Lots of MSG used which triggers migraines and headaches. If that is not a concern for you then the food is good and there is a large selection. Portions are large. The small Pho would be a large one elsewhere.
Tempura was fried very crispy, but we enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable. They also do breakfast all day, so I would go back and try breakfast. The SPCA thrift store is next door, so you could have breakfast and then hunt for treasures.
Service was friendly and quick. Ambiance is Asian diner and is bright clean and comfortable. They have free papers you can read if you're eating alone. There seem to be many people who have made it their breakfast, or lunch spot. Relax with the paper and have breakfast.
This place looks very hidden somehow - but it's a real gem!
The pho is superb - according to my bf. The hot and sour soup I got was not what I expexted, very different. FRESH! I actually loved it. The service is freakishly perfect. Refilling our drink when needed and absolutely very polite. Will returj to try more of their dishes. This is our new staple for a nice, cheap and quick meal.
Went there 2 days ago for lunch. The decor is nothing special as with every other family run restaurant. Friendly service as soon as we got into the door. We ordered their drip coffee, mine came with some coffee grind on the side of the dripper. To my surprise he apologized and bring it back in to clean it before bringing it back to me. That's why i gave it a 4 for service. Because to me coffee grinds on a coffee dripper is normal and not a big deal.
Ordered their house special pho and the special chicken pho. This is the first time that a chicken pho comes with real chicken chunks instead of turkey!! The soup is kinda sweet but still on the good side. Everything else is just your typical pho restaurant.
I will definitely go back to this restaurant because their menu's variety is just too huge to be able to judge how good this restaurant is.
I have eaten here probably 10 or 15 times. The variety is great but be ware of the MSG. The Pho is good but loaded with it. I have had several unproductive afternoons after eating this soup recently there. Way too much MSG. I have not gone back for awhile now and will try Pho Maxima as mentioned on here. If you suffer form MSG reaction I would stay away.
If you want a bowl of "OK" pho (sweet Pho) with a side eggs and sausage, and maybe wonton soup then this is the place. A bit of everything, American, Asian, Chinese, who knows what they dont sell.
Pho is ok
Burger not so good (fake cheese, frozen patty)
If you want american food go to white spot, if you want chinese go to hons, if you want vietnamese go to Pho Maxima, but if you want a bit of everything for dinner this is the place!
Prices isn't bad.
I have been craving pho and bun for ages now and stumbled across the Purple Lotus. I hadn't known that they were no longer Young's Cafe.
I was very happy to discover the change and have been having the food from there at least once a week since. They even deliver, which is nice, and the food is well worth the cost you spend. The prices are good and you definitely get a full meal.
I love the #33, a fabulous chicken bun with spring rolls. Careful though, it's addictive!
Good pho, good spring rolls, and in general, good vietnamese food. Burgers... not so good... they are OK, but they use processed cheddar cheese, which ruins a burger for me. Service is very good, frindly and prompt. Good value too. Is not the best vietnamese i've ever had, but is good enough, and fills my vietnemese fix.
