This review might be a bit unfair because I went here for a Christmas party for over 20 people and we were sat upstairs. Our reservation was for 8pm and it took a while for us to be sat down, but they came around with little finger food to tide us over with the late reservation.

The service was a good as can be for the amount of people in the Christmas party. Drinks took a while to come out and so did the appys. We got our order in quick for the mains because we wanted to have them served at an appropriate time.

All in all the servers did a good job. I ordered steak and lobster, the steak was done medium rare and was great. The twice baked potato was also nice and fluffy. My lobster was so so, but that's because the butter was cold that they brought out to dip in and they had put a huge amount of seasoning salt on the lobster... really salty.

I gave it a solid 3 all around, I've been to other Keg locations that have wow'd me and have horrified me. They are somewhere in the middle. I still prefer other steakhouses to the Keg though.

I moved to New Westminster about a year ago, and it so happened that the Keg was conveniently within walking distance for me.

On my first visit, I dined by myself. Ordered my steak medium, and was served rare, so I showed the waiter and asked for it to be corrected. 20 minutes later, my plate comes back. The steak definately looked chared from the outside, but once I cut into it, the blood just oozed out of it. I'm somewhat upset at this point because I've being sitting at the table by myself twiddling my thumbs just to watch people be seated after me and then leave before I actually get to eat. 20 minutes later, again my plate comes back. The steak was not meduim done, it was overdone and dry. I left the steak, and ate the veggies and potatoe. On the positive side, the manager did come by and appologize, and complimented the dinner.

Now, with living so close, I eventually gave this location another try... thinking that my previous poor dining experiencce might have just been something that doesn't happen too often. I was wrong. Pretty much the same thing happened. I did say to the manager that given this is a steakhouse, the cooks should know how to cook a steak properly. To have the same problem happen in two consecutive visits suggest that the kids in this kitchen don't put alot of care in what they are sending out.

The look of the place was nice.... liked it. I can't blame my poor experience on the waiter as they were quite attentive and somewhat embarrased as to the quality of food that came out of the kitchen.

Given the prices on the menu, management needs to ensure that the quality of food coming out of the kitchen is good value. My impression in seeing the cooks at work in the kitchen was not very good... playing practical jokes on eachother... it was like there was a party going on in the kitchen. It did not look like there was any head-chef that was checking the quality of food that was being sent out.

My recommendation to anyone who wants an awesome steak dinner... skip the Keg altogether, spend the extra 10 or 15 bucks per plate, and go to Hy's Steakhouse in downtown Vancouver. You won't regret it.

Food: Absolutely amazing. Had the crab, artichoke and spinach dip and it tasted awesome and the chips it came with were not just store bought but seemed like they were made at the restaurant - very yummy. I had the chicken and seafood newberg which tasted amazing and the mashed potatoes it came with was great. My bf had the new york peppercorn steak and he loved his dish. Overall awesome food experience.

Service: We were greeted right away and shown a table immediately. It took a long time for the server to come around to take our drink orders and normally I would be upset for the rest of the night about the service but it turned out to be not so bad. Only had to ask for water once and the rest of the time, he was on the ball.

Ambiance: Horrible, horrible and horrible. They were playing reggae music but the restaurant is built around the "old New West" feel with the black and white pics of the city from the 30s and the wooden planks for walls. Their ceiling looked like it had leaked at some point but they didn't bother to cover up the ugly brown stains. Wiring can be seen all along the walls. They also have this hideous green and red lighting throughout the dining area that really bothered me. We had a red light above our table and I couldn't see my food properly and to be honest, it just bugged the hell outta me. They really need to renovate the joint.

I love the ambiance of this location. The food and service is consistant with the other locations, but what really sets this location apart from the others is that it used to be an old train station stop turned The Keg. It was part of the buildings destroyed by the Great Fire of 1898, and was re-built in 1899. Rumours have spirits still live in the basement and at night, workers can hear them call their name! A lot of history from Vancouver's oldest city in this little building.

Out of all of the Kegs I've been too over the years, I'd have to say that this location is definitely the COLDEST! To be fair, however, I visited this one in the dead of winter on one of the coldest nights of the year, but I had to wear my winter coat the entire time I was there. I think the heat must have conked out because most of the people around me were also wearing their coats. Otherwise, the food was decent and the service was as good as it always is at any Keg location. I think because the restaurant is located within the old train station, it's really drafty, probably almost year-round. But overall, a decent visit - next time, I'll just order a coffee to keep my hands warm!

We went on a Tuesday night with my wife and started with a couple of their appies. The wine arrived around the same time. The steaks were plump and tasty. My wife had the sirloin which she said melted in her mouth, and the fries were a nice accompaniment. She really enjoyed the dish.I choose the rib eye and it was an awesome steak, really meaty and smoky in flavour. We were too stuffed to try any desserts, but we'll be back. They need to accept reservations and hire some leggy waitresses. many other restaurants have done so and Keg is falling behind.

Went for a birthday dinner on Aug. 7th and we were VERY happy with our meals! My friend had prime rib and I had the sirloin with lobster, shrimp and asparagus. We both LOVED our meals! My ceasar drink was just so-so, my friend enjoyed her wine. The beef was cooked to order and service was efficient. We were seated on the second floor and it is unappealing at best. Serious renos would help. Good thing I didn't read all the previous bad reviews or I prob wouldn't have had one of my best meals ever. We will go back for the food!

I also reviewed this Keg on their website and they responded with a gift card... So we gave it another shot... This time I brought my girlfriend and her parents down...

They were busy, but the service was excellent, the wine was re-poured, and they offered some specials etc.

I wasn't happy with the king crab portions being inconsistent or the cut of the prime rib last time... But this time I ordered the Filet Chicago style (charred outside, rare inside) with King crab (not on the menu but as an add on) and they were outstanding...

We asked to sit downstairs as the upstairs bathrooms are horrible (as I emphasized in my other review) but we discovered that the upstairs bathrooms are the only bathrooms... so they really need improvement... They are gross...

So to be fair they were better the second time, but the bathrooms are still in urgent need of renovations...

It doesn't even feel like the keg!!!! maybe i'm getting used to their nicest one on willingdon... went with friends recently, and my stake was overcooked, there were flies hovering over our dingy table on the very dark and stuffy second floor, the server never removed the menues (we had to remove them ourselves) as well as the dirty dishes; the table was really small for a group of 10, and we needed room! parking around the area is really bad. I would absolutely never go back in there, is just not worth it. If i could rate 0 for value, I would do it.

Last night my boyfriend and I went to the Keg in New West for dinner. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We had the Baked Garlic Shrimp appy which was excellent. I had the Sirloin Classic Dinner, and my boyfriend had the Steak and 1/2 Lobster of their feature menu. It was excellent. My only complaint is not about the food or the service, but the building itself. I know it's a very old building, but could they please put another bathroom in there?! They're all the way at the top of the restaurant in a small, stuffy room. Overall, great time, excellent service, and delicious food.
