Award-winning pub located in the Queensborough area of New Westminster. This upscale pub has one of the busiest lunches in town due to great food and excellent service. The interior is characterized by high ceilings and lots of wood, and there is also a patio.
I was heading home in Queensborough and thought it would be nice to not cook and catch the end of the hockey game. i had not even had a chance to take my jacket off and sit down before the drink that I ordered was on the table. I quickly decided on the special of 2 Halibut and fries and sat down to enjoy some food, drink and hockey. Jason was quick to find the next game once the first one ended. I appreciate the service and the atmosphere at Frankie G's, I don't get there too often but when I do I think I should have been back sooner. Try it you will like it.
Recently ate here with my girlfriend on a thursday evening, and left with little to be desired. The food was lame, the music was lame, the atmosphere was...well, you get the idea. The servers spent half the time chatting to each other, and we waited for 30 minutes for our food to come. But before that our appetizers of 'riblets' looked as unappetizing as they tasted; like little turd formations. The appearance of this pub could have potential if it was kept up, which is clearly wasn't.
Hands down, won't be returning in this life time.
Frankie G's has the Best Clubhouse sandwich in town and the staff are really great too!
Their piled high clubhouse has this great sauce on it, not sure what it is, but it tastes amazing.
I'm always full and always satisfied.... If you feel like indulging grab a gravy for your fries, very yummy.
Thanks Frankie G's.
...and not stopped. As previous reviewers mentioned, it doesn't look promising from the outside. We stopped in for lunch.
We were there early, and had our choice of seats. Nice looking place inside, with several levels and areas and a sunny deck outside. The washrooms were impeccable, and that's saying something for a pub!
Drinks came quickly, food orders taken. Hubby had a salmon burger with wasabi mayo, caesar salad on the side. I went for the benchmark steak sandwich with fries, cooked rare please.
Salmon burger was huge and tasty, caesar salad was quite good. My poor steak sandwich wasn't quite as much of a success. Such a thin, thin piece of meat cannot possibly be cooked "rare", and it was quite well done. Fries were hot and fresh, onion rings were really good.
Service was excellent, fast and friendly. I can see this place becoming a neighbourhood hangout when the area finishes redeveloping. Quite pleasant.
For some strange reason, I always thought Frankie G's was closer to Walmart. I was wrong. I came here with some coworkers last week for lunch, and had to drive past the slums of .
Yes the area is slowly developing, but it still felt like such a shady area. I agree with the previous reviewer, this pub is out of the way as there is nothing else close by. However, on the plus side, if you're suffering from major traffic jams on the Queensborough, it is a great place to stop and wait for the jam to pass. They have great specials from 4-7pm for that reason.
All the entrees come with choice of soup, salad or fries. I had salad with my butter chicken panini sandwich. The side salad was quite large and my "half" order of panini was large enough to satisfy anyone. The butter chicken had a nice kick to it. Very tasty.
Again I have to agree with the pop re-fill comment. This pub does not offer free refills. Instead, they will ask you, "Would you like more pop?" To me, this is a trick question - they should definitely tell you if the refill is not free. What pub charges over $2 for pop and doesn't offer free refills??
The ambiance was neat, a lot of old pics from the past and some old locomotive decor. The restaurant has a cabin/barn look to it and most the chairs are comfy. Washrooms were okay, but it was hard to open/close the stall doors without your legs brushing against the toilets.
We thought they would be more of a restaurant. You know, food, comfortable seats and a chance to catch up. Instead it was just your typical dive bar. Pool, darts, pitchers of beer, lame group of guys trying to insult you without knowing it (at least I hope they dont know how insulting they are). They do have a food menu but it is not that rich. Oh, and beware of the creepy businessmen with the power suits. Um, excuse me, "do I know you?" Gross.
We went there a few times and lately the specials have been quite delicious. We were surprised to see French style Rack of Lamb, it was amazingly well prepared. The presentation on the plate was well done. My friend tried the lobster with vegetables, it was very flavorful and the portion was reasonable. The food has greatly improved from before and the service was impecible also. We definitly recomend that you go and try the daily special.
This pub surprised me with how good their food is. The portion is pretty big too. Chicken wings are pretty darn good also. Had their pasta and let me tell you that for a pub, their pasta are better than some italian restaurant.
The service is quite good. Nothing special but nothing bad. The prices are cheap compared to restaurants. Overall this is one of the better pub for food. Definitely going back.
Food is pretty much basic pub grub, but its well made and presented and tasty. The taps are nothing special, the service is a little lacking, and the overall ambiance is great. It can be more than a little noisy when the Canucks are playing, but on non-game nights its a relaxing enjoyable place.
I've been going to the pub since the early 2000s and I have to say that its great! Not only is it good to have a clean quality establishment in the community...the food is excellent! Being a women, I'm happy that the washrooms are always clean and customers are of a good crowd. When I'm out with a group of women, I never feel intimidated here.
When I don't feel like cooking, Frankie is there to save the day! This is not your regular pub food, that is for sure. Of course you have your typical burgers & fries, but then you have a huge diverse menu of entrees. The evening menu & atmosphere is great! The lights are dimmed, candles on the table, its our big night out! :)
As for my favorites: (1) CRACK PEPPER wings, I have NOT ever eaten wings this big anywhere they are HUGE!. (2) Fresh halibut Fish & Chips, excellent!! (3) Pasta Tuesday/Sundays kick the other local establishments butt! The price is good, because the dishes are huge, no way you can finish and the sauces are so rich in flavor...mmmmm! TORDELLINI PASTA is a must! They have a new chef and he's changed the menu to kick it up a notch. It has been a great change!
My husband works on Annacis Island, so he and his workers visit Frankie's at lunch quite often. He always says that service is consistent, quick & friendly even when its their busiest time. He often has business meetings there over lunch since they got free wireless internet! I'm not into sports, but he loves his TV, so he likes that all the Pay Per View events are available. I love this place and its so close to home!
Layout and decour is better than avg - lots of photos, marine theme, vaulted ceiling, big screens, pool table sometimes, probably has darts somewhere, structured to accomodate lrg groups. Property is clean, parking is fine.
The food is definately above average pub style. Menu is respectable with a good selection, but I'm usually not keen on being adventurous at this establishment. The servers come and go like the wind - high turnover. Usually are mediocre on a good day. The attire chosen by some of the girls is somewhat dicey - not my style.
This is another establishment that seems it should be one or two notches better than what it presents. The new housing in the area is not cheap 1/2 million dollars +++ and so they should (re)consider what demographic is in the immediate vicinity.
I hope they can pick up their game.
Having lived in the area for many years I have eaten here more times than I can count. The pub itself is well laid out with a couple of fireplaces, a large bar, outdoor patio and enough riverfront decor to make it interesting as well as comfortable. There are two large screens and a handful of smaller flat screen tv's to make viewing easy from any seat in the house. This makes it the perfect place to watch the game with a cold beer and a basket of wings. You can be sure that the house is packed whenever there's a big game on. Unfortunately that is where the fun ends, the menu has been recently updated but the only real change seems to be an increase in prices. The menu has decent variety but the food preparation is not anything special. I would describe most of the food as just average. The pizza is not good, anything requiring more preparation than deep frying is slapped together. You get the feeling that the cook really doesn't enjoy their job. There is no attention to detail, wilted vegetables on your burger or in the salad are not uncommon. Any special requests are met with attitude and often ignored. I often get the impression that I am bothering these people by stopping in to spend some money. That leads to the servers, there is a revolving door of wait staff and for the most part they are trained well enough to bring what you order but they don't seem to be enjoying themselves either. I have never had the experience here of having someone take my order that was pleasant to talk to, or had them bring me what I ordered without me wishing that I'd gone to the greek restaurant down the street or made it myself at home. Why do I come here? It feels like a pub, there's a tv, they have beer and I can walk home. If you are looking for more than that try across the river at the Paddlewheeler or River's reach. They both have a fun atmosphere, drink and dinner specials and fun stuff during the game too. That's really what I want Frankie G's to be, a fun place to spend an evening with friends. Unfortunately it is not headed in that direction. Should you make the mistake of staying past 11 you will also get the Frankie G's version of the bum's rush where they crank up bad pop music until you give up conversation and go home.
I've been a repeat customer of Frankie G's for the last couple of
years. It's always beenreally relaxed environment with a great dining
atmosphere. ( the dynamic is of course effected by pub related events,
what pub isn't?) Being that I am a sports fan, I am really pleased
with the big screens they've recently added. Somehow this beautiful
cozy pub maintains its feeling of comfort even with the game on and
the speakers turned up. And if you are attempting to watch the game
in the area, in my opinion its a much better alternative to the other
options, where either the place is entirely packed, or the food is
sub par, and your waiting ten minutes to figure out who your server
is, never mind actually having your beer in front of you. It is of
course a little out of the way, but most jewels are!!! There is
something to be said about servers who remember you when you walk in
the door, great food!
We found the pub to be very loud with televisions and the crowd fighting themselves. Very little comforatable seating, mostly 3' rounds with stools. Caters to the 20's age group, if that is what you're looking for. The food was good but only affordable with the 2 for 1 coupon.
I recently went to the Pub, my friend had speghetti with meatballs. She went on and on about how great the food was, it was better than some of the fine dining Italian restaurants. The presentation was unbeleveably stunning for a pub. They must have some great chef come in because I haven't seen this before when I came in a few month ago. I had salmon it was full of flavor and it was perfectly prepared. The service was great I would recomend this to my friends. The price was so reasonable that I would go again for lunch.
We went to this pub on a saturday night , my wife and i had looked forward to having a good meal on our night away from the children , after parking in the very small empty parking lot ,noticed how poorly maintained the property looked and the condition of the dangerous looking stairs to the front doors where in .the food was typical of the venue and service was terrible , place was empty and still servers spent more time talking amongst themselves than actually looking after the 5 or so customers that where in there .Prices were way to high as well for the quality of the meal , kinda like eating dennys type food for twice the price
As soon as I walked into this out of the way, pub i was greated happily by a server and seated. Not only was the decor rustic and homey feeling, everyone was so kind and talkative. The obvious regulars were at the bar chatting away with the bartender and our server got straight to us although she seemed quite busy with other tables. I ordered the club sandwich and my boyfriend had the hawiian burger. With so many options to customize your meal to your liking it was delicious. Meals had a choice of fries, soup, or salad. As well my boyfriend had the option of a loaded burger. Can't wait to go back, this bar has a definate cheers type feeling, everyone is so friendly and willing to help. Loved it.
Although it is necessary to follow the signs to get to frankie's, once you find it you will not be disappointed.. People come from all areas of canada and the usa to relax and enjoy the incredible service and food at this nautical theme pub. I have been to this pub several times and quite enjoy many different meals. Their menu is quite diverse, different from the common pub food although you will of course find tasty wings and nachos. Some of my favourites include the fisherman's salad, the steak sandwich, tortellini a la panne pasta, the lamb shank, and the prime rib (which is on special quite often). One of my favourite specials is on thursday when they have two can dine for 45$. You get appies, entrees and a bottle of wine for $45!! What a great deal! Perfect for a quiet evening out with your hunny. The service is quick and friendly, and i recommend this pub to everyone.
Good pub food, sizable portions. A little higher priced than the usual pub fare. Service was definatly lacking and a word for the wise, when the waitress asks if you would like more pepsi (ie:if you're a designated driver or not a big drinker like me) there is a charge!! When asked if I would like more I said "sure if it's free" and the look on the waitress face was priceless, she said no it wasn't. She obviously wasn't expecting someone to "call" her on her snaky wording. I've been ripped off before I mean seriously how much does a pop re-fill cost!!! I personally don't favor pubs for dining because if you don't order alcoholic drinks they treat you like you have the plague or something, as if non alcoholics don't tip or something...and unfortunalty this waitress gave off the same vibe yet on the other side of the bar the other waitress had a different attitude (maybe her patrons were buying alcohol) Overall not a bad place nice to try a new place, only downfall was the staff.
