Go Thai is a reasonably priced, spicy Thai food hidden in a large former donut shop. For vegs, seems that anything can be had with tofu. Homemade pies.
It's not like your typical authentic, fine-dining style restaurant but it's not a junk food type of restaurant either! It's just the typical restaurant you'd find if you travel to Asia and dine at a casual restaurant (of 3-star quality). What's Thai restaurant without some Pad Thai? Their Pad Thai is typical Southern Thai Pad Thai, with an extra shot of sweetness and colour compared to other Pad Thais here. It might not suit your palate though.. However, they have the best Pad See Ew! It's fried rice noodle with beef and vegs. If you eat spicy, order it medium mild. It blows minds. Their friend wontons are just like the ones you'd find in Asia. And if you eat curry, their curry has so much flavour, I almost thought I was back traveling in Southeast Asia! For the drink, don't ask for water, instead try their Thai Iced Tea or if you like your coffee black, try their Thai Iced Coffee. Again, it's not like any other Iced Coffee I've tried here, it has its own Thai-ness to it, it's unbelievable. I've been there a lot of times and their Pad See Ew never fails to satisfy me. I'm not a big fan of Pad Thai and I don't usually eat Pad Thai but for some reasons, I always have Pad Thai to go at the end of the day. As for the price, you will NOT pay fine-dining prices but DON'T expect junk food price either. It's authentic at its best with reasonable price.
Based on where it's located, run as a mom and pop business, I think it's a really good find. Quick service to the door or to the table, and a friendly attitude. Not the longest menu, but it satisfies the Thai food urge we get often. Portions are Asian size not North American, so order appetizers and coconut rice to fill in the gaps.
Very tasty and delightful.
This neat, clean and attractive neighborhood restaurant keeps me coming back for very tasty Thai meals full of flavour and made with care in the open kitchen - usually by the person I take to be one of the owners. I have eaten here perhaps 30 times now and have probably tried most things on the menu. I enjoy the red curry chicken, the Tom Yum Gai, green papaya salad, and more but the mango sticky rice (in season) is my favourite of all. I find two people can dine in the evening and take home a decent quantity of leftovers for $40 all in. As mentioned in other reviews, this is not a white tablecoth experience, but it is what it is and does an exemplary job at its price point. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area and in the mood.
Had a quiet Monday evening dinner. Basic furnishings, just a regular neighbourhood joint. Had the Pad Thai and Pad Phed and some jasmine rice. Fairly decent in quality and the price was ok for good-sized portions. I've had better Pad Thai elsewhere but in general the food was okay. I'm not sure if I'd return for the same dishes but maybe to try something different next time.
Went there on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy. The ambiance isn't the greatest (a former doughnut shop afterall) however the food was quite delicious. My friend and I ordered matsaman curry with tofu and the pad spinach. Both very tasty. We had coconut rice to go with it, which I'd never had and it was yummy. I'll be back!
Attentive server and the food came fast, within a few minutes! Server suggested hot sauce and brought it before we could even ask. Food was a fair price with lots left for lunch tomorrow. Bathrooms were nice and clean. Pretty busy with what seems like return customers. Definitely will eat here again. Was tempted to try deep fried ice cream desert with blue berries and strawberries but we were too stuffed!
Our family has travelled to Thailand and we've known the owner since she first opened the restaurant and offered cooking classes. We noted that she ordered a lot of the spices directly from Thailand. Since moving, we've tried to find another restaurant that matches the richness of the flavors that are offered at Go Thai. We have not been successful in our search, despite numerous trials at other restaurants. A particular favorite of ours is the Masaman Curry. Although the decor is fairly simplistic and there is no glitz or glamour, if the primary purpose of going is to savor some truely authentic thai dishes, then you won't be disappointed!
We, being a frequent customer to Go Thai, were there again last night. It wasnt extremely good but it wasnt bad. we had a few dishes and skipped drinks and dessert, it is betetr than, chinese, punjabi as well as indian dishes . Not too expensive and adequate for a wife visit the waitresses nothing special to look at but effiienct. The curry can be ordered to suit the taste buds.
I finally tried this place after reading all the reviews. First let me say that the food is very good, and as close to authentic as i think you can get in vancouver. My wife is Thai and even she said , (save a few variations) that it was good. The delivery guy even went out of his way to go out of bounds for us. All that said, i still was angry enough to create an account and make this posting, which i never do. I ordered $130 worth of food , thinking it way more then enough to feed 4 people. When it arrived , EVERY dish i ordered was 9/10 lettuce on the bottom with maybe, maybe 4 tbs of actual food. The sum tum was not even enough to have a sample for all 4 of us. It was absolutely the worst portions i have ever seen. Sure the price seems fine until you open the lid and look. I have never been in the resturant , but i hope to hell it is better sizes then what we received. Very sad i will never order from there again because the food was very tasty ( what little amounts hit our tongues). In total we ordered 11 dishes. That should leave you satisfied and maybe a few bites the next day. So if you feel you have a few hundred dollars kicking around , go and order from there, dont worry you wont be full so you can still make your inlaws dinner at 5pm.
We order from here all the time and the food is great.
Yummy and always delivered on time. Sometimes we eat in, food is wonderful.
Spring roll and any of the curry's are all delicious.
We've been eating from here since Jan 2009 to date and its always been great food for great prices.
pretty good..but waaaayy too much sodium. meaing too much salt, in all 4 dishes I ordered.
I took this one out, so can't rate the service. Most importantly, the food was good, but tasted more like Chinese and not Thai. Way too much salt, gave me a headache. Alright for the price, if you're not wanting to be too impressed by the lack of authenticity.
This has been a lifesaver in this area, as all the other thai places have been failing miserably.
Most of my coworkers at the hospital and myself would agree you cannot beat their lunch specials and the veggie dishes.
The yellow curry extra hot is my favorite and their spring rolls are great!!
The restaurant is rather small as it use to be a donut shop but it always smells great and you can see your food being cooked right there and it usually only takes a few mins.
I live 3 minites away from GoThai, it has been my favourate take out place recently, twice a week mostly so i have tried almost everything from the menu, red curry's been my all time favourate:) reasonable price with reasonable portion. I don't really know about the service, but of the three times i dine in there, the server's been pretty friendly and attentive. Almost no ambiance however
Some of the best Thai food in the lower mainland--not that I'm an expert (although I've eaten at many).. And iin a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. I've been going there regularly since it opened, and my favorite dishes are: (1) Red Curry--with a unique, anise or fennel flavour. (2) Rice Soup: I keep craving more of that fresh ginger and garlic mix. (3) Spinach with garlic sauce. Wow! Too small as a meal on it's own, but I just love the smoky tasting beans they use in it. (4) The other 3 currys--Green (when it's not too oily), Yellow, and Matsoman are out of sight. Good spring rolls too. And the chicken soup they serve with the combination dishes tastes almost....Jewish.
A great place for Thai food! We've never eaten in at the restaurant, but we order delivery all the time. The food is awesome and it is usually at our door within a half an hour. The Phad Pring King is exceptional!
I've been back numerous times to Go Thai and have fallen under the spell of several of their dishes. Th matsaman curry is my all time favourite but the yellow curry comes a close second. Accompanied by a green papaya salad (in an exquisite chili/lime dressing), and some crispy spring rolls- truly yummy!
Wow, who could have beleived you'd get great Thai food in this place that looked like this? The building is an old donut shop, and has even less ambiance than the local Timmys, but hey, we're here for the food.
Had a nice Coconut/Yam curry along with stir fried veggies. Very very good.
Next time, I'll opt for the free delivery
My friends and I always go to this restaurant on weekend..10-15 people occupied the restaurant...honestly, the service is very very excellent. the waiter is very friendly and polite. The food, hmm, the green, red curry is my favourite, they are extremely good. Price range? affordable for students like us..the only thing, the portion is a little small...you should make it a little larger ebcause they are too good. The ambiance? not too good with the decoration..but who cares...im counting on the food..keep it up
