Good food, good prices

After hearing from family that their Dim Sum is good, we tried their dinner one evening. From the outside, it looks like another generic Chinese restaurant. One we'd usually just pass by. The place was empty on a Saturday at 6pm. As such the servers were extremely friendly and attentive, and helpful with menu items.

We ordered from the "Choose # of dishes" menu, which had a healthy 80+ items on it. The minimum is 2 dishes, and if you order more, they give complementary soya sauce duck, and/or free range chicken. They also come with soup of the day, dessert, and unlimited rice. A nice bonus was the dessert was not the generic Red Bean soup. This time it was Taro with sago soup, which was delicious.

The food was very good, did not feel greasy, and you didn't get the "I'm tasting too much MSG" feeling.

Price wise, the food is on par, or slightly cheaper than other comparable Chinese restaurants.

They have renovated the inside, and the decor is nice and clean. Surprisingly their bathrooms were reasonably clean as well.

Overall, we liked this place and will definitely return.

Wonderful Dim Sum Option

This restaurant is fairly new to its New Westminster neighborhood. That is the only reason my husband & I can think why it is not busier than it is. We visit about a couple of times a month and have never left unhappy. This past Sunday, a beautiful sunny first Sunday of Fall, we drove on the new, & continuing to be improved, 12th Street to this bright & clean restaurant, which is also easily accessible by public transit.
We enjoyed a Dim Sum breakfast consisting of "Crystal Prawn Dumplings (Har Gow)", "Pan Fried Pork with Chive Pot Stickers", "Deep Fried Sesame Seed Flour Balls", "Rice Flour Rolls with BBQ Pork", "Deep Fried Tofu with Peppery Salt", & "Noodle Soup with Beef Brisket Greens". The very attentive and friendly staff, who speak English as well as Chinese, promptly took our order and soon began delivering the items to our table. We probably ordered one dish too many for the two of us, but everything was so good, we managed to finish it. The bill was around $20.
There are plenty of empty tables and they are waiting for you!

I so wanted this to be good

I went in very soon after they opened this past summer. I really wanted this restaurant to be good. We need another good Chinese Restaurant that is authentic in New West. Enough of the old deep fried this and that, Lemon Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork Fat and dishes laced with too much MSG. New West is full of that however things are slowly changing. That is not really Chinese food.

The portion of food was fine and the dining room staff were very friendly and could have been more helpful if they did not "assume" what you may like by your nationality however they were very friendly and the service was excellent.

The food that arrived unfortunately was not very good. The pork was bland and layed there in submission. The dishes had very little life in them.

I have a reasonably educated palate in this Cuisine. None the less knowing there are usually different chefs for dinner and Dim Sum I decided to return for Dim Sum and went in twice more. I really enjoy good Dim Sum. The Dim Sum I had both times was sub-par and about the worst I have had for sometime.

Dim Sum is about the flavours created by the chef. Good ingredients and the sauces and steam. There was steam but that was about it. I really had hoped this was going to be a local favourite restaurant. After 3 attempts I have called it quits for Lucky king. Perhaps this would explain why it is always so empty.

Too bad as this could be a real money maker with the right ingredients and a real asset to the neighbourhood in this location.

Excellent Food

My husband and i recently moved back to New West. I cruised the Web looking for a decent Cantonese restaurant. The local restaurants that we used to frequent were receiving passable reviews. I found a review of this restaurant and we decided to try it. We ate there last evening, and it was excellent! The food was fresh and excellent quality, the service was attentive but not invasive, and it was great value. We definately will frequent this restaurant again, and i recommend it!

The best Chinese I've ever eaten

We were looking for another restaurant when we went to Lucky King and we are very glad that we tried it out. The wonton soup was amazing as were the honey garlic spareribs. The other dishes were also very good. I am from the prairies and don't often find authentic Chinese food but this was the best I've ever had and my local hosts felt the same way.
