Located on the west side of the River Market at Westminster Quay, the Paddlewheeler features a live band Friday & Saturday nights as well as music bingo on Wednesday nights and a menu of quality pub classics.
I've eaten at the Paddelwheeler a few times over the last year. Though never disappointed I've never been wowed either. Food tends to pub standards and has been generally well prepared but with a tendency to overcooking, especially the burgers. The portions have been well sized and give solid value. Service has been somewhere between friendly and perfunctory. The place could use a facelift too.
All in all I wish they tried just a little harder, given their excellent, scenic location.
A friend and I went for lunch and ordered 3 or 4 items off their appy menu to share.
The food took forever, and then once we got it the nachos had barely any cheese and WAY too overdone. The cheese was hard and crunchy and the chips were overcooked and black at the tips. The rest of the appys were ok, but none of them were hot. Like they had been sitting on the counter for 10 minutes before they were brought out.
We where 1 of about 3 tables, so there was no reason for our food to be late and cold.
I won't be going back again.
This pub is great in the summertime. After a nice walk along the New Westsminster Quay one really deserves a nice fresh beer. The Paddlewheeler has a nice patio almost right in front of the Fraser River. It's great to hang out there with some friends for a beer. The food is typical North American and I'd rather have my steak somewhere else but yet good enough for some snacks along with your drink.
This place have a huge patio but that is about all it has going for it. The food is okay and the service is okay.(that is during the summer) In the winter time that place is dead and the live entertainment is nothing to talk about. So check this place out during the summer but be prepared for the winter dinning experience.
Note the quay is being renovated so maybe once that is all done it will bring more people to the area and boost the quality of service and entrainment..
