf course running through it and is connected to the Starlight casino. It also has pool tables and various video games. If you're not sure about plans after dinner, this at least gives you something to do.

The Best Rec Room in the West

No need to search any further for a place to watch that all-important sporting event when you want to get away from your home - this is the place. I'll tell you how much I like watching sports at Schanks - let's say GSP ever fights Anderson Silva in Vancouver, and let's say someone invites me to go watch the fight. My response may very well be OK, but let's watch it at Schanks. Sitting there in comfort surrounded by a friendly crowd, watching the giant - and I mean giant - screen, being served decent food and drink by a sweetheart of a waitress, despite her being super-busy...sounds a whole lot better than an arena to me. As for the food, I've had the halibut salad, and the salmon salad, and both were great, and the price was right. Their basket of sweet potato fries is awesome. The menu in general shows great aspiration to be much more than just a divey sports bar, yet shows respect for the traditional sports bar comfort foods. Well done, guys.

It's about time

I use to complain all the time about living in New West and having nowhere cool to go but Schanks came to the rescue. Now it may not be that easy to get in and out of but when you are there, man is it worth it. New West is known from having grimey hole in the ground type pubs but this takes a modern clean look and drops it in our back yard. There is so much to do: golf, pool, gamble, DRINK! The food is above average for a bar and I bet there is no where better to watch an event.

That's a big TV

Wow is this place hard to find, I thought there were only farms out in that area. Walked into the biggest screen (HD I think) I've ever seen. Game had just started and could not find a seat, so sat at the bar. Got drinks and food relatively easy (food was a bit of a wait from ordering). Every goal made me go deaf but pretty fun anyway.

Good Times Not So Great Food

I love coming to the place to watch any sporting event. The TV's are everywhere and there is no bad place to sit - clear view of at least 4-5 TV's. The ambiance of this place is amazing, they have a pool table, virtual golf, an arcade and mini-golf, not to mention a huge bar.

The food is kind of weak though, there's not to expect from a place like this but I was expecting better than what I got, the wings are good but other than that everything else is barely worth the money.

I cannot complaint about the service, every time I go here each server is taking care of about 40-60 people. Its hard to find your server but I cant complaint when this place is at capacity for a UFC or Canucks fight.

Overall this is the best place to go in the GVRD to watch any sporting event. NOTHING even comes close, I will go to this place over and over again.

Boyfriends Hangout

Submitted Wednesday, August 11, 2010 - 9:38am [Dine in]

I usually hate it when I am stuck hanging out with my boyfriend and his friends watching sports at some pub. I got reeled in to watching UFC the other night with them. They chose to watch it at Schanks and it actually wasn't that bad. I was able to play a little bit of slots at the casino before we went over for dinner. The server we had was pleasant and attentive enough for serving so many people. The food took about 20 minutes and was nothing spectacular, but pretty good as far as pub fare goes. When the fights started it was actually pretty neat to be in that type of enviroment. Hundreds of people so in tune with the events on the screen, it actually made me interested in these men fighting. All in all it was one of the better nights that I got dragged out with my boyfriend and his friends.

Wow Factor

My boyfriend always tells about this place by his work and says it is the nicest bar in BC. I went there for a hockey game and I would have to somewhat agree.
My girlfriends and I went on a night where there was a boxing fight and a hockey game so we had to line up. That kind of suck seeing how everyone in the line thinks that they are more important than everyone else - there were people name dropping, trying to bribe the security and some people even yelling at the poor security guys. A manager came out and told everyone to be patient and that everyone would get in as soon as they we caught up. A little irritating!
When we finally got in, it took a little while for us to find somewhere to sit because the place is HUGH and packed. We end up sitting at a corner of the small bar in the back area so miss out the big screen but oh well. The 2 bartenders were nice and attentive even though they were run off their feet. The menu was small and the food was fair. It didn't take as long as I expected to receive the food seeing how everyone in the place was eating.
Overall, not a bad place, had a good time and it was not overly expensive.

Expect to be Impressed

This place is great. They have just about every sporting event going. TV's everywhere and one huge floor to ceiling TV. I've never been disapointed.
The staff is friendly, the food is great and the atmosphere is fun.
I had a staff party here and everyone loved the place. We had just about every appy on the menu and loved them all. No complaints about the dinner items either (the pulled pork sandwhich is amazing). The golf simulator kept everyone amused for hours and when we'd had enough of that we moved on to the pool table.

Definately no disappointment here.

Typical sports bar - not for me thank you

Typical sportsbar in Vancouver. Actually it's the worst concept period. The food is among the worst I have ever tasted. typical meatheads everywhere staring at women. Sure, go if you want to be a piece of meat. How does one do this to a hamburger? The atmosphere was not high end and the service was mediocre. I will never go back even if invited. Go if you like to watch blood sports

Good food, busy very busy game night

Submitted Sunday, March 29, 2009 - 11:34pm [Dine in]

I had the steak sandwich, and it was incredible. It was huge (10 oz) and the best steak sandwich I've ever had. But really it should be called steak with a small piece of bread on the side. It was also the best steak you can buy for $15. I forgot to get the yam fries, so I was stuck with the super thin over fried fries. There wasn't much potato left him them.

My date had philly cheese steak. I didn't try any, but it looked good.

It took us a while to flag down a waitress as it was game night. But after we got her attention, she served us well.

The Canucks game was on, so the ambiance was very high.
