Could be SO much better!

Go to Couzies's Cafe regularly and it's very hit and miss.

Service: VERY POOR! The staff is super rude. Their customer service skills leave something to be desired. They are very reluctant to help their customers. It's almost like we are doing THEM a favor by ordering at the Cafe!

Food: Some days the food is amazing other days .. just average. It is quite pricey so you would think the quality would be consistent. They have recently started to water down their soup. It used to be thick and delicious. It's still good, but if I wanted to water my soup down, I would add water to it! I've never received a full portion of soup. It's always 3/4's to the top. I've had to go a size up just to get enough for lunch!

Why I go back: The food is good and it's close to work. However, I think once the dragon palace opens I will not return.

PS. The Cafe smells terrible. If you spend more than a minute there, your clothes will smell of greasy food.

I used to live in the area and Couzie's was one of my favorite secret spots, as it's tucked away on a quieter street. I recently had an appointment in the area and stopped off here for breakfast. Nothing's changed if anything this place is better! Tasty, healthy, fresh food served by cheerful, helpful staff.

It attracts a good clientele, everyone's nice, it's the type of place where strangers will say hello to you and not in a creepy way but in a friendly neighbourly way.

The food is solid, I always customize my order's and they always get it right.

I really love their breakfasts. I usually have the breakfast with eggs/sausage etc. and add a slice of french toast topped with fresh fruit salad as a side.

It's not that the food is the very best here, most things are delicious but overall other factor's beside the food make this place one of my favorites. The staff are well-trained to deal with the lunch hour rush, and they deal with changes to dishes without getting irritated. The place just has good positive energy.

My b/f and I went to go here for breakfast Saturday morning as we often do, only to find a closed for business sign. What? It's unfortunate to lose a good breakfast place in New West, especially when they have AMAZING cinnamon buns.
The staff were always friendly, the coffee was good and the food was yummy. The ambience was a little blah, but hey it's just breakfast. I'm really sad to see this place out of business.
The search for good breakfast continues....

Wouldn't go back

We went to this little cafe for Saturday brunch as a friend had recommended it but were perhaps overly disappointed since we had high expectations.

Food:
I had the Eggs Benedict ($7.95) and my wife had Couzie's Breakfast (2 eggs, 4 sausages, hash browns @ $5.95). Both I could have done better at home. Quality of food doesn't match the prices... you could get the same from Bon's Off Broadway but for much less.

Service:
Cafeteria style; order first and seat yourselves which is fine for us. Food took close to 20 minutes which is long for breakfast food.

Value:
For the quality of food and type of place this is, prices are way too high. There's the Waffle House around the corner which offers similar fair but at better prices.

Ambiance:
The one thing that stood out about this place is the heavy sausage/bacon grease smell that permeates. You really notice it after you leave and all your clothes and hair continue to smell like it... Either there's not enough ventilation or they're not cleaning their grease traps.

First time there, won't be back.

good homemade food!

I live in New West and often frequent Couzies for a good homemade breakfast and a great brewed cup of coffee!! They have good salads and homecooked soups! The baked goods are the best! I like to stop in while I do errands...have a gormet grilled panini. I sometimes take the Hot meals to go if I have no time to cook that evening!! They even send it in a heatable container, The cafe itself is quaint and nestled in a uptown aptmosphere, the staff is very sweet and attentive to the customers needs!! They even know some regulars customers by name. Would reccomend it anyone.

Best place in New West!

This is absolutely my favorite place to eat in New Westminster. The coffee & gourmet panini sandwiches are delicious (buffalo chicken, tandoori chicken, breakfast egg & bacon, and more, all served on fantastic herbed bread). Also good are their eggs benedict, muffins, soup, and other dishes, and everything is well-priced. The staff is very nice, friendly and competent. The only downside is that it's a little small, so occasionally it's hard to find a table, and they close mid-afternoon on most days. Otherwise, it's perfect!

The Best in New West

Having just moved away from New Westminster, I completely miss Couzies! The panani's were so good and the pasta salads were homemade fresh everyday, along with the soup.

Really, really miss the place and the friendly staff. Wish we had one here!

I totally recommend stopping in for lunch, it is not open for dinner (yet) and for a cup of coffee to sit back and people watch out of one of the big windows. A hidden gem...
