I used to pass Papa Dave's when I lived in New West, always with the intention of trying it out. Never got the chance to. Luckily, I still work close by and stopped in for lunch last week. It's not fantastic food, but for what you get and the price they offer, it's pretty outstanding. I would actually prefer to eat here than Pizza Hut or some of the other "big name" places. For only $3.99 at lunchtime, you get a very nice portion of lasagna. One could be satisfied and full for under $7.
Every time I get a pizza, its from Papa Dave's. The day I moved to New West we got a couple pizzas for our buddies who helped us out. Ever since, we've gone there. So, to be fair, I don't know all the other pizza joints in New West, but I dont need to as this one's got the pizza, the price and delivery! Pretty good pizza for a solid price. I recommend it if you're looking for regular fare and dont want to pay what the chains call fair.
Great local pizza here in the burnaby/new west area. Great service, good taste. Everyone is so friendly. Sauce has little zing to it. love it.We live in Queensborough and it is refreshing (and necessary) to have a good pizza take out place. Hot and spicy and shrimp pizzas are substantially edible.Refrigerate and bleesings! they're even Better the next day.
Based on the rave reviews below I ordered a couple of Papa Dave's pizzas. I'm afraid I was not overly impressed.
The toppings were good, but a little bit on the thin side. The crust reminded me too much of one of the chain pizza joints -- the one where the crust has too much sugar and salt in the dough and is always very greasy.
The delivery was very, very fast, and very enthusiastic and polite, so I tipped quite well -- mind you I always tip delivery drivers at least 25% if they show up on time. After all, they sure don't get paid well at all, at all.
I may order again, but overall I am not too impressed. The value was I think perhaps a little bit better than average.
I am still hoping for, shall I say, a more sophisticated, or at least more authentic pizza joint to come to New West.
I've never eaten in, so to speak, so I gave it a three middle of the road for ambience -- I didn't want to unfairly skew my overall rating downward.
In the interests of full disclosure: I do not generally like pizza other than true Italian thin crust pizza. Papa Dave's has won me over to the thicker, chewier kind that my family enjoys. I have 2 teenagers and a husband whose "desert island" food would be pizza, so I used to end up trying a lot of different kinds of pizza. I have finally tasted a type that is not greasy, not gritty from cornmeal, not bland, not skimpy on toppings and not soggy. The sauce is tasty and a touch spicy but not too hot. The pizza crust is tasty and can be held without having toppings slip off in your lap. I find Papa Dave's both tasty and decent value for my pizza dollar. Staff is great. I have gone to pick up and the folks who work there have been talkative, friendly and personable while still getting the job done efficiently. Way to go, Papa Dave's. You have a convert!
We felt like Italian tonight so instead of the big chains we tried Papa Dave's. The portions are very good -- we both have lunch for tomorrow and the garlic toast was tasty. The sauce that comes with the lasagna and spaghetti (lean meat sauce they call it) has a nice kick to it. It's a hearty sauce which is probably why we got as full as we did.
We are both happily stuffed for $20 all in. Next time we are going to try the pizza, which we know is already really good.
There is some GOOD pizza in the lower mainland. I have my fair fair of pizza and it is almost hard to find a place with bad pizza (except Dominos, bleh). Pizza Factory, Panago, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Me & Eds, little ma & pa shops, are all great. Papa Daves really blew me away though. It's a couple bucks more than your Pizza Factory, a couple bucks less than Pizza Hut, but the quality is just that good.
What really sold me was the next day I had a slice out of the fridge, tossed it in the toaster oven and thought it was still the best pizza I've had in a long long time. I just had a 3 day old slice now and it's still that good. Toppings, crust, service, a unique mild spicy tomato sauce, I will definitely make it my go-to place for a slice o pie in New West.
What a great find ...fabulous food ,great prices and the owners that care about their customers!! .Papa Dave ,wifeRaman prepared the dishes ...Lasagna with a dynamite meat saunce ,that my wife said was almost as good as what I make !!My father had the home made chilli with baked cheeze topping he is still raving about it and i had the pizza ...the crust was done to perfection with generouse portions of fresh meats and a killer cheeze finish . Three full size meals ,three beers and and a doggy bag for under $50 ...it does not get much better
Highly recomended for a casual lunch or dinner !
The pizzas are good but I was expecting great pizza with all the hype about Papa Dave's. The pasta was good as well. I will return again if i'm in the area but I prefer my usual pizza place. The service was not great. I waited quite a while at the counter before the lady took my order and in the middle of taking the order she answered the phone and had me waiting another 5 mins. In the meantime a line up formed behind me.
Hey Pizza biggies, learn how to make pizza sauce from papa Dev.
His magic recipe makes the consumer addicted to his pizzas. every other day we start to have craving for his stuff.
His pizzas are light and do not give you a stuffy feeling.
Try it, I bet u will be hooked.
Hi papa dave why dont u open more locations?
Best pizza for delivery in New West. When I called to place the order and gave my address, the woman who answered the phone asked me if I had ever ordered from them before as she didn't recognize the address. When I told her that we had never ordered from there before she said it would not be the last time and would make sure of that by sending us a great pizza. She did not disappoint. The pizza was full of toppings and had a great toasty crust. She also sent us a free sample (very large) of spaghetti, which was also very good. I would definitely recommend ordering pizza from here. I have tried most of the pizza delivery restaurants in New West and this was by far the best.
I have always enjoyed Mano's Pizza in Burnaby (Captiol Hill) from the first bit. but to my surprise one day this summer it was closed and sold, just like that Gone !! My favorite Pizza place..
It is now called Papa Dave's Pizzeria..Well the whole in the wall place is cleaned up and looks pretty good and the giant toaster oven they use for a pizza oven is not very impressive, but you get a cooked pizza. I like mine golden brown so those of you who like oily cheeze pizza will not like this toster oven pizza.
The sauce is moderate tasting and topings are better then sparce. Over-all the pizza was not bad, BUT I think all pizza should be dilivered for free not an extra charge AND that is why I will not buy there any more, I am generous tipper and that should be left to me and not another expense on top of an
all ready outragous make up of all pizza, some pizza chains worse then others.
Dave I am sure your a nice guy doing a good buisness but when we come in we can do with out being told that everytime..
Best of luck replacing the Best Tasting PIzza Place that ever was..
Mano's
Had Pepperoni and Cheese by the slice. Fresh, tasty crust, lots of spicy pepperoni, great sauce, everything in harmony. You should expect good pizza from a pizza place - goes without saying... and to my mind the best test is the humble pepperoni and cheese. I am hooked. Next test will be pizza from the regular menu.
